I just started watching your videos. Wish I had found you years ago. I am 77 and life consists of mainly church activities, a few dinners out with friends and some shopping but boy will I be looking at my shopping differently now. Thank you.
What a great video. I have been doing the button swap for years. You can really elevate an item with a simple swap out. I also did this on my young boys blazers. Those cheap plastic buttons really do a disservice to a nice looking coat. Also, ironing your clothes (or steaming) can really enhance the look of fabrics. Another great video idea would be on shape wear. The right shapewear can really make a difference. Finding the right shapewear is a whole other battle.
I used to live in a posher area of a nearby city and there was a second hand shop down the street from my apartment. You'd be amazed at the items. Fur coats selling for $50-80. I picked up a designer silk scarf, obviously never used, for $5. Best deal ever. 😅
What your saying about fit is so true.I had two pair of slacks from Talbots one time that just fit like they were made for me.I wore them for almost everything changing tops, jackets, and accessories. I loved them.Still looking for replacements.😊
Beth, you're so professional in front of the camera. I admire you and what you've created here. I've been a subscriber for years and have no doubt that you will hit the 300,000 mark.
I definitely need to make a resolution to clean out my closet after Christmas. I think it's neat how you shared your father taught you at an early age about prorating and how often you would use an item. My parents did similar and it stuck with me all my life. In the past couple of years I've found myself visiting thrift stores and you can find some real classic treasures sometimes.
This video was spot on! Clean, pressed and fit are so important in looking your best. As a sewist choosing the right buttons is key to an attractive handmade garment. I’ve even searched resale shops for high end clothes just for the buttons! As a petite woman finding a hanger that will fit my petite tops is a challenge. Most are too wide for my tops.
I like your statement, "looking the best version of ourselves." It is more important than trying to look expensive. If one just takes pride in what you wear, no matter what the cost, that is key. Can you use a steamer on wool clothing? I have two new pairs of wool trousers and they have folding lines in them. Thanks for your inspiration, Beth. I know that "looking like a million bucks" is just a saying, but you always look that way.
Love your videos for those of us of the best age...mature. Your style is impeccable. My issue is that I am home most of the time and while I love athleisure wear, I am on the heavy side of the spectrum and have difficulty finding clothing that is comfortable AND flattering. I'm not a huge shopper so am looking for more online options.
Hi Beth loved the video, you have inspired me to get out there and sort my wardrobe out and make myself the best I can be.. I have just had a year of health problems and I am recovering well. but my self-confidence has been zero, but listening to you today has lifted me up Thank you regards Christine from England
I enjoy all your videos, and I found this video particularly inspirational. I am feeling motivated to do a wardrobe cull and to be more ruthless than I have previously. I know and understand my style very well and yet there are items that I hang onto even though I don't reach for them simply because I spend good money on them. Well, if I donate them, someone else may reach for them and love them and I'll have less clutter, a win all round.
Thank you for your good ideas. And you look marvelous & elegant with fashion & not old💃I’m 65 & fashion means a lot to me 😊It makes you feel good on the inside & then beautiful on the outside 👍Good Job
Quince Mongolian cashmere are excellent buys on a budget, even with shipping to Aus. The 50usd sweater is terrific, great cut, luxurious cashmere. They have leather bags made in Florence at great prices, well designed. Oh yes the cost per wear comes from the Whole Earth Cataologue from 1970 or so. Worst is hat excellent leather shoes have long gone by decades, similarly superb boots long gone.
I love all your videos. And I love the button-swapping idea in this one. I've often had that same idea, and when I recently went to the fabric store to buy some replacement buttons for a basic white shirt, I ended up replacing all the buttons with much nicer ones. I'd actually love to see you expand on ideas like this. What do you think of monogramming shirts? Are there other ways you can take a purchased item and do something to it to set it apart and make it stand out?
So glad to see your channel because you are not bone thin like most RUclipsrs who give style advice. It’s very frustrating to see them model clothes for Audrey Hepburn. Love your tips. All the clothes you showed were so pretty but The out fit in jeans and grey turtle neck and long grey sweater is absolutely stunning and the last 3 on you wow! But the grey outfit is a good outfit for those wanting to look taller and thinner. Blessings to reach your goal of 300,000❤
Such good advice. I also take into consideration if the item I'm purchasing will go with at least 3 other items that I already own. This keeps me from buying too many things.
You always look amazing in red. You are a wonderful teacher and yes that is how I look at it. I have learned so much from you. And a nice wardrobe is possible without spending your last penny!
Great tips. I love Thred up! I find so many quality brands and often with tags on them . I buy my clothes one size up and have everything tailored. My clothes look so much more expensive this way.
Hi! I recently had a bunch of pants taken in at the waist by a tailor i found. Oh my gosh, they feel sooo good now! What a difference it makes to have clothes that fit 😅
The question I ask is will this item work for my real life not my imaginary life. I’m always drawn to dresses and more formal items. But those don’t work in my now casual lifestyle. No need to have a closet of beautiful items that you don’t actually wear
Love you Beth, but the one year rule is really antiquated. A better question is does this still work in my wardrobe? I have pieces that are from 1975 that I don't wear every year, but cherish and still use.
Love your ideas, so inspiring, the sweater and necklace you are wearing suit you beautiful, I agree tailoring is so important, a good fit and well kept piece make you look confident, thanks beth
Used clothing stores are excellent resources for buttons. Quality buttons are costly at fabric stores but a garment at the Goodwill is only $4 to $5, buttons included!
Thank you for sharing your precious gems of knowledge. Some of these I was aware of, while others I'd forgotten and also learned new tips. I have subscribed and look forward to learning more!
Hi Beth! I’m new. I’m so glad i found this video! 😃 I needed to hear everything you said about wardrobe. My closet is a disaster. Thanks for a very inspiring video and so many great fashion tips! ❤
FUSCHIA is your color… so becoming on you! Pink IS for girls! I’d enjoy you doing a video or two utilizing your belts. Belts are so often referenced, but I’m challenged beyond a “boring” narrow leather belt with jeans. Additionally, the prices seem shocking!
I love the luxe button hack, Beth. I have done that in the past. However, I'm going to check out my closet for any items where I could implement that hack again. Thank you! -Joanne
Fantastic video! Thank you for the portion, Dress for Your Lifestyle. I am a Domestic Goddess who does a lot of charity work. One of the organizations I belong to requires that I dress up (formal gowns for the conferences). Got a lot of inspiration for what to continue doing and what to reconsider. Have always followed the idea of mix and match pieces but I find so many fun and different ideas as to how to wear what I already own from watching you. Thank you! A Loyall Watcher from New England
Just what I needed, I desperately need a clear out of my clothes & shoes, i have some pieces I've never worn or it's too big or too small, I'm now using the fronts & backs of bedroom doors to hang my clothes. I think I've put it off for so long now, it looks like a huge undertaking!! I'll get help!! Thank you for giving me the push I needed!!
I do spend a lot on my wardrobe, mostly because I don’t buy synthetic fibers or other plastic items, like footwear or accessories. I don’t have a lot of choice, having skin allergies to plastic. An all-natural material wardrobe always looks more expensive, because it is. But, it also gives that elegant, high-quality look. I just buy less and choose very carefully. Plus, I wear modern, but essentially classic, styles that don’t date quickly, instead of every little trend, so all my clothes can be worn for years to come. At age 63, I only want to look well-dressed, not trendy or “fashionable.” Midi skirts “out” this year? I couldn’t care less!
Thank you for these very practical ideas… great video! Do you have a solution for an “apron” around my lower abdomen, caused by weight loss! I love belts but due to the protrusion in my lower abdomen, I really need to wear tops that cover it. Thanks for any suggestions! Love & hugs🙏😘🤗
Beth, this video hit home today. I left my front door feeling frumpy.I put on all nice pieces but none of it worked together…lol. There is a silver lining. I realized today straight leg, or pencil leg pants/jeans are easier for me to style and tend to be my go-to look. When I try to wear my bootcut pants/jeans I always get stumped on styling. I think I need a couple of fresh casual shoe options that aren’t sneakers and I need to figure out shoe colors. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🥿👟👡
I dressed up today for my daughter's play. I got a compliment from another woman who loved my boots. Beth, if your whole outfit is pulled together, including your coat, purse, and accessories, someone notices! It wasn't just about the boots! She honed in on how put together I looked and focused her compliment on my boots. But if I had ratty old jeans and a sweatshirt on, I would not have received a compliment.
I make it a point to tell women when they look great. In my area most women look pulled together but everyone can always use a compliment for a great boost in confidence.
Taking garments to a tailor can do miracles. My son bought high quality at good price on eBay and had them tailored, even shirts tailored for under fine wool suits to give a smooth line. Tailors are highly skilled can correct shoulders and armholes perfectly.
Buttons: absolutely! My biggest issue though, is how my body became apple shaped after a bout of breast cancer, surgery & therapy. & my hair never actually came back…
Hi Beth love you channel, could you give some style tips for wearing only flats to work. Had a foot operation and i can no longer wear high heels. My style used to be classic and more formal structured clothing, i never seem to feel properly dressed anymore wearing on flats especially in summer.
As a short, post menopausal woman with almost no waist, I find tailored items, princess seams and shirt-tail hems are much better silhouettes for me than belts and tucking. Belts and tucking cut me in half...that horizontal line does nothing but accentuate my short grandma figure.
❤hello, boy did i get a blessing one,at the Salvation army, i found 6 pieces of st john pant suits.outstanding.❤
Score!
I just started watching your videos. Wish I had found you years ago. I am 77 and life consists of mainly church activities, a few dinners out with friends and some shopping but boy will I be looking at my shopping differently now. Thank you.
Buttons! Of course. What an easy style upgrade and I love going through the button section at Joannes Fabrics.

Loved your advice. Particularly about changing the buttons. Keep our hair stylish is important too. I'll be watching you often now I've you.
I am a retired grandmother. I liked the tip about the belts and will look at the Ada site. I routinely use a seamstress and shoe repairman.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I even have my tee shirts tailored. Tailoring makes such a huge difference.
Yes it does!
The button issue is genius!
I’m remodeling my closet and will be more organized for the future. You have given me some good style ideas. Thank you.
