tony drago looks like you! only big vertion.
could you do a video of Baki's training, how real it is?
In real life wasnt it Dolph Lundgren that knocked out stallone to the hospital
I dont know if you have done this before, but I think you should try VR boxing and maybe do a reaction/review on it. A vr game which have got a lot of praise from other martial arts youtubers is (The thrill of the fight ).
Big Fan of you Tony! I just started boxing any advice you would give to a beginner boxer like me?
Dolph's physique in this movie is pure art. The square shoulders, the V taper of his torso.
That scene where he appears out of the smoke is jaw-dropping.
Sure❤❤❤❤❤
You all sound gay, but agreed it was pretty bad ass
Dolph Lundgren lookin like an Arno Breker sculpture
I could look at him for hours
What are your thoughts on Rocky’s “blocking hits with his face” strategy?
He won the fight. Solid strategy 👌

"Sparring's not for knocking people out, it's for learning....but this guy doesn't give a shit" 😂😂😂
I’ve always suspected that us heavyweights needed to be trained differently from the other weight divisions just because of the sheer stresses a lot of the exercises put on our frames. Puts us at higher risk of injury than the lighter divisions. Thanks for clarifying that one and saying it out loud. I was on the verge of going crazy.
Even push ups can be considered a power exercise - when it comes to heavyweights. Tyson Fury did away with some of the bodyweight exercises a long time ago - but then he's 6-9 and 270 Ibs.
Lose weight
@@mathewstovell5167 Body weight is body weight. If you are bigger you should be that much stronger.
@@JK-vc7ie it doesn’t work like that. And that’s part of what makes it confusing when you’re trying to figure out what does work for you and what doesn’t as a heavyweight.
@@CousinJesse1 That's exactly how it works. That's the beauty of bodyweight exercises. Bodyweight works for all humans. If you struggle with basic bodyweight exercises like pushups and pullups you are either too weak or too fat. I'm not trying to be confrontational. That's just how it is. For example, they don't have special "weight categories" for standards in the military or special operations within the military. The reality is that people who call themselves "heavy weights" actually weigh too much for their height, thus making bodyweight exercises harder.
Bigger guys in the Navy SEALS or Army Rangers or Army SF crank out pullups, air squats, push ups, etc. They don't get any slack for being "bigger".
Please more videos like this :) It's awesome to learn from an actual pro about what's real and what's not
Let me know if you got any movie suggestion that I should review mate 👊
@@Tony_Jeffries There are the training scenes from Creed and Southpaw... I would love to see a breakdown of the techniques of training and the advices that the coaches give in these movies

Man, looking his training and knowing something about URSS, Drago wasn't a mere fighter, but a scientific experiment! Probabily, the idea of put so much science and statistics on his training to optimize and make Drago reach beyond even the human limits were to put this on other sports, and, mabe, soldiers. You can see that Rocky was a fighter from himself, when Drago were a national fighter from URSS. Man, Rocky fought against a real blend of human strenght and scientific knowledge...was almost the perfect fighter!
He basically is trained with human element removed. Efficient and soulless machine. Narratively very impressive.
That's not possible in real life
He's literally captain america

From what I gathered from this scene where they cut between Drago's and Rocky's training methods is they are the same but with different equipment this is an amazing scene and one hell of a good break down
Yea I noticed that everything Rocky was doing Drago was doing but with advanced technology for the 80s.
@@zpxf7422 but in reality Ivan would train like rocky did in the movie in the Russian nature and rocky as an american would train like ivan in the film with modern technologies
@@pppppp1q3 exactly! If you actually watch an interview from any of the Soviet athletes who competed in the Olympics from the 70s or 80s, they will tell you that their training equipment was very similar to what rocky was using, they never had access to the high tech equipment that Drago used
@@matthewbryan-taff1306 on top of that, in real life, Drago would be kicked of the boxing program unsportman behavior. Possibly even put in prison for man slaughter.
Ivan Drago, aka, Dolph Lundgren, has a 3rd Dan black belt in Karate, so punching isn't new to him, neither was the core training. In an interview the director said that Stallone asked Dolph to use real force in their ring training. The result was they had to stop filming for 2 weeks after Dolph broke Stallone's jaw with a punch.
No it wasn't a broken jaw, it was Stallone's heart that got swollen from a punch to the ribcage. Damage similar of getting hit by a truck. Lundgren's punch and kicking power is the real deal.
@@danfors1333 I stand corrected !!
Dolph Lundgren and Sylvester Stallone were training and Stallone decided he wanted to hit each other for real and had Lundgren hit him harder and when Lundgren threw a punch it landed at stallones chest and hit so hard it caused his heart bounce against chest plate. Not long after Stallone collapsed in as felt winded and in pain and walked out of training area and things got worse and had to air lifted for surgery as his heart swelled up causing pain nearly died. Lundgren was worried that going to be fired as Stallone was the one who picked him for the role of Drago and Stallone did recover and told Lundgren that he got the role.
Kyokushin Karate to be more specific. Kyokushin is a full contact with no pads/gloves style. Kyokushin techniques are widely used in MMA. It is a very legit style and Dolph was a very high level fighter in the style.
@@robertarcher4308 yes, he was 2 time European heavyweight full-contact champ and 1 time Australian champ and Swedish champ. But biggest accomplishment is he survived 4 years with Grace Jones without getting killed thanks to his durability from karate.
The training looks cool but Dolph Lundgren is probably a robot or was probably grown in a lab, 6'4" a genius who studied chemical engineering on a scholarship and a world full contact karate champion. Apparently he punched Stallone once during filming and put Sly in hospital.
And interesting fact: Stallone never actually managed to be a heavyweight for boxing. The most he reached was a Cruiserweight. Lungdren actually reached the Heavyweight.
EDIT: Stallone is 175cm.
That's not even the best part.
Dolph hit Stallone so hard that his insurance wasn't going to cover for him because they were convinced that the injuries could only come from being hit by a bus or truck
Honestly if Dolph was the product of some old Nazi experiment I would not be surprised.
He is an example of swedish viking DNA
Dolph was a champion kyokushin fighter, he was so tough he had to borrow his friend's blackbelt and entered a national tournament while still being a greenbelt.
The Rocky 4 training montage is hugely underated!!!
What do you mean by underrated? People overuse that word all the time in the comment section.
Just by watching Rocky when I was younger I felt double tough 😂

Dear Tony Jeffries, the exercise at minute 2:57 is not a biceps exercise, it's definitely a triceps exercise. However, I would like to thank you very much for this material about Ivan Drago who is my favorite, idol and inspiration to practice martial arts (Dolph Lundgren) next to the great legend Bruce Lee. Regards.
yeah that's what I thought also
Went to find this comment before I posted the same
it looks like he is struggling when he is pulling on the machine so this is biceps
Also the Power Clean at 2:05 goes to the shoulders, a Clean and Press is when the bar goes to the shoulders and then overhead
Its an isolated hammer curl and its for biceps and brachioradialis
one of the best movie sequels of all time, please do more of these! 🎉
Glad you like it mate! Let me know if you got any movie in mind aside from the ROcky series
Thanks for your videos.I am 16 years old and started boxing a month ago and your videos really helps me.I’m waiting for your new videos
Good luck and godspeed hands to you!
Amazing! Keep it up 🥊
This was a great breakdown, Drago is my favorite boxing bad guy...
Brilliant video. Well done Tony!
Really enjoyed this breakdown I always wondered just what Ivan Drago was doing and now I know thanks Tony
Entertaining video. I think the barbell lifts Ivan are doing are the Power Clean and the "Power Clean and Press". When he presses it overhead it becomes a power clean and press. The difference between a regular clean and a power clean is the depth of the squat. In the olympic clean you rotate under the bar and go to a full front squat. With a power clean the bar is caught in a quarter-to-half-squat position.
the 'shoulder press' part of the exercise he's doing.... wow.... if those are 20kg plates and I counted correctly, he's pressing well over 200-220kg... that's WSM-level, isn't it? Especially as a static press without legs helping, that would be most impressive!
Came here to see if anyone mentioned this. What makes it a power clean is that you catch it on your shoulders in a standing position instead of letting the squat absorb the force.
Jackie Chan's training montage is always gonna be my personal favourite to watch. But as always thank you for your time and effort. great content 👍
El realismo no importa , lo que importa es lo épico que es
Hello Mr. Jeffries, really great video, the machine at 3'34 is used to strengthen the back muscles in boxers it's important while imitating the dodging movement and at 4'32 the device on his head to measure stimulation cerebral during exercise, here is my opinion and look forward to the next video
This was really informative. I love it!
Dolph actually sent Sylvester to the hospital. When they were filming the final boxing scenes Sylvester told Dolph to actually hit him. So for the first few minutes of the scene they were actually teeing off on each other. Dolph hit him so hard in the chest it cause him to have an irregular heart beat. So the part about him destroying whatever he punches...yeah.
I think that didnt really happen, it is just a marketing story made up to promote the movie.
@@andyusfca Sylvester talks about it in interviews as does Dolph.
@@andyusfcaNah, Sly was too much of an egomaniac. He'd never tell the public he got put in the hospital if it didn't really happen.
Will you do a video breaking down Rocky's training methods in Rocky 4 as well?

Great video Tony!!! Really interesting and funny! The key is LOW IMPACT!!

Thank you for such a great commentary video.
I think the sensors on his head could be used to measure body temperature. Which in turn could be used in a calculation to find his metabolic rate, and calories needs. That’s just my guess though.
I don't think it is realistically measuring anything. It's something scientific looking for the movie, because it then shows a graph that goes from -100 to 100 and says left hemi and right hemi and it is widely fluctuating in the space of 1 second.
@@juandenz2008 Agree that it is mostly for the movie. There are techniques like that for measuring the effects of sport on brain hemisphere activity, but it is usually used to assess the benefits of sport for brain activity, not the other way around.
@@juandenz2008 You use your left hemi to move your right extremities, and your right hemi to move your left extremities. So maybe that machine was measuring the time response between the brain and the movement and if both sides where equal.
Love your content mate. Not a boxer I do jiujitsu, kickboxing bit of Krav maga but your content is awesome.Massive respect
I heard if you consider the gloves Ivan Drago was wearing cushioning the blow for that 1850 psi result his punch is actually over 4 tons of force
Which would've easily shattered every bone in his arm.
@@leestewart72 That's why boxers wear gloves...
Technically its 2150 PSI.
@@v4v819
The glove isn't going to absorb nearly enough of the force. His arm is fraked.

Hey Tony I know this a strange request but could you do a break down on how some UFC fighters like Izzy and some others can be off balance and still throw hard knock out punches. Or maybe you've already done one and I haven't found it yet. I know it has alot to do with talent but would love to hear your expert take on it. I love your content.
Wladimir Klitschko is the closest real fighter to Drago.
Freddie Roach said he hit harder than Tyson, but what impressed him most was how hard he trained - Wladimir could run 12, 800m sprints all in under 3 minutes with only 1 minute rest between each sprint.
Roach said he never saw a heavyweight come anywhere close to doing something like that.
Both Roach and Emmanuel Steward said Wladimir is the most athletic heavyweight they had ever seen.
Steward also said he was the most accurate single punch knockout artist ever, with the best jab, footwork and balance of any heavyweight in history.
And to remind you - Steward trained over 40 world champions during his career - including Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Hearns, Tyson Fury, Shannon Briggs, Julio Cezar Chávez, Naseem Hamed, Oliver McCall, Jermain Taylor and James Toney.
So Steward knew what he was talking about.
Hahaha Klitschkos were stiff Robots.. Running those times to stand around.
Ask Tyson Fury if you don't believe.
Myke Tyson is the closest real figther to Cluber Lang 🤣
@@Trumppower Tyson Fury hahahaha so funny. 39, and he was 41 when he fought and nearly beat AJ. If he were 34, he'd have beat Fury and smashed AJs jaw into the cheap seats. Wlad was washed up at 39 against Fury. He was really washed up at 41 when he almost beat AJ and would have if he didn't fight the most conservative match of his career. To anyone who knows what the hell they're looking at when they watch boxing, AJs fight with Wlad was really the first time he was exposed as a protected poser.
You have to mention both AJ and Fury when both men's fights with Wlad come up because Wlad was over 500 years old when he fought them both, they both got unfair credit and were overrated for the wins, and if Wlad met them when he was between 24 and 34, he'd have demolished them both.
In his prime, Wlad was a better technical boxer than Fury, and infinitely better than AJ. He was an infinitely better athlete than Fury and ten times better than AJ. He was immeasurably stronger than Fury and a hell of a lot stronger than AJ. He was light years faster than them both, and moved better than them both. Wlad had generational, all-time top 5 power that would make Wilder's right feel like a girl scout slapping you in the face.
No, Vitali was more like Drago💯
You have to love the Flux Capacitor on the treadmill.

Rocky IV was WAAAAAYYYY ahead of its time with the training and Paulie's robot.
The highest ive punched on a dynomax machine was 998 lbs of force and everything in it. Can't imagine getting to 1800+ lbs of force. I think in reality that would cause immediately joint and shoulder injuries plus bone fractures. You could kill anyone with that much power with one punch.

3:30 looks like a sort of advanced sci fi version of a torso rotation machine. Works your core pretty good
Hey Coach thanks for these amazing videos!
do you have any tips on getting stronger knuckles, without hitting a wall or injuring wrists?
thanks again!
I think the short and realistic answer (despite what people will tell you), is that you can't condition and strengthen your knuckles. If anyone would have conditioned knuckles you would think it would be boxers, pounding away on the bag all the day, in contrast a longitudinal study of the Great Britain Olympic Boxing Squad found that injuries to the hand and wrist were incredibly common.
@@juandenz2008 In my experience this is correct. The knuckles can scar over, which may help, but most 'knuckle strength' is actually wrist strength and if you want hard punching, the wrist is the first place to strengthen.
Video muito bom👏👏👏

That was a triceps machine where you said it was a bicep curl. the handles and U shaped bar give it away. I use them one after another as it is the same fulcrum, but one is Push exercise while the other is Pull.
I love the Rocky movies and I’m a huge fan of Stallone. If you are interested he has a behind the scene video editing Rocky Vs Drago directors cut on the Sly Stallone shop channel on RUclips.
It’s been interesting hearing his thoughts about making the movie then and now. Crazy how in shape he is for his age. He really does embody the mentality of Rocky.
I just love the cinematic aspect of this segment. Drago is in a highly expensive and technical gym/lab to show that he is a product that's been invested in.
While Rocky doesn't need any of the fancy stuff, his agenda is revenge and overcoming his fear and to prove himself for both him and Apollo.
He uses what is around him because it's his personal struggle that determines him. Meanwhile Drago has no personal agenda in this fight, he proved himself against Apollo this is only a second chance to show his "creators" the power of their nation and discipline, hence why all choices are made for him.
I think Sylvester also mentioned that they used a real Nasa lab for Drago's scene to really get that Sci fi feeling and honestly they succeeded.
Drago comes off as inhumane hence why the breaking point in the final scene has such a huge impact, he's not a machine, he's a man!
BERY BERY GOOOOOD!!! Excelente!!!
Never knew the speed bag was really a defensive training drill. I always thought it was trying to train hand speed.
