Did you know that Chris has terrible stage fright, and that's why he has his wife on stage? She obviously has a wonderful voice, but she is also there to help him overcome his phobia.
the moment when Justin yells SING IT CHRIS! followed by that rip from Chris gives me chills quite literally EVERY time i hear it. this performance is absolute perfection...and the word perfection doesn't even do the band justice.
@Walterwhiteww2hey are two very different types of vocalist and have each mastered their craft. One isn’t better than the other. This isn’t even a discussion. You may prefer one sound to the other, but they are both masters at what they do, make no mistake.
That Stapleton/Timberlake is the best video on the internet. I've watched so many times and it never gets old. Everyone is having so much fun and it shows
Still arguably one of the best live performances ever, nevermind just at the CMA’s. Epitome of how to have fun on stage while knocking it out the park.
Everyone on that stage was top notch. The vocals, the horns, the keys - those players will be talking about THAT performance for the rest of their lives.
Justin is originally from Tennessee, this country is in his soul. Him and Chris are legitimate friends and that's part of the reason they seem to be having so much fun.
They were not going to let Chris sing on the CMA show because they said @ the time he had not had enough radio time with his songs... He said what if brought a friend Justin Timberlake & the rest is history... This show launched Chris's into the mudic limelight....👏
@@mpcruiser69 yes, this is what I'd read along the way, too. As good as he is, Stapleton himself, is pretty modest about blowing his own horn, and from what I had taken away from a previous article, he's gotten kind of hosed on some past dealings/deals with people who maybe started w good intentions but got lost when it came to playing w the big boys. He ended up getting very little promotion and marketing and just kept playing small venues in small towns until he got his break. Unless *that* was just a story, too, but somehow, it seemed believable enough especially when the CMA story came out.
the thing that makes this entire performance so special is that this is one of those shows where things just click. a group of amazing musicians, getting together, respecting one another, admiring on another, pushing one another and having an absolute blast together. you can tell that a lot of "who sings what" was in the moment, by head gestures and body language (i.e. moving away from the mic and stuff). You can also tell its just one those night, because of the audience reaction. Those arent Fans, those arent every day Joes that are impressed easily, and they where all on their feet, loving every second of it. I truly love this Show and I come back to watch it regularly. I also gained a lot of respect for Justin as a musician (Im a metalhead, through and through, so admiting Justin Timberlake isnt a Boy Band blow off anymore didnt come easy :D )
About 6 months before this performance, Justin Timberlake tweeted- “Chris Stapleton. Music fans know. The rest of y’all gonna learn.” Or words to that effect.
One of the GREATEST tv performances of all time. I was obsessed when I saw it the first time, and still obsessed to this day! Brilliant minds coming together, beauiful.
I have heard tell that all of the performers involved in this performance had an absolute blast, and that the roof came off the building at the end of it. Once of the greatest live performances, ever...
These kind of collabs are my favourite. They are unexpected but because each is a talent on their own, it forces them to up their game to not be outdone and when that happens you get magic
I found Chris Stapleton through this particular performance. I even have to admit that Justin did a hell of a job on this song. Truly great performance. Pleased to say that I'm not dead inside. Huzzah! Love ya Lady!
I remember seeing this live and my jaw was on the floor. You could feel that you were witnessing something incredible. Just so much energy in that room during this performance. Justin and Chris have the best bands in the business.
that is one of the most EPIC performances I have ever seen. To have Rebecca comment and react along with it, makes it that much more AMAZING! Thank you all! So awesome. The talent is off the charts.
I understand that the band is actually Justin‘s band. I also read that Chris was a little nervous about this gig and it was his wife that suggested he call his friend Justin, so they are definitely friends. Who would’ve thought that a raspy voice and a clear, pure voice would sound so good together!
One of the single best performances on a stage I have had the pleasure to witness. The vocals, the performance, the instrumentals are unbelievable. You take two diverse talents and mix them with the Memphis rhythm and blues sounds and wow! Amazing...❤
Yep. This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen at a show like this. Maybe THE. They're all SO good, they get each other, they have chemistry, just fantastic musicianship all around!
Thanks for doing this reaction. I loved it. Chris Stapleton is the MAN. I've seen him live twice and almost cried I couldn't afford tickets in Cleveland last week!!
The line in the song you’re trying to quote is, “I’ve tried Jack (as in Jack Daniels), I’ve tried Jim ( as in Jim Beam), I’ve tried all of their friends……”
Everything I've heard says they are huge friends in real life and I believe that shines through in this performance. Not only did this performance introduce Chris to people from another genre who may never have heard of him it changed my opinion of JT as an artist. It says we all have biases we need to jettison. Greatness has no gender, race or genre....
I’ve tried Jack (Jack Daniels) I’ve tried Jim (Jim Beam). Gin is not used. Chris is from KY and Justin is from Memphis, they both have twangs. Justin saw Chris singing on RUclips right before Tennessee Whiskey came out and really liked him. His wife (Jessica) got in touch with Chris to see if he would come perform for Justin’s birthday party as a surprise. He did and they are friends, good friends. Watch Joe Rogan’s podcast with Chris it’s over an hour long and you will find out a lot about Chris. He will only perform 3 times a week to protect his voice.
Did she just say “Shippin’ chips mothertrucker monkey”? Yes, I think she did. I can’t decide whether I enjoyed the performance or your reaction more. Loved both! ❤️
Big band a tonne to this song. If I could live-mix Chris and his wife, I could die happy inside. I LOVE her voice, voice quality in the mix. All the sound-people know how good she is and how much of a joy it would be to mix her into the incredible vocals.
Drinking in good music is very intoxicating, without all the negative side effects. Thank you Rebecca for allowing me to experience the wonderful world of music with you, you inspire me to explore music and to learn new things, you make me smile : )
This performance looks like a courtship between Memphis and Nashville…hello honeymoon! The best parts of each city’s music came together on one stage. This is one of the best live performances ever but especially for the CMAs.
For whatever reason it happened, they were having fun playing together, they hadn't played that song in awhile, the crowd was giving it back to them...it doesn't matter why, the band was on one that night. They hit that very rare sweet spot where it feels like you can play forever and there is no such thing as a wrong note, where you KNOW, you don't have to think about it, you don't ever have to wonder or second guess, you know in your soul , the guy next to you has got your back and will help you do whatever, musically, you want to pull off. Complete, total freedom of musical and emotional expression. I don't know if that second song was planned...but it wouldn't matter if it weren't. It was going to happen anyway. All the two front men could do was hold on for the ride and prey they had the chops to keep up. Fortunately, they did. All you have to do is look out at that audience to see that. The look on the faces of the performers out there... They all knew what was happening on that stage. They had a runaway band, and it was awesome!
So glad you finally made it round to this one. It's one of THE best performances I've ever seen. That jam was just locked in and grooving, and nobody wanted off that train. You should check out their other collaboration, "Say Something."
Hello Rebecca . Let me tell you why i like you so much . You don`t bore us to death trying to impress us with your technical knowledge , like so many of the other voice coaches !! After all we already know you`re a technical genius !! Wow lady , you really get into the music . You feel every note and it shows on your face and in your other body language . Your reactions are priceless !! I absolutely love watching you as you listen to the music !! Those little idiosyncrasies that are unique to you are precious ! It`s all very refreshing ! Love you lady !! .

anyone denying how good of a singer Justin is at this point is just lying to themselves lol.
he called for Chris's response like he was James Brown

Listen to Chris Klafford. His cover of Tennessee Whiskey is also amazing. ruclips.net/video/GZcIzncVGAg/видео.html What do you think?
Until you hear john Mayer's new live Jimmy Kimmel performance of last train home
its amazing but its not live aid. 👸
It's great, especially for this type of music.. but its no Metallica
💯
Everyone on that stage was top notch. The vocals, the horns, the keys - those players will be talking about THAT performance for the rest of their lives.
Being on that stage goes at the TOP of any resume.
Justin is originally from Tennessee, this country is in his soul. Him and Chris are legitimate friends and that's part of the reason they seem to be having so much fun.
Yup they bonded over dad stuff
The way Justin plays with the band and the communication between them and how he in a way directs them. True showman!
I absolutely adore how Chris Stapleton transforms you into Elaine from Seinfeld. ❤❤❤
Totally! I read this comment before I watched and now I can’t stop laughing.
He says I’ve tried jack ive tried jim I’ve tried all of his friends

10:47 when everyone stops playing and let Chris unleash his roar. Goosebumps everytime
INDEED!
Chris and Justin look like they synergize so naturally. I'm surprised they haven't dropped an entire album together yet.
When you said “if your not feeling anything listening to this then your dead inside” my head was literally bopping feeling it as you were doing haha

A room full of peers reacting like fans at their first concert. Best compliment ever. I never get tired of seeing this
Chris's wife, Morgane is the backup singer.
Say Something, by Justin and Chris is lovely. 💙
Want to thank you for that comment. I just found the live version of "Say Something" and it is out-mothereffing-standing.
Has Rebecca not reacted to that???? Off to check now. Thanks
She can sang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you reeeeally don’t ever want a performance to end !!!! So amazing

I have heard this so many times. I still get goose bumps.
the lyric is "I've tried Jack I've tried Jim I've tried all of their friends" not Gin as in Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.
A surprisingly clever pairing of voices. Long time JT fan and was surprised to see this duo. They both nailed it here. Excellent performers.
The guy famous for singing about Tennessee Whiskey with a famous guy from Tennessee? Not that surprising.
When can we hang out? You are simply scrumptious. And scathingly talented.
After this you HAVE to check out their duet "Say Something" so good. The one take music video is awesome as well!!
I was going to suggest the same!
