    Damn. That was some pretty deep stuff, especially since I thought it was going to be a comparison of like, "Oh look how funny these ads are, and now look how serious we've gotten." But what you say is right. As technology evolves, so do our opinions. We forget to think that back then, shit like 3D rendered polygons at like, 30 FPS was INSANE. Never HEARD of such a thing. Like looking back at Mario 64 and being like, "Yeah, this was groundbreaking before. Look how doofy everything looked." And they'll be saying that about TODAY'S Mario in 20 years. We as people evolve so much that we kind of take what we have for granted, and OFTEN...
    Sorry if this wasn't the point of your video, but I'm bad at comprehension.. xP Still loved it though! I love tech, so this was a trip. :3

    The whole stupid f***ing RGB fad now reminds me very much of the hit-and-miss design cues from '99/early 2000s. It's a step backward in and of itself. And heaven forbid you criticise it now, or you're loopy, just like criticising something back then was loopy. The thing is though, 1999 sounds like it was a long time ago, and it is in some regards, but using the RGB thing as an example, people are still suckers for gimmicks today.

    • @darkshadowsx5949
      @darkshadowsx5949 4 года назад +1

      I do agree some people over emphasize RGB in their rigs for kicks, but there are some very ascetically pleasing custom builds with RGB.
      i personally only use Red for my themed build. i dont need a disco floor in my pc.
      with that said i guarantee you buy "gimmicky" shit too and dont realize it.

    I dunno in terms of tech i think we have come far but saying today's tech will be laughable in 10 years or 20... debatable.
    We are at the peak end of Moores law and things may slow down rather than progress.
    Unless we get another form of tech that is not silicon then things will stay as they are, I mean yes there are rumors of DNA computers but we are still a long way off.

    I built my first computer at the end of 1999. It was top end. 20gig HDD, AMD Athlon cpu (can't recall size), 128mb memory, a kick-arse NVidia GeForce 64mb card and of course a DVD-rom, CD-writer and floppy drive. Big fucking 19 or 20 in CRT monitor in everyone's favourite shade grey-beige (greige). It cost me NZ$4900 and it was considered so fabulous that EA Games asked me if I wanted to beta test the new Sims game. NInety-nine others were also chosen. Wow, so funny thinking back to those days. I'd have a download manager running sixteen hours on 56.6k dial up to download photoshop. Warez was commonplace. Usenet/Newgroups is where you went to connect with like minded individuals. Alt groups being the most interesting (around 40,000 of them) ranging from alt. suicide holiday through to alt.drugs, alt.2600.warez and thousands upon thousands more.

    Great philosophical video of how people perceive technology as irrelevant when inventions evolve during their lifetime. Socrates, " The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing."

    First time chancing across your channel, and you really struck a chord with me.
    No matter how much technology improves, and no matter how far we progress; Humans are still the same. Still the same fears, still the same thinking, still the same little tricks to get people to buy stuff.
    But if our ever-advancing technology isn't solving the problems; What do we do? Where do we turn?
    You've given me a lot to think about as I start my day... Thank you.

    I just happened to land on this video and I've got to say you are making some great content. I specifically like your comparing and contrasting fads of the past and now, and how in the future we'll feel the same way about it.

    64GB of RAM may still be a lot for personal computers, but that ad was for the servers & mainframe of large corporations and I doubt any of them would be satisfied with that amount of RAM today.
