I finished watching his course but couldn’t really understand the key aspects that I wanted to learn, which are the sketch and wash. It felt too complicated and sophisticated and I wished he gave more tips and instructions on these areas. However, your review and summary has helped me and inspired me to give it another go, and I think I will follow your version as it is easier to follow than his! I guess I needed a more dumbed down version. Thanks!

Thanks - great overview! Your example’s of Alex’s work seem to show a very strong influence of Alvaro Castagnet on his work. Especially with his treatment of buildings, melting shadows, spidery loose line work, and the use of opaque watercolours; even Castagnet’s signature red is present. Perhaps Castagnet was a mentor or tutor?

at 0:54 the painting in the bottom right - the girl with the dress being blown by the wind...that is also on the cover of Rush's album Permanent Waves, which is fantastic album cover art imho. I've seen the reference photograph of this woman as well. Anyway, just something that caught my eye.

Thank for for doing these course reviews...i love the different styles people to. When i sketch, i find i do more of a drawing and try to look exact and it is always less than good. Then i add paint and it further displays the beginner level and frustrates me more...i feel like i should be so much better than i am...lol..i try and try and yet...so i bought the better ink pens, sketch book and sill get some basic colors in the two shades soon to start or at least add some light wash....in the mean time i sill try some of these that you did too.l.you made great strides.lli hope to do the same. Thank you. Tom
