Gremmy gets a lot of flack, but he went up against Kenpachi who is extremely powerful. If he would have targeted any other shinigami at that time, he would have killed them. No one else would have withstood being thrown in space. Kenpachi's weapon is what let him break out of that.

gremmy ddnt imagine that he cant beat kenpachi..he imagined himself to be as strong as kenpachi without imagining his body to handle that strength..it was explained in the end credits..
Well not 100% correct but you're on the right path lol. Everything in Bleach is dependent on reiatsu. Depending on how much of it you have, you can even become a deity and gain God like powers.
Reiatsu can negate reiatsu. Gremmy wanted to become as powerful as Kenpachi. One thing he didn't take into account: his reiatsu would never be as powerful as Kenpachi's, and that's something he couldn't imagine himself having more. The things he could imagine were more of a physical nature , but it's straight up shown that he needs to duplicate himself to have more power. And he didn't try to make hundreds or millions or infinite clones, meaning the bodies he summoned would've been his limit. And that's where his logic fell apart. Of course, even with this, he could've defeated Kenpachi, had he been a bit smarter about it. He wasn't as powerful technically but he could've defeated him if he just stuck to bombarding him with his strongest attacks.
Then again, maybe he was reaching his limit, and the fact Kenpachi was still standing after those body detonators got him really desperate as anything else he would've thrown at Kenpachi might not have worked and he himself was probably beginning to get exhausted. So maybe he couldn't have, but at the end of the day, the right person won because Kenny was just stronger, that's it

Zaraki literally admires Unohana a lot, he names his lieutenant after her out of respect. He named her "Yachiru" the same name as Yachiru Unohana.

I love that the only reason this fight works is because Kenpachi got in Gremmy's head about being the strongest and Gremmy couldn't imagine himself winning against Kenpachi (also Gremmy wanted to overpower him instead of deleting him form existence)
Not sure if it's on purpose, but whenever Kenpachi gets hit with an explosion he's shows exhaling the smoke, making him look like a demon or maybe an Oni.
Kenpachi said that theres nothing he can't cut and that includes the fabric of space.

[Tidbits & Clarifications]
- Yachiru's ability is quite strong, It strikes before she attacks, when she attacks, and after she attacks, making it nearly impossible for most people to evade. Also as Isane noted no Shinigami has a Shikai that doesn't change form once released.
- In regards to Gremmy killing the Captains, we saw 1st hand that the effects of his imagination can be reverted if he's not focused so it's possible that those captains' deaths are not permanent.
- A really interesting dynamic here is that Kenpachi now that he's accepted his role, is doing the same thing Unohana did for him. He's Fighting Gremmy but also teaching him how to properly enjoy battle.
- The anime cuts several reactions from both Shinigami and Quincy characters when Gremmy uses the Meteor.
- Many fans claim that Gremmy is idiotic, however, he's more so sheltered, and this is why he began to feel ecstatic by fighting for the 1st time. The idea is that despite being able to imagine nearly anything he's likely experienced very little in life from actions to even feelings.
- The scene with Kenpachi calling out his sword's name mixed with the Flashback of Yachiru not having a name is a huge in-your-face hint here which some people somehow miss.
- In regards to Gremmy's power of imagination many fans fail to understand that it has many drawbacks. The 1st is that what one can imagine is based on experience and Gremmy has lived a very confined life because it's alluded to in the manga that he's kept locked away somewhere. The 2nd is that as we saw a person's imagination can do its own thing, so if you have involuntary negative thoughts they will affect you like how Gremmy began to lose. 3rd is that it's limited to the speed of his thoughts. Lastly, it's not limitless as some claim, if he could just make anything a reality Yhwach would have told him to imagine that every soul reaper was dead, but clearly, that's not the case.

Agree with everything except the last one. As we know everything in bleach comes down to the Reiatsu amount. For Gremmy to Imagine every soul reaper dead he would need a massive amount of Reiatsu which must exceed everyone's. It's potentially possible, but realistically not and silly to help him achieve that Goal, since if Gremmy gathers that amount of Reiatsu, he simply can one tap Yhwach too...
Also him being locked up can have several reasons. 1. His power is kinda uncontrollable.
2. He is too dangerous, since that kid is just Fckdp in the brain...
3. Yhwach never wanted him to become too strong and more Humanely. Imagine instead of BazzB there was Gremmy... BazzB was willing to betray and go against Yhwach's will for Haschwalth. Hell, even Haschwalth somewhat Betrayed Yhwach at last, he was just a good guy. Basically Gremmy was locked up for most of his life, restraining his imagination(which is basically his power source) and his growth as a person. I kinda feel bad for him ngl. When he spoke to Zaraki as dying, he was just a child and didn't even look like a bad one... He was just being used and abused for every second of his life...

The last point was that His ability isn't limitless, your point provides a direct understanding of why. @@AnubisVoid yeah, ill clarify. Gremmy's Ability is limitless, but Gremmy doesn't possess such "Power" to utilize it to maximum. That's the thing, I guess. Ability itself utilized at its finest can do basically anything without limitations. As many have speculated Gremmy(brain) could possibly be SK's part. That would explain much, but the CFYOW novel has some things that may contradict that theory, but it can't reject it fully.
There will be a post credit scene conversation between zaraki and gremmy
Brian brought up a rather remarkable observation that I don't see much even from ardent Bleach enthusiasts: that Gremmy's powers of imagination is indeed ridiculous, but is truly only destructive to humans (or maybe the average Shinigami). Zaraki, being the powerhouse that he is, was already probably a hundred times more durable than the average Shinigami, making him probably a thousand times more durable than humans. Add to that, after having gone through Unohana's passing-the-torch training, his durability probably went up by a 100% as well. (Using 'probably' because I'm no powerscaler and I don't wanna claim to be one either)
Well in a simpler way gremmy beat himself, kenpachi changed his mind set from I always win and always will to I'm the strongest so I have to prove it by beating the strongest. He slowly brought himself down if anything

Well all of this was already discussed when the chapter was out in japan at the Bankai team forum. the forum is still accessible, with interviews and drama surrounding this arc, and Tite Kubo being mad at fans! Even when the Unohana released her bankai, and people was wondering what it was, or even what was happening to kenpachi, u can translate and read it was blood, and kenpachi was being ended then brought back to life... So hardcore bleach fans with over 4 000 comments on there.
Well, as already stated, a battle in the Bleach universe is a battle of reiatsu. Gremmy would need to have reiatsu equal to or greater than Zaraki's to hit him directly with his powers and for them to have any effect. That's why he can't turn Zaraki's bones in to cookie.
This was shown in one of the novels. Azashiro tries to attack Zaraki from within his body, using the power of bankai, but it doesn't work because Zaraki's reiatsu was much higher.

kenpachi-yachiru, ichigo-white, stark-lilinetto couples are have special powers and relations. their soul powers are too big to control, so they share or distrubute some of their power with another living being.
yachirus zampakto is a special kind of zampakto. her power creates two creature. this creatures imitates her attacks but one creature slash before her and other creature slash after her. so enemy can't dodge her attack even if he dodge with correct timing.
The worst of all is that Gremmy fought against Kenpachi in his base form, basically Gremmy was extremely limited in that battle, he was at his limit before fighting, he couldn't use his vollstanding and it is said that he had almost all of his power sealed, he only fought with a small part of his power

@@rustageff2277 Because, combined with his immaturity, his power is the most fearsome of them all (except you know what, no spoilers) if left uncheck, in the Wandenreich he was litteraly locked up to prevent him from wrecking havoc using his power on whims (and was the only one like that despite the insane abilities from other Sternritters we've yet to seen in the anime).

@@xegin1572 It was never Soul King's brain. I wish people stop with this baseless speculation when the novel literally stated that it's not true whatsoever. Only his Visionary power could imitate the level of Soul King's power but it was never Soul King's brain to begin with.
You have to think about the following about Gremmy's power: everything has a limit, a limit of space and reach, a limit of time and energy spent by it, a limit of battle experience. He does what he can, so much so that the more of him there are, the more power he has, 2= meteor, 6= outer space, showing that his power is very limited and his energy.
Thank you!!! Most people actually end up missing this. If his power was limitless (or rather, if he was limitless) than he wouldn't need to make duplicates to power up. But he did. And they had a limit of capability as well. It's not that difficult to figure this out I feel, but ppl often misinterpret a lot when they're not spoon-fed it

In theory one could use the Visonary to get around the weaknesses. You could imagine that you can’t be affected by this power in a negative way or rewire your brain to prevent yourself from having negative thoughts.
You can try to imagine it all you want but you cannot force yourself to imagine something as true if subconsciously you don't know how to get there
Gremmy imagined that Kenpachi is ridiculously strong… well… he is… but he didn't think that he could beat him.
Thats not why he died. He imagined a himself to be much stronger, stronger than kenpachi, but gremmy's body couldnt withstand this power. Thats the reason why he died

Towards the end, he didn't imagine himself dying. He imagined Zaraki as monstrous beyond him. It's what he said himself.
According to Ishhin, a captain class Shinigami can control the size of their Zanpakuto. Also he said the size of a Zanpakuto doesn't mirror/reflect the amount of spiritual pressure of the wielder.
But I'm not sure if he just talking about the regular zanpakuto state (pre-shikai) or in Shikai or even Bankai too
Not every shikai grows in size.. haineko turns to dust, byakuya's senbonzakura turns into pettles,.. so it's clear Isshin was only talking about the non-released version of a zanpakutou.
To think Kenpachi easily destroyed a meteor that would’ve wiped out the Sereitei with his eyepatch on and with a Shikai nonetheless. I can only imagine what he would be capable of if he had a Bankai. 😨

Gremmy not using the Visonary to not just affect Kenpachi directly like he did Yachiru can be one of 3 reasons:
1. Gremmy can’t affect someone’s body directly if they have higher Spiritual Pressure.
2. Gremmy wanted to crush him with overwhelming force rather than taking the easy way out.
3. Gremmy unintentionally imagined Kenpachi to be stronger than he actually was.
The truth is there is no actual confirmation as to why Gremmy didn’t do that so all we have left is speculation. I wish the anime expanded on this fight to better explain the exact limitations on the Visionary because for the most part they are still unclear.

IMO the reasoning why Gremmy did not do such things is simply b/c he is bound by the limitations of being a Quincy. At the end of the day, his imagination has to utilize reishi to make his imaginations take form or take place.
At the end of the day, the visionary power is just another way of utilizing quincy reishi control rather than an Omnipotence power.
In the mangá the king of the quincies says that even If they feed of reishi , people with a Lot of reishi os hard for quincies to kill , that why Aizen even sealed os a treath , Aizen hás the biggest energia in the verse

A great scene left out of the Manga shows the other high level Sternreitters running away because the meteor would kill them. Literally all of the other sternreitter were scared of Gremmy and he was kept locked away.
One thing that should be brought up is that for Gremmy to use the visionary he actually has to visualize these things happening in detail and believe that they will happen which is not easy when a beast like Kenpachi is slicing you up at ridiculous speeds. Let alone the fact that this ability requiring visualizing crap is quite difficult when you need to do it in detail. You can't just say all that person's bones are cookies as though the power will follow your word's intent alone, you have to see it in your minds eye with detail.
The size of his shikai isn’t because of his spiritual pressure, that’s just what it looks like.

The Visionary is a wild power, up there with turbo-Aizen and Yhwach himself, I think the way they've balanced it is that Kubo said Gremmy is just a hyped kid in a candy store, pretty much unaware that his mind and body isn't really opted for wielding his power, but if he'd been more mature and knowledgeable he could have used it way better. It is an OP ability
Power of Imagination vs Power of a CHAD
Gremmy tried to imagine himself as an "unstoppable monster" like Kenpachi, but because he couldn't fathom Kenpachi's power, his imagination kept boosting his power to try and match the monster he envisioned until his body couldn't handle it and broke down.

His power "V" The Visionary is LITERALLY the 2nd strongest ability in the world of Bleach.
And here is something that many ppl don't know.
Gremmy was so strong that Yuha, the king himself had to put him in jail and be locked up for who knows how many thousands of years.
He's so powerful that his boast of saying that he's the strongest quincy outside the king is true.
His dawnfall is that he lacks true imagination, true battle experience. Like he said, since he is so strong he doesn't need to fight like others do, he just imagines it and poof...
The stark difference between Gremmy, the "strongest quincy" and Kenpachi, the "strongest shinigami" is that, yes, both are extremely strong but in different ways.
Kenpachi goades Gremmy to fight hand to hand or whatever bcz that's what he does, which is the opposite of Gremmy
That's why he lost. And Kenpachi said that Gremmy came into this battle knowing that Kenpachi is this great, whole nother lvl guy. So his powers matched. When Gremmy tried to imagine Kenpachi's powers onto himself, his body could just not hold it and it self distructed.
But, what stopped him from creating a new body and keep going?
Kubo stopped him bcz he just fumbled with this character. He created a character so powerful that he didn't knew how to kill him, and at the same time he needed to make Kenpachi's return something out of this world. So he did this, how can one show his powers, but by deafeating someone who controls reality...

Just to clear it up for you guys and anyone confused by it:
Gremmy failed to become as strong as Kenpachi most likely due to reiatsu differential. He says his body couldn't handle Kenpachi's power. The right phrasing would be "My being failed to achieve the same level of reiatsu and physical strength".

Gremmy's power is misunderstood greatly. Whilst Visionary makes him the most versatile and arguably most hax-y Stern Ritter, he has one fatal flaw. His own limits.
See Hax in Bleach isn't an end all be all thing. Reiatsu can affect the outcome of the results. How effective something is.
Most make the wrong assumption, that Gremmy is literally limitless because he's a reality warper and manipulator. That's only half the story. If he had infinite strength, he wouldn't need duplicates to increase his power. Nor would he need to imagine himself becoming as strong as Kenpachi. He could just imagine unlimited power. He could restructure his brain to have to be able to imagine that kinda power. His IQ wasn't the reason he lost (debatable but yeah). It's that he simply wasn't as mighty as Kenpachi.
It's also the reason he didn't just turn Kenpachi into dust or something from the get go. Or once he realised his usual moves can't defeat him.
It was a push and pull of reiatsus and he lost that. It's as simple as
Gremy's ability was so O.P. But unlike Aizen and Urahara, his Intelligence isn't as good as them. He doesnt even have Plan B or Plan C. I wish that ability went to Aizen tbh
What you have to realize here is that no matter how crazy your hax ability is, it cannot affect people who have higher Reisatsu than you. So Gremmy's imagination cannot affect Kenpachi directly.

Most people don't understand that gremmy's imagination was limited , for summoning a meteorite he made his double , for creating space he made 8 clones but still kenpachi cut it with his eye patch on and shikai , gremmy would have to make atleast 1000 of more clones to enhance his imagination power to kill kenpachi , but he chose to become as powerful as kenpachi, but his imagined body cannot hold that much power .😅😅

Its not that he couldnt beat kenpachi, its just his body couldnt match or be stronger than what he imagined kenny being. So he died by his own power
Gremmy is powerful but he is a idiot sadly and he may have the power of imagination but it's not the level of someone like the Beyonder (pre retcon verison) for example because gremmy's power has limitations and can be countered like shown by Kenpachi or someone with more spiritual pressure/reitsu or a more powerful abilities like The Al--. I am not finishing that.

More specifically, he imagined Kenpachi as this unsurmountable monster beyond his imagination. He was trying to imagine an abstract concept that even he did not comprehend, so his ability turned on him.
Yhwach limited Gremmy's imagination by sealing him away. He was nerfed in this battle if you guys noticed he didn't transform like other Quincys the reason is he's immature and he's power is terrifying. He could be a threat to Yhwach himself.

I remember not liking this fight and just being so confuse when I first read this in manga I had so many questions why gremmy didnt just imagine this that and how did he really die . Most of the discussion about this are just speculations really and him imagining that he is stronger than kenpachi but his body cant handle that power is what makes sense to me the most. Even kepanchi's body cant handle his bankai, his bankai strength is too strong that he loses his arm. And this is kenpachi, one of if not the most durable character in bleach. If his body cant handle his power I dont think little gremmy can. This is my canon

There are very very few things that can defeat that in which the visionary cannot do b/c Gremmy cannot just outright delete a being that he did not create out of existence.
Think about how they are showing the power of the Antithesis. There is a chance we may see it defeat a "multi-dimension power level" domain expansion.
