When we switched to MTP the smocks seemed way to heavy and the fleece lined pockets hold the water terribly on exercise etc plus being seen with your hands in your pockets 😨 the C.O. Would have you for it lol. The Gaberdine smocks are much better in my opinion dry quicker and with full kit on etc lightness is a must! You need a size up by the look of it just so you have a bit more movement available.Oh we use to mod our hoods by cutting of the wire in the hood as they became a pain in the arse on exercises etc.
Connell MacCool Hi ya, yes I can see that the fleece pockets will hold water, warm though when dry :-) I was going to take the wire out but after much discussion with others and then using the MTP in the pouring rain I decided to leave it in for now as it was quite useful, it does annoy me though. So far it's proved to be a great piece of kit, but expect if I was using it for military purposes I would find more faults as you did. Have a look at some of my newer vids where I'm wearing it, it feels the right size for me with a few layers underneath. Thanks very much for watching and commenting. Lee
I wouldn't go up or down a size Lee, thats bang on 👌. I had to send back the apparently new unused British army petroleum goretex jacket i bought on ebay. It had stains on the inside and smelled of fabric conditioner plus it would have fitted Peter Crouch. Thanks for sharing Lee. Atb Sconja 👍
LOL Peter Crouch, Sconja. Shame about your jacket :-( yes I think going into a surplus shop is the only way to get sizing right, yes happy with the fit on my new one, such good quality for £35.00 cant find a single fault apart from not having blanks for the velcro arms... just ordered 2 for £4.00 of fleabay. oh also its proper water[proof on initial testing under the tap... just beads off. Cheers mate. Lee
Hi bertie winner winner chicken dinner ive got a dutch army tri laminate and thats good .looks a nice bit of kit how old this video is i bet youve worn it out by now ?
A cracking arctic smock. I wouldn’t take the wire in the hood out. It keeps the hood in place when the wind is battering in from the side. Great find. 👍
T 1 out & about Thanks very much for your comment, yes it's nice and warm too, I didn't think it would be that waterproof either but tested under tap last night and it just beads off. Thanks very much for watching. Lee
Burton Outdoors No problem. I enjoyed the video. Although I initially thought the video was about the chance to WIN a combat smock. I thought it was a competition to win one & clicked. I then realised it wasn’t, but watched the video anyway as I used to wear those smocks in the arctic. A very long time ago. I will check out some of your other videos, but be careful you may get other ppl thinking 🤔 it’s a chance to WIN a jacket.
T 1 out & about Ahhh yes I see, sorry it wasn't a click bait title... more a WIN for me after some losses... I may change the description. Many thanks, please feel free to subscribe and click the notification bell if you like what you see. Thanks, Lee
Burton Outdoors absolutely - clear in the context of your quest for a dpm jacket. Glad you’ve got one that you’re comfortable with. The Arctic smock looks great on & it’ll serve you well. Wishing you health to wear it, strength to tear it & plenty of money to buy more. 👍
T 1 out & about Thanks, also never knew it was called an Arctic jacket, would have thought it would be a bit chilly as it's not lined, I'm not a military man so wouldn't know, but I suppose a military guy would have other clothes on underneath more than a fleece, although it's warm with a fleece on. Cheers.
Thumbs up from myself, Lee. Fits better than the others you got. MTP is a good camo. Lots of pockets on those for what you need. You might want to keep the wire for the hood, especially for windy rainy day. :)
Bearded Bushcrafter Cheers Trev, thanks for the comments, yes I will put up with the hood for a bit and see how much it actually annoys me. Think I will stick with this one for the mo. Lee
Looks a cracking smock, a bit different to mine I don't have the upper arm pockets just velcro patches which I have blanked, mine is also buttons and not velcro fronted, but still looks very smart pal atb Mike 👍🏻
GINGERBUSHCRAFT Thanks Mike for the comment, odd how they are different although the medium I tried on was different and without the hand warmer pockets. Cheers mate
Hi, not sure but I'm 5ft 11" medium build, I will look up a chart for you as British Army gear has lots of different variables for chest size, arm length, body length etc... leave it with me I will find a link to sizing for you my jacket is size guide 170/104
Dye the smock green or brown, it looks very good and less military ... I did it with woodland brown and I'm very happy with the outcome, it looks like tree bark.
You can fold the hood at the back and sew it so it's a tight fit. Also I rub a unlit wax candle all over the jacket till the full jacket is white and hair dry the wax till you cant see it (wax jacket that is fully water resistant)
Hi Lee, great video. I'd say that I'm about your size 5'11" which is about 180cm. Chest about 40". Is the spec of your jacket 170/104 or 180/104? Thanks, James
Also I noticed that you went off camera to get the hood out . I presume that it actually attaches to the jacket somehow - by zip or velcro? And you can leave it attached or roll it away. Best, J
@@jamesgreally2195 it's already attached fully, just rolls up to make a collar and keeps rolled up by the wire and also a little toggle. I love it, so comfy to wear too, have a look at my other viddy where I fit a whole days worth of gear in the pockets. ruclips.net/video/aUFnIaX_I3I/видео.html

I prefer the 94/95 pattern or earlier smocks. Perhaps you could brush it with some emulsion. Good fit though.
Yeah it was a perfect fit, but I sold it a couple of years later for 3x what I paid for it 🤷🏼♂️

Hey 👋 The video is 6 maybe 7 years old... I sold the MTP jacket a couple of years ago, I hardly wore it as it was heavy when wet 😂😂
@@BurtonOutdoors are you going plain green now like most bushcrafters ? Keep on rocking 😎
@paulevans-u2o I'm not really a bushcrafter, more a wild camper TBH, but yes, fairly green 🤣
Great piece of kit, I want one have you got a link?
I haven't Terry, I got it from an army surplus shop that I walked into and got it over the counter. Lee
