    The loose urban sketches are great. Trick is not to complicate it with detail, yet show interesting highlights. And I think you have it, Scottie.

    I've followed Albert for years. I purchased his course the second I saw that he released it. He is indeed a great artist/sketcher. I love it how a good artist (you) can watch a tutorial once or twice and improve immediately. just goes to show that learning 1 type of art will definitely help with other types. Love the way your sketch turned out. :)

    • @SketchingScottie
      @SketchingScottie  2 года назад +2

      that’s good to hear you’re a big fan too! How did you go with the course? Have you had time to complete the final project?
      Thanks so much for the positive feedback too 😊. Yes it’s interesting how different types of art can support each other. I’ve even been trying my old black pencils today and can see how using ink pens for a while can change the way I sketch with pencils!

      @@SketchingScottie I have not done his final project. I've been urban sketching for about 3 years. So i've developed my own style. I do incorporate some of alberts sketching techniques into my sketches. but I do try to make it my own. I mostly watch his course for the marker coloring techniques. markers have a very unique look compared to watercolor. So thats what I am mostly trying to incorporate into my sketches right now. I love to sketch in pencil but I also love to sketch with ink. and the same happens to me.. when I go back to the other.. I notice that things look different in a good way. 1 helps the other.. and vise versa. :)

    So I had to comment. Im a new artist of 7 months, and i wanted to get into urban sketching. Ive been following your channel since i started drawing. I had never heard of domestika. But the course looked super interesting. So i bought it. I just finished the course tonight. And then i re watched this video afterward. So, ive ordered some markers and a white marker and im going to draw one house a day for at least 30 days. Im looking forward to learning and developing my own style. Thanks for all you do. Rather than markers, I use an inexpensive set of pan watercolors (my artist grade watercolors are too intense for this), and I apply with a water brush. The water brush allows me to apply a thin layer of color without putting too much water on the page.

    I just took Albert's class. I've always had trouble 'sketching' my drawings and wanting them to look like Escher.....and mine never did. After taking Albert's class, I learned that although Escher was an influence on my boyhood art, it never was my style. I found the loose style to finally come into what I really wanted to do. it was also my first time with alcohol markers, and I can say, I really like the medium! Now my style is much more loose, and I have a friend that is an outstanding photographer, so I have a ton of reference material that I'm allowed to use! I found that the markers allowed me the watercolor look, with the control of a pen. I do recommend the course.

      @@SketchingScottie I took the course, liked the sketching part. I could not wrap my head around using coloured markers...After 11 years of working with watercolour. I find with watercolour I can easily create the colours used in the course with a bit of testing and not having to pay out soo much $$$ for so many Copic markers.
      I did like your example, though, I prefer watching the artist do the art, rather than watching their face while they explain what is on the page.
      thks for this Scotty, am loving your videos. Looking at your Patreon site too.
      Just curious, how much did you spend on Copic markers? I see 9 in your video. Copic markers are $9 Cdn without tax. That's almost $100 here in Canada.

    • @SketchingScottie
      @SketchingScottie  2 года назад +1

      Yes I know what you mean! I wasn't sure about using markers at first but I've come around a bit since completing the course. I found they blended much better on Moleskine paper rather than normal drawing paper. Yes I've spent too much on copic markers haha! I actually used some Aldi markers in this video as well which only cost about $1AU but all the other copic markers cost about $9-$12AU each. I'm now leaning towards watercolours as I really love very light washes over my line work. 👍🏼

      🙏🏼 🤗 many thanks! Yes that's what I thought when I saw Albert's work too! Actually I think part of the watercolor look comes from the Moleskine Art sketchbook as the edges of the marker lines fade into the page a bit and is held nicely by the paper (stayed wet). When I layered different colored markers on top it mixed well. I usually get that streaky marker look on my other paper which I don't like 😂. All the best!

    I purchased his course after watching this video. Got myself some cheap alcohol markers from Kmart which work surprisingly well. Completed my first project today, but still have a long way to go 😅

      That’s great to hear CJ! yes cheap markers like that seem to work really well still. I think the paper that he uses, Moleskine, are more important than the Copic markers if you want to invest any more :)

    I did this course and it was a lot of fun. I used what markers I had, but I would like to try lighter and darker of same colors. Nice job you did!

      Thanks Susanne! Great to hear you did the course too! Glad you enjoyed it👍🏼.
      I know what you mean with the markers! I just managed to find enough light coloured markers here but would love to buy a few more as it gives a nicer, almost watercolour look.

    Thank you for reviewing the course . I love his work and I think I need to do the course . Never used markers like that only years ago fibre tip pens that I wrecked so fast 😂

      @@SketchingScottie i bought some . Enjoying playing with them . They are so different from watercolour and I have to stop myself reaching for my watercolours 🤣 I will get the hang of these new markera... I will 😂🙈. I love the new sakura fine liners and a sketchbook . Never used them and I bought their little black one to play with the white marker . I used to do lots if white marker and I have some lovely derwent metallic tints . I need more hours to play 🤣

    I love your sketch! I really love Alberts work and I am also taking his course. So far I’m not able to break out of trying to make the perfect line and draw what I am seeing instead of what could be. You did a great job with your sketchy lines! Not sure on the markers. I like the colors they make but I haven’t got the hang of using them yet.

    • @SketchingScottie

      Thanks Connie! Yes the line work is the key to getting that loose look. Maybe try some cheaper paper and have some rough/crazy attempts. All the best 🙌🏼

    Great video Scottie! I've been wanting to urban sketch but was worried about perspective, then I worried the markers would be streaky 🤣 No more worries! Thx for sharing.

      Thanks Colleen! The Moleskine paper definitely helps with less streaking using markers👍🏼
