Correct answer. In my painfully recent experience, my previous two vans have died due to needless EU mandated technology, rendering them unusable and irreparable.
This is a TV series crying out to be made. Far better than the celebrity motorhome and canal boat guff I've seen. This has classic British humour, bad DIY, interesting characters of the road, plus a good dose of resilience in the face of what most people would see as disaster. I also own an old motorhome with a Talbot engine that breaks down every time I use it, so I feel your pain.... although weirdly you don't seem to feel any pain.
Tim you weren’t in when I left the park up so I couldn’t say bye, I’m away to North Yorkshire now until it’s time to leave for the winter. Was great meeting you, good luck with van life in the future and the conversion of the mansion 👍🏻

Nice of the lady to help, I think you now need some more wonderful people to come and help you seal and rebuild your walls and floor. Don’t take this the wrong way but I don’t think your practical skills are your strength. With help you could bring the old girl back. I mean I would, but sure I’m in Ulster and too far away.😉Also think I would give up too easy 🤣 this project needs a team❤️
So you will sort the leak. Then a big blank canvas. Then we hopefully will see a rebuild to better suit the great climate we live in. Looking forward to the rebuild
you vould make that a realy cool rustic van...bnq tongue n groove, and its reasonably pticed plus you dont realy need carpentry skills, if you go rustic..best of luck with your project.
I know it would be a bit more expensive but would you not carefully take out all the units and completely remove all the plywood and reinsulate the whole motorhome and fix any leaks that you have, I know it would be costly but it would be worth it in the end.

There not lovingly renamed Kon-Leaky for nothing, I’ve had 3 old talbot motorhomes affordable fun!, that’s not even that bad believe it or not. Get a big tin of cromopol and get it up on that entire roof (paint mixed with fibreglass) tv Ariel entries and skylights are the issue also windows that leak, check for leaks inside when it rains and fix accordingly, no point drying anything out until your kinda sure water ingress isn’t continuing. People enjoy putting others down instead of either giving there experience of similar or just putting you down. Good luck with it. It’s gotta be about 10k a year to live in a flat so if you live in that for a year you’ve done alright ay!. Cheers
Everything you say is exactly correct. Especially the negativity of tards. Those fools don't last long in the comments. I appreciate your wisdom on the matter of waterproofing.
small vans are best for budget friendly travelling but when it comes to living in a van full time in a reasonably stationary location a large vehicle affords far more comfort and great savings. My monster green machine in my profile pic did less than 300 miles last year and passes MOT's no bother. a lot of money you can save by not handing it over to a landlord. quite a few bills don't exist too. It's those savings that allow me to travel to South East Asia for five months a year. Life is good. I hope you can do something similar in the future Reply
Good work Tim, your new home will rise from the ashes. once the damp has gone, you and your kind helpers will have fun on the rebuild. get some anti fungal paint on the walls when it dries.
MAKE👏KONTIKI👏GREAT👏AGAIN👏 Did the bolts just pop out of the door frame? They're usually just 5mm or 6mm bolts you can buy in any DIY store. If not, you could drill in some new inserts with a hex bit, then bolt it down again, or get a cheap rivnut set to rivet inserts in. Use a bit of adhesive sikaflex sealant behind it too. The issue with self tapping screws is that they can come loose after a while on the road. Insert bushes are always better on vehicles. Sikaflex works great on any roof seals too. Marine ply is always a better choice for furniture than straight ply, if you're building or ordering yourself. And it keeps the furniture weight down. Pine boards from pallets isn't too bad either. It's heavier, but still lightish, and if you have any new but damaged palletes around work, it's free wood. Just needs varnish. Ikea and prefab home furniture is tempting, but always heavy and prone to moisture. This is your biggest van tidy episode yet🫡
@@SocksWithSandals yes, that works - just make sure you'll never want to do any welding underneath. Bit of a nightmare if you ever need to reach the sills in future and you've got the body work glued down.
i think people expect you to paint over the issues and not actually address them it may look bad for now but it needs to be stripped back to rebuild , and end of the day passed mot it will be a right good livable space once done , and keeps you busy , you can make it exactly how you want , like rotten metal you need to remove the bad stuff and make it look worse before you can fix it back up
Unladen weight, how much the van weighs empty. Laden weight, fully loaded including driver and passengers. G.T.W = Gross train weight, how much the van and trailer can weigh fully loaded.
