Blocky, Welcome and congratulations for starting on your journey so early in life. That's fantastic. Never stop learning. The fact that you are watching my stuff and taking design courses already tells me you are going to be a great success! Keep it up, and keep watching.
Thank you so much. I wish I had known this 10 years and it’s quite frustrating university didn’t give us any wider information about income. When I graduated, I was going to job interviews where they were interviewing over 100 people for one post.
Philip VanDusen I mean with that how to take the money all at once or half in start and the rest when I finish and if they want to edit anything should I take extra money for that?
Good idea for a video: lots to talk about with that. Just for a quick bit of info for you: I generally charge a 50% deposit (some people do 25%) and if they cancel the project for any reason that deposit is not refundable. I have a contract that lays all that out that they sign before I do anything. I generally price in 2 rounds of revisions. After that - in the contract- is says extra rounds will be priced separately.
Thank you so much sir Philip. I learned a lot from your video. I am still a newbie graphic designer on Upwork but this video is really a big help. Thank you for sharing sir😃
I feel like at least half of this list are the ways Graphic Design is less in demand. I'm having a hard time finding a job in graphic design as most postings want more then just graphic design such as social media coordinator, web designer, front end developer or they want a specialization in graphic design. I feel I'm a well rounded designer and somehow that's a negative thing as a jack of all trades made me a trade of nothing. I appreciate the video though and will start trying some of your tips. Thank you!
Gurjot Singh, Thanks so much!~ Can you do me a favor as a small thank you? Please share my video with a friend or two! I'm trying to build my subscribers. More to come!

Hey! Your videos are amazing! I have just learnt graphic designing, like the basic 4 softwares, can u please suggest me how to move forward in this profession as a begineer?
Get an education in design -at university, community college or online courses. You can learn programs, but you have to learn the fundamentals of composition, color, theory, marketing and branding also.
1Eleonorka, Thanks so much!~ Can you do me a favor as a small thank you? Please share my video with a friend or two! I'm trying to build my subscribers. More to come!
I'm 15 who have the talent. I got an account from a website where people post projects and designers just submit their designs and that person choose the best among the rest. I've almost won once but I've got no credit card nor a PayPal account (cause I'm still not 18) to accept the money. But I do really want to do something like this. I'm enjoying it. Please give me any suggestions🙏 for this young age and lack of professionalism.
Hello Philip, great video, I want a peice of advice from you, I have around 30 design templates including flyer, brochure and logo. I was thinking to sell them on my own website, I already build one and thinking to sell them free of cost, I will monetise the web pages later. OR I should sell through stock site like envanto/creativemarket?? as they will license my work? What are your suggestions? Thank you :)
Do 3 things. No reason to do just one. First, use them as a Lead magnet as a free giveaway if people sign up to your email list - a pop-up on your website after-which they get a link to download the free files. (you can make this a "free limited offer' with a time limit to drive action by enforcing "scarcity" - and you can then charge $ for it after the promotion. You can also periodically bring it back for a limited time for a free download - but always promoting it heavily when you do - and then go back to paid again) - Second, yes, sell them on Envato/Creative market. Third, create more templates over time and organize then in "collections" as evergreen content/product on your site - for sale. No reason to have an either/or solution.
Fiverr is a rip-off and even though I mentioned it in this video I don't recommend it. You have to get out and meet people - businesses - at conferences - in person - that's the best business development method there is.
The fiverr market is saturated with a lot of talented designers from India and other less developed countries - who are willing to work for very cheap rates - as in their countries this is a good wage. It's very hard to compete against them.
Can you make a video about which the best applications (in computer) for illustrating any trends (in 2018 such as how to make liquid text..how to make colour channel..etc.) in building the graphic design lay out? Thank you.
ivanella zuhdi, Thanks for watching! I'm sorry, but I don't really do tutorials on my channel. But there are alot of software tutorial channels out there on YT, just do a search and you'll find some great ones! Good luck in your design career!
Hi! Sir, I'm facing a very big problem here, "as you said you can just upload your designs and that would help you to earn money as a designer... And there is one problem as how could my design by identified by the buyers what could I do? And what should be done? Please let me know the solution... I'm just wondering to be with it.... Please let me know the solution.... "
Thanks Sowmya! Good question - depending on where you upload your designs to sell or license them, you can add your branding and your name to the templates or designs you create and upload to sites like Envato. They usually attribute the designer or creator when selling templates. But if you add your name and company info inside on on the template somewhere it will 'survive' after download to the purchaser.
This is a great video, I have an additional idea that can not only make you money but develop your craft. Start a small business and promote it using your design skills Graphic Design is design but its also promotion if you can design and have promotion skills in social media and SEO this will go well for you, this is what I'm currently doing.
