STATE OF GRACE (1990) Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, Ed Harris Superb film. 'One of my all-time favorites. Please give us a reaction. I don't think anybody else has touched it, and it's flat-out excellent !!!
As magnificent as the acting is, I find the direction equally phenomenal. Every shot is exactly right and Clint Eastwood seems to work very intuitively with how shots themselves propel the story and I often wonder how he does it. Of course he has to consult and confide with the DP and later with the editor, but he does create a world in this Boston slice of dark life where I've actually been to and he nails the atmosphere.
I never been to Boston in my life, but the canon of Boston movies makes me feel like it's a member of my family. Even something as sad and horrific as this. Penn was in another great Boston crime film, with Gary Oldman and Robin Wright: "State of Grace." Highly recommend.
Have you ever seen Sleepers with Brad Pitt, Robert DeNiro, Kevin Bacon, Minnie Driver and _many_ more? It's not easy subject matter but it's a great film. Only 1 reaction I've ever found and it was this year. Hoping the movie gets more attention with reactors.
Dennis Lehane, the author of the book Mystic River, has written a few books that have been made into movies: Shutter Island, The Drop, Live By Night, and Gone Baby Gone, which is probably my favorite of them, though I should warn you that the end of Gone Baby Gone has sparked a lot of arguments.
It's been a long time since I saw this movie. Enjoyed your reaction and observations. Yes the ending is horrifying. Another great acting movie by Sean Penn is At Close Range (1986). Penn is young but he shows great acting. Also starring Christopher Walken. High drama. Penn was once married to Madonna and her closing credit song Live to Tell is played.
It's not a popular or well-known film, but "Under Suspicion," a passion project of Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman, goes into similar interrogation-mindfuck territory. Check it out even if not for the channel. Remake of a hard-to-find French movie.
Tim Robbins. Wow. Think of him in Bull Durham and then Mystic River. Such growth and range. He’s wonderful.
Sean Penn has many awesome performances but imo this is his best movie. Thank you for reacting, new subscriber. 👍😎🔥❤️

Mystic River is very dark and excellent. Not an easy watch for sure.
Since you like Sean Penn you might want to check out 'Into the Wild'.
The movie about Chirs McCandless? I've seen that one "unfortunately". (I loved it.)
@@shandoratthecinema4098 IMO its a gripping and tragic story very well acted and filmed.

I hear you!
I'd say I'll get to it in about a month!
Another good Sean Penn movie is "At Close Range" with Christopher Walken and Mary Stuart Masterson

All the early observations you're making say Clint Eastwood. Genius.
I gave a friend of mine a DVD of '21Grams' and he described it as a backward scream. Yea a very heavy movie.
You ought to consider reacting to Brooklyn's Finest.

Sounds good!
This guy looks like S. Craig Zahler lol
Your edit on this film, left out so much nuance that feeds the understanding of this film as it moves forward… too bad!
movie had interesting themes, and good acting, but it was pretty idiotic overall
The kids killed her not Dave he thought by admitting it jimmy would let him live
