ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?
Also thank you for all your support. It means a lot.

True story: I grew up with Brent in Knoxville TN. I've known him since Kindergarten (although we haven't talked since we finished High School). In 7th grade, we rode the bus together and used to share the headphone pieces from a Walkman and listen to metal tapes. He would always sing along, and had a great singing voice all the way back from 7th grade. We both got guitars that year and used to spend the night at each other's houses showing each other what we had recently learned on our guitars. (Neither one of us got any good at it). We also wrestled together on our High School wrestling team. Anyway, he obviously stuck with music, and I didn't. I left home after high school and went into the Marines. I got out 5 years later and moved to FL for flight school. I heard Shinedown for the 1st time down there in 2001. I instantly recognized the voice, but couldn't place who it was. Once I found out it was my old school buddy, it made perfect sense. He's always had a powerful voice. Wish I could reconnect with him.
go to a concert and explain to him with backstage pass.
I met him before the second show I saw them. The few minutes I got to talk to each of them, they definitely did not forget where they came from
Hey Jason,
I live in Knoxville TN. If you don't mind me asking, what H.S. did you two go to?
@@eddiehaskell1957 Doyle for middle school, then it became South Doyle for High School. I moved back to town 10 years ago, and actually only live 1 mile from our old High School!
@@jasonvandergriff7809 I don't know much about Doyle H.S. My son went to Gibbs. I live in the County. Somehow we got a Corryton zip code. Anyway I want to thank you for doing 5 yrs in the Corp.
This was nowhere NEAR his strongest performance of this song. He's an absolute beast vocalist.
Johnny Tucker which is the best live version? The in my living room one?
@@eddier9921 Yes sir. Don't you think? It's not flawless but it feels more raw and real.
Just my opinion.
Johnny Tucker I was thinking the exact same thing. The living room performance is phenomenal. The only thing is in this stage performance, he’s singing it in standard tuning with the guitar, while in the living room one, he sang that one a full step lower. So he was singing in a higher tune on stage even though it was so many years later and his voice is still damn great.
Your right, the version at his house is!!!! AWSOME
@@eddier9921 live in Kansas was his best of all songs, listen to the whole concert its incredible
You must do .45 by Shinedown.
This song would kill her
Now just time to decide on the acoustic or electric version. If it were a vote, mine would be on the acoustic one.
Acoustic!
Acoustic version 100%
For real
Shinedown: the band with such an extensive playlist, you'd think they were 47 times bigger than they are. What a phenomenal band.
About 120 songs. And they're still going
Ummm, you are aware that they officially have the most #1 rock songs ever, right? Don't get me wrong, they're literally my favorite band, but I don't think they can be called underrated anymore lol
@@sandonparrish7217 I love Shinedown too, but I’d like to know where your information comes from? I side with @D G I feel that they are way underrated!
@@KYDRIVER1 just Google Shinedown #1 rock songs. Almost every single that they have put out in their career has went to #1 on the billboard rock charts. I'm pretty sure it was with Atlas Falls that they beat Van Halen for the most #1s
@@sandonparrish7217 well by god! You are absolutely correct! Congratulations to them! I’m glad you made me aware of that. It will give me more reason to get people to love them like I do 😂
Whispers “Shit...yes!” My favorite reaction so far.
Scary part is this isn't close do their best live version of this song
Yeah, there's better versions they've done out there.
This is good, but nothing compared to Ronnie Van Zant
I've seen them in concert, let me tell you how memorizing Brent is. I highly recommend seeing them live.
@IIIIISIXXIIIIII I agree he is a monster of a singer. I feel she could have picked a better version of that song. Technically it wasn't his best. He's human, not going to be perfect every time. Sometimes not perfect is what makes a song special. Just not this one.
In the world of cookie cutter singers. Brent is on his own. Never mistake his vocals. That's why he has been around as long as he has.
I I would have to agree. This was one of his worst performances of this song. Please one of his numerous better versions and critiques that. And hey Rebecca, could you please help me with my range? Please listen to the original version of "Rooster" by Alice in Chains. I've only been able to pull off the beginning a couple times in my life. How do I expand upon my range?
If you love this ".45" is a good one as well as I must admit I love "Cut the Cord"
I like watching the living.room version, then his mid career live version.and the most recent live/radio version just to see how much his look and sound has changed yet the power remains.
@@7H3541N7 all of the livin room songs are remarkable
"45" from Kansans City with the story at the beginning is amazing. ruclips.net/video/mkBCosrxF5Q/видео.html
This is a powerful song. I havent heard it live though. I love shindown but i feel like his live performance arent his strong suit
The challenge here is to find a song that Brent Smith CAN'T sing. The man has some serious vocals!
challenge accepted.......... only time i got to see him live he was mid cold and didnt hold a note for more than a second and had the range of a turnip... i know that is not normal for him but i was very upset.
I’ve seen them probably close to a half-dozen times and I’ve never been impressed, which is unfortunate because their songs are incredible and they’re among my all-time favorite bands. He’s never been able to step up live, even in their TV concerts.
Nate Thomas I have the same experience. Actually, it’s kinda weird. It’s almost like he doesn’t know how to warm up cause every time I’ve seen them the 1st half of the set he sounds shaky, but his voice sounds so much better the 2nd half.
Every time I’ve seen them, I’ve been beyond impressed by his vocals.
I've seen them 8 or 9 times now and I've always been thoroughly impressed. I saw them in 2004 when they opened for Van Halen. I'm a HUGE VH fan, but Shinedown put them to shame. I've been a huge Shinedown fan ever since.
Love your approach to vocal reaction videos! Feels natural, great flow, and quite informative. Taking notes!
Shinedown Rules in concert. You must see them when they come by your area.
I have!!! Amazing
Greenville sc at the handle bar in like 03 or 04...only about 100 or 200 people in the crowd. Best concert ive seen by far.
One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to in my life!
Saw them long long ago at jacksonville fairgrounds when they were up and coming. Amazing show
Seeing them in October!
"call me" or "what a shame" are in my opinion his best vocal work. Sadly they never play those songs live.
More recently, they have started doing that song live again.
@@LUckybones25 ive seen a few videos but they almost never play them like they were played on the album and i think its because they dont include it on the setlist but instead its requested. I know one video i saw said they didnt even play it when the album came out but for some reason peole started requesting it a lot so they just attempted it even without practice. which i mean, good on them for giving it a shot.
I've seen them 5 times and they have played call me every time.
Seen them 8 times. Call Me I've seen once. What A Shame, never. Which is a shame because it is absolutely my favorite song of theirs. BUT they're touring with a more personal set and their posters for it have What A Shame right at the top. Seeing them in April!
Brent Smith is an outstanding vocalist and I'm thrilled he's made it to your analysis. Sebastian Bach, Pantera, and Brent Smith in such a short span of time...what a holiday gift! Thank you!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS LIVE , THEY PUT THEIR SOUL AND DO A AMAZING SHOW FOR THEIR FANS ! 🎤🎸☝🏻
Seen shinedown live few years back. I have never seen anything like it. Absolutely unbelievable. This video does not even begin to demonstrate what his vocals are actually like. Best live performance i have ever seen by a long long way. If you ever get the opportunity to see them live then dont miss it.
I "gave" this song to my eldest son during his confirmation and we shed a tear the both of us and he was just 15 years old
Brent has a lot of soul and MoTown influences and that has definitely impacted his singing. Seen them live 4 times and it's been fantastic every single time
As mentioned a lot in various comment sections: Alter Bridge "Words Darker Than Their Wings" Live at The Royal Albert Hall, please Rebecca :)
💯
She already has, 7 months ago. Edit I apologize, that was Blackbird. I shall be whipped accordingly.
@@ratrodramblin Don't worry, I've been asking her so many times for that video I think I would slap myself if I found out I missed it :) ahah - Ps: I do apologize for my shaky English
I have to second this, I saw that gig live and it blew my mind when he sung that song hopefully she will do a reaction t video to it soon
I will follow all the Alter Bridge fans here.
Words Darker Than Their Wings live at the Royal Albert Hall is a reaction videothat you should definitely do.
And I will continue to ask for Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) played by Myles Kennedy at the Olympia in Paris 2 weeks ago, he played the song in tribute to Jeff Buckley.
He was playing with Jeff's Telecaster guitar (the one he used to play in this very same place for his live album.) so emotional!
I was at this show, and SHINEDOWN was the band opening for Alter Bridge 😉
Shinedown is a very nice band, the vocals are perfect!
he has such a weak voice and by that i mean its weak unlike Rob Halford's or geoff tates or Bruces. etc. Myles would never be heard without a microphone rob Halford 1005 would all the wayto the back or Jay Buchanan..or any of the above mentioned. his voice is tonally beautiful though
@@1dawnf yeah... I don't know... Maybe not the most powerful but I'de love to have the half of his beautiful voice. You're talking of Halford... Of course, Rob is the king, but the emotional force... The feelings... Traveling through Myles Kennedy's voice are over than Halford's in my opinion.
This 1 million times.
Yess!!
I was lucky enough to be there for that and I still get goosebumps whenever I hear it. It was truly incredible.
I also think it's good to hear Mark Tremonti as his vocal harmonies perfectly compliment Miles'.
I have put this cover into my will. Literally. My Son and stepdaughter will play this at my funeral. Brings tears to my eyes every time.
I love when you turn to the camera with the expression of “are you hearing this voice?!?!”
Funfact: The guitarist (Jasin Todd) at the time Shinedown recorded this song (Lynyrd Skynyrd cover) for the album Leave a Whisper, is married to the daughter (Melody Van Zant) of one of the founders of Lynyrd Skynyrd (Ronnie Van Zant).
The song came about because in the early days of Shinedown the band would play at venue called Freebird Live in Jacksonville (the hometown of both Shinedown and Synyrd). That venue was owned by Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's widow and Melody's mother. Shinedown used to play this song as a thank you to Judy and a tribute to Ronnie.
Indeed. That’s why the version were they bust into the electric and drums is the best(old shinedown)
@@anonymouscali7966 When you say "old Shinedown" I'm not sure what you mean. They still use drums and electric guitar on "Simple Man". See this video from two days ago (not my video). ruclips.net/video/qgSmXpXtpZI/видео.html
This is one of the few covers I actually like better than the original, lol and I am almost ashamed to say that as I am a major lynyrd skynyrd fan.
Totally agree, this is my favorite version of simple man!!!💕💖
Shinedown is a awesome band!
He is probably my favorite vocalist that's come out in the last 10 years I've seen them live 3 times he never ever disappoints. If you like the way his voice sounds you should listen the more of their songs cause he is just absolutely phenomenal
I have seen Shinedown twice now and they never cease to amaze me. There truly amazing and his voice is incredible
Blimey! Yes indeed, he's on another plane vocally. If you aren't a fan of Shinedown, what the hell are you waiting for.
This is one of those songs where I can remember exactly where I was when I heard it
I was just about to go get something done and then you posted this so I had to stop and watch. Haha
Shinedown was my daughter's favorite band for a long time and we have seen them many times. Brent Smith's voice is very strong and powerful. One of my favorite vocalists of this era of rock music.
They have been touring through Europe/UK for the last month with Alter Bridge. That would have been an amazing show to go to.
I'm going to see them (Alter Bridge) next July and I can't wait!! I don't know if Shinedown will follow but I hope so.
@@julyriver8851 have you seen them before? I just saw them and did the VIP in October. Incredible show. They were touring with Skillet then. I posted a few videos I took .
@iwtmltyb I saw them in October and I agree! They are both incredible musicians and performers. Flip and Brian are awesome also!
@@shamalamadingdong5718 Yes, back in 2008. Great concert and great night overall. A funny memory is a guy next to me that completely freaked out just watching one of Mark's guitar being carried on stage by a crew member (my though was "think what he's gonna do when the man will show up!") and then I also remember me and my friend, as everybody else in the audience, dropping the jaw at the end of "Travelling Riverside Blues". These guys are so talented! All of them. Wow, VIP? I'm happy for you! I'll have a look at your videos for sure, thanks.
@@julyriver8851 that sounds funny that the guy would freak out about seeing his guitar. I have been to shows where the crowd would go nuts when the roadies would start playing something during soundcheck.
Awesome, if you check them out there are also a few I recorded from when I saw Myles on his solo tour. 👍
My Christmas is complete! My favorite RUclips goddess reacted to my favorite modern male vocalist, and she liked it :D. Interesting facts: they are currently touring with Myles & Alterbridge, they helped Lzzy Hale and Halestorm get their start, and Shinedown is one of the hardest working, touring bands out there. Thank you so much, lovely RVA, for giving this gift. I agree below to react to some of their original stuff like 45, Save Me, What a Shame, Monsters. Off to your Patreon to join up:D
Our homegirl just had a flash flood down under. I don't blame her. He's good

I always love this cover, his voice is angelic. You should check out "45" by the same band.

The acoustic version of 45 really shows his vocal power.
Fly From The Inside was also a great song from that album
Shed Some Light is another one that I really enjoy. 2nd album though. Lacerated is a good one too
I agree, that song killer! She said wanna more so...I love '45' very much!

Shinedown is one of my favorite bands!! They were touring with one of my other all time favorites..Alter Bridge last year. I got to see them both..was AWESOME!! Two very different styles of vocals but both very powerful, and great musicians all!
Who was the headliner for that tour? I'd find it difficult to pick one out of those 2
I've been listening to them since 2003 and have seen them 15 times live throughout the years. He has been great since day one and year after year and album after album he finds a way to bring it to the next level. Unbelievable
You NEED NEED NEED to do some more Shinedown Reactions.... such an incredible band and such a versatile voice!!! Xx
This live version really down't not do him any justice. The Acoustic studio version lets him come out full force. I think his voice is up there among the great in rock and metal.
I prefer the version who does in some guys living room better. He's tired in this one
Totally agree with you. The acoustic studio version is great. Hes vocals are great !! Up there with the best.

I was thinking the same thing with this one. Older one is far better!

The Lynyrd Skynyrd classic. I'm glad to see others covering it, keeping it alive.
This song never fails to make me shed a tear. Makes me think about my parents and my son and everything they wanted for me, and subsequently everything I want for my son. Beautiful song.

My best friend introduced me to this song when we were teenagers. He passed away a few days before my wedding. I miss him every day. This song always makes me cry.
I love the rendition of him sitting in his friends living room doing it acoustic. My favorite rendition of this song. It's like a 9 or 11 year old video. But I keep going back to it.

"Simple Man" - by Lynyrd Skynyrd (1973)
Skynyrds the best
Comparing it technically, if you take out the love for Skynyrd, it's not in the same league. I mean, purely objectively speaking. If your reaction to that fact is emotional, you don't have an understanding, you have an opinion. Which is fine, just isn't at all related to what I'm saying.
