  • Coloring can be overwhelming! Especially when you have dozens and dozens of colors to choose from. In this video I show you that even with a very limited palette, and some knowledge of light and dark, you can color your work very effectively and conjure up a mood.
    If you want to follow along, head on over to Gumroad. There you can download the colored example, the annotated image and the line art for a small fee...

    Excellent, excellent. I used to watch a RUclips watercolor artist years ago make the most beautiful paintings using only 2 colors...Payne's Gray and Burnt Sienna. The objective of her work was mastering TONAL values and not focusing so much on color which can apply to any medium. Your Domestika course was excellent and I enjoyed it very much.

    Hi Albert, Panting with a limited palette is always a challenge! The explanation going layer by layer on how and were, in the drawing, to use the colors makes it easier to understand how to define, in a line drawing, light and shadow (especially when doing it from a photo that is not well lit). This is a very helpful explanation! Thank you so much for this video! 😁

      You're welcome!! In this case the light in the original photograph is totally different. But this shows you how to really hold the sketch to your own personal preference!

      You're welcome! I painted this with five colors for some mood. To give a sketch depth, you would even be able to do that successfully with one! I'm going to show that too!

    That’s a training session that’s meets my perfection expectatio 10:38 ! Since your fantastically well done Domestika presentation I have been wondering how to use a basic color scheme. And you have ANSWER my question. One more color exercise would be appreciated in any platform you prefer. Many thanks from one of your followers.

    Thank you so much for this video - it is a very timely arrival for me! I recently completed your doméstica course, which greatly improved the “looseness” of my sketches and introduced me to the use of marker colors. I have recently ruined a few good sketches by allowing them to become “muddy” and over-done. I’ll be sure to try the download and practice the techniques shared here!

      Super!! It might be a good idea, if you have access, to scan your line art and print that out (laser) and do color studies there. But that's also why I make these ones available as training material!

      Great to hear Veronique! Always try and look for these 'shards' of light or gaps in the strokes. They can really help seeing a sketch alive!

    Great video Sensei A! I think this is exactly what I need to do to improve the enjoyment of my sketches, pick out a small palette with the end game in mind then add more colour after if need be. It will help with speed and looseness. Also, this video is great because it illustrates how you tackle those angled lines in the beginning, they feel a lot more risky later in the sketch. All the best, J

    This sketch came to life before my eyes! I appreciate you keeping it simple with 5 colors. You mentioned downloading the sketch so we can practice colors. Where do I find it? I have such a problem with perspective, I wish there was a way to trace my photos of houses and go from there. There must be a way!

    • @housesketcher
      @housesketcher  11 месяцев назад +1

      I will try and make a short clip on perspective! Here's the link to the line art and color chart for this specific sketch:
      housesketcher.gumroad.com/l/coloring_set_007
      It's a €2 download that you can print out for coloring.

    Is this a set of colours? or individual colours?
    I downloaded a sketch of yours and it had SO MANY colours in it Too many for me as beginner I did your course but need to keep colours simple

    • @housesketcher
      @housesketcher  11 месяцев назад +1

      These colors are available from stores separately. I kept the colors for this sketch to an acceptable five. You might want to look at alternatives like the OHUHU brand. The things to look for are a light, medium and darker shade (like the grey-greens in this clip) and one or two 'contrasting' colors like my warm earth color and the cool, desaturated blue...

  • @viridian4388
    @viridian4388 5 месяцев назад +1

    First of all, you are very talented, and your artworks are beautiful!
    Second, unfortunately the art you are making is just about 1/6th of the entire video, so it is hard to see what you are doing. Not everybody has a large screen, so zooming in a bit would help.
    Furthermore, I completely understand, some people do these weird motions with their hands when they are planning out where to draw the actual lines, but it is also very, very distracting. Especially when not zoomed in.
    I'm trying to follow along, and see what you are doing, but it is hard because not only is the artwork a very tiny piece on my screen, but you are also doing the extra movements that don't actually produce a line and it is just very hard to follow along and see what you are doing.
    Unless of course it is planned that way, and entirely intentional. Then disregard all I've said and carry on! Nobody has to share their secrets on RUclips for free.

      Thanks flirt your comments! I have addressed the size issue in later videos. This one was not about sketching but about the coloring process. Have a look at my latest video where both sketching and coloring is covered. It's sped up because a forty minute video is a bit slow 😊
