Well, I know that for Metabolic acidosis the compound responsible to combat it is bicarbonate to raise the pH in the blood back to the normal range. I know that hyperventilation can remove dissolved co2 in the blood and reduce the acidity of the blood, however I don't believe hyperventilation would have a quick enough effect. I'm not aware of a proper method to raise the bicarbonate levels in a quicker fashion, or at least I can't remember it clearly enough if I was taught it. Hope you can fill me in on what you would do.

I accidentally overdosed on laxative chocolates last year. i was sick and misread the dosage...
I also ended up in the ER and they had to pull me off the toilet to take me to the back. at that point i had the worst cramps of my life...and i have 3 children. I had the worst calf pain and my hands wouldn't unclench they were actually STUCK...i was panicked and breathing really shallow witch is what caused the muscle pain and stiffness.

During the worst of my easing disorder, I was taking 10-15 laxatives EVERYDAY, on top of eating little to nothing (around 250 calories). Mainly because your body gets used to laxatives over time, so you need more & more for it to work. My digestive system is destroyed but I'm so lucky it didn't do more damage. During the time, I had no control over my poop, it would literally start coming out at any time & also effected the electrolytes/minerals in my body. To add, it literally does nothing but dehydrate you when you abuse it, the calories are already absorbed..

I worked it out on my own. I was able to get it under control in my 30's it started when I was 13. Hope everyone else has faired better. I have ulcers caused by this. Hold on. I have to wonder, forget the laxatives for a minute. Eating that many brownies would have probably made him so sick by itself - though I imagine he would have vomited it up and been fine. But who knows with teenage boys? They're about as close to immortal as it gets.

I had a similar thing happen to me back in 2008, and cause a mini stroke, and at one point my by was 360/180, and was close to death. Had hypocalemia from too much laxatives taken. Was urinating and bowel movements very often. Was losing weight about 5 pounds an hour. Was also very thirsty constantly. The third visit, I was not able to do paperwork, my mind was cloudy and blocking thinking) I got lucky where they finally diagnosed what was going on, after 3 hospital visits, (2 to ER, 1 to pcp) and lived.

Low potassium seems to be super common. The last 3-4 times I was admitted to the hospital in last several years, I had low potassium every time. This last time I was admitted for cholecystitis I had low potassium. Nobody's ever explained to me why it's happening though.
