The West End is where it's at. Isthmus Cove, Cherry Cove, Fourth-of-July Cove. Or better yet, around the other side to Catalina "Cat" Harbor (the counterpart across the isthmus). It's really sheltered, good holding and not near as touristy. You know--quiet.
We were bummed we couldn’t see more of the island by boat but the weather during our short time there didn’t allow it. We still loved our visit though!
Already saw the beginning videos and how unsure you were if you were making a mistake but from seeing the latest videos I don't think you are feeling sad from abandoning the house, you guys seem to be enjoying it. I can't wait for my day, hopefully next year I can go for my big sailboat, currently learning and practicing on my Precision 21' sailboat
I hope you get to go out soon too! We are very much enjoying it- hope to be out here for as long as we can!
Lovely video as always taylor - nice to see Catalina and looking forward to your southerly travels
Thanks Mik !
Awesome! Looking forward to your next episode.
Ahhhhh… Catalina! Beautiful episode… Fair winds, Viā… from HB,CA ♥️✌🏼⛵️
Great video in my sailing area. I could share a few tales and interesting experiences on those mooring balls when it’s packed with boats and the wind is blowing you sideways. Ha ha. To bad you didn’t have time to explore the back side of the Island. It’s quite beautiful and more like what your doing now.
We were bummed to miss the rest of the island, but we had a great time in Avalon. It's so cool to be able to sail out of the big city and end up in a place like that!
@@MakingOurWay if you make it back to LA to visit family during the BC hurricane season, contact me for a possible trip to Catalina.
Well what a nice suprize - stumbling upon your channel. Wonderful to see you guys and looking forward to following - literally. Hey I saw my boat in the background in Episode 4 - should I expect a royalty check? ;-) Cheers Mike and Taylor.
Ahhh Haha what a fun message to receive! And yes a big check is on its way to you! 😆 hope you guys are doing well up there!
Great video. My wife and I are sailing to Catalina this summer. Very curious about how to do the mooring and also the dingy process. Neither of us which you filmed :(
Thanks for watching
Go to “How to pickup a mooring at Catalina Island” on RUclips. Always ask the Harbor patrol if you think you will need help to guide you. If they are not super busy, they are very helpful. Best to go to Avalon during mid week. Not as busy and better chance to get a mooring that is first come first serve. Mooring balls are privately owned and you can be moved or asked to leave with 24 hr notice. Look up Hen Rock in Whites cove. It’s my favorite Anchorage and has plenty of room if you can’t get into Avalon. It’s about 2 1/2 miles from Avalon.
There are 2 videos marked as Episode 40. There is no 39
Good day… please let me know your sailing experience before you started your adventure
Thank you stay safe
We had zero off shore experience. We chartered in the Med for a week once, and we owned a little trailer-sailer for about a year we took out on Puget sound before getting this one.
first :)
My friend has a boat in San Diego. Soon I'll have my boat there, too. Where you headed after San Diego?
We were only there for a week before leaving to Mexico
How long did it take you to get from MdR to Avalon?
Hmm we don’t recall exactly but we got a bit of a late start and had to motor sail to keep our speed up so we could get in before dark. Maybe 5-6 hours?
@@MakingOurWay Thanks! I just discovered you channel and absolutely LOVE IT!
Oh awesome we’re so happy to hear that!
