This is my favorite movie. I’ve seen it tons of times, but I always enjoy watching first time reactions to it so that I can experience it all over again through different eyes. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey Shandor! So glad you were captivated by this one. It’s so beautiful and heartbreaking and just masterfully done. Love it. Enjoyed your reaction! Even though I wasn’t really in the mood to cry and knew I’d end up a mess if I watched, I wanted to know your take on the film, so I went ahead and clicked. Wasn’t disappointed, worth the tears! Thank you for sharing!
I've watched this movie many times and it's still so emotional, even if you know how it ends. The acting, as you outlined it throughout the film, is so great that it takes you for a ride every single time you rewatch it.
2nd! I just love your commentary and observations. Yes, this is a really awesome movie, really underrated, back in the day. Although Brad Pitt became legendary for his looks, off these sorts of movies lol.
Great analysis....this was a gut wrenching emotional rollercoaster when I watched it at 19 and it hits harder now as a father and husband....its painful but gives you a chance at being grateful for what we have now
I've always felt that Susanna was deeply infatuated with Tristan, not actually in love with him. She seemed so obsessed with the fantasy of the two of them being a couple that she couldn't really give Tristan comfort during his grief over Samuel. She never even asked him about his feelings on Samuel's death. I don't think Tristan was ever in love with Susanna. I think he cared for & had love for Susanna because of her connection to Samuel. I think Isabel Two was a better match for Tristan. She knew how to read people & she understood Tristan's character better.
Thanks for your insightful reaction to this great film! Another period piece family drama set in the American West of the early 20th century and featuring Brad Pitt that I recommend you react to is the 1992 film "A River Runs Through It" directed by Robert Redford. Critics have called Brad Pitt's portrayal of Paul Maclean in "A River Runs Through It" his career-making performance. Like "Legends of the Fall," "A River Runs Through It" also won an Academy Award for Cinematography. Chris Hicks of Deseret News wrote, "...'Legends of the Fall' will only further cement his [Pitt's] big-screen, romantic leading-man status. And he is satisfying as the internalized, rebellious Tristan...Even if the character seems only a slight twist on the similar role he played in 'A River Runs Through It.'"
Why? It seemed more a moment of vulnerability and weakness than any real intention to do so. Alfred was legitimately right to feel scorned about his father favoring Tristan as a son over him, and he was right abut Tristan being too wild and emotionally unstable to make make Susan happy, but he was clearly jealous and exaggerated what he witnessed in passing. Not that I condone it but saying he stole her from Samuel was absurd.
@@plstne48 because she even said so herself. She fell in love with Tristan before the war and when he comforted her they almost kissed. She even told Tristan later that she sometimes wanted Samuel to die (so she could be with him). This wasn't just a vulnerable moment for her it was so obvious she already loved him. Doesn't mean that she didn't love Samuel, but he had no chance against Tristan.
@@Ninaofthe90s Good valid point. I haven't seen the movie in a while and forget that, but those were her feelings. Maybe Tristan had feelings for her too, but I still maintain that claiming Tristan stole her from Samuel is untrue. Having feelings doesn't mean you cross the line into actually pursuing the person. In the context of that scene, it was clear they were both upset Samuel was bent on going to war. It was a moment of weakness and I believe Tristan would have never pursued anything if Samuel was still alive.
I had talked so much shit on this movie saying that someone in hollywood just recycled the script of A River Runs Through It and rewrote it as a bloated melodrama to make Pitt look good again after Interview With A Vampire bombed. Its grown on me over the years but still why they gotta do our mans Hopkins like that in the end? anyways Google the late great Roger Ebert's review of this movie. He famously blasted this film in all its absurdity. Some of the funniest shit written from the GOAT. Anyway shout outs from California on the killer channel Shandor. U insightful and got a good eye and u aint cringe as shit like them other fake reaction dweebs that count tell the difference of a good film to a film of dust. Aight i be yappin 2much im out. peace
It’s one of the most memorable movies in my own life, but I must say, the narration and depth of yourself, Shandor, is very perceptive and touching.
I check almost every evening to see if someone is reacting to this fantastic film. Thank you for making my night❤️

This is my favorite movie, tied with Goodfellas. It was so dramatic and gorgeous and EPIC, and the music was just top-notch. Thank you, James Horner!

Thank you she initiated everything with Tristin. He never said he loved her he never told her to wait for him that was all her.

SUCH a good movie.
Really enjoyed your commentary, as well - so glad you enjoyed it.
😢 this movie is great but gets you in the feels.
"He stole her from Samuel before the war:" That is actually correct.
