  • After finding that water had been getting in around the extractor fan where the sealant had failed, this is my attempt to repair the damage. Please don’t take it as gospel, it’s just a bit of fun working on our van project. Please like, share and subscribe thanks.

    A great watch, caravan damp is the thing of nightmares. I have always thought there must be a way to build in basic damp/water ingress metres at the manufacturing stage and them being activated through the caravans electrical system. I had bad damp in a Swift and very early stage in an Adria, the Swift was 10 years old the Adria 4. Both were indistinguishable from new. The Swift turned out to be a basket case the Adria repaired under warranty.

    Thanks for the vid! Discovered a section of damp floor and some walls in ours last weekend so going to have a go at sorting it out, albeit a little overwhelmed. Just wondering with the floor, did you just screw in to the insulation or are there batons to screw in to? Thanks

    I feel sure that if caravan makers painted the ply it would not soak up any damp. My caravan is really rotten

      Hi and thanks for the comment. Yeah update coming soon. I took off the aluminium frame and door off the van and refitted with new sealant (sikaflex) and fitted a new door rubber. Can’t wait to get away in it next month. Going to Loch Ness.

    Thanks for the video. Did you find where the water was coming in from? We've just bought a doer upper, a bit newer than yours as it has a flat roof. Water has gotten in somehow as the front ceiling is a bit saggy and the wall next to the door has gone exactly like yours. The door frame at the bottom of the wall has actually come away from the floor slightly. I had a quick look on the roof and it is perfect, so must be seals around the aerial and roof-lights I suppose. More investigating tomorrow.

      Thanks for the comment. Yeah Found it to be coming in at the extractor fan vent and outside light. Yeah sounds like you’re is similar to ours. Have you started it yet? Good luck with it. You’ll enjoy it. Keep me updated. Thanks for watching.

      Roof lights,chimneys and windows to some extent are the main offenders.Where there is a opening water will find it and attack.Re=seal as much as you can even unsuspected areas.Good luck

      It's a clean van for the age, and if it brings a family joy and the chance to get up and go then of course it's worth it. These older van are much better built than the modern ones and that's a fact!

    • @SISU889
      @SISU889 3 года назад

      @@TheOldRogue Disagree there mate ! That is one shoddily built caravan from the start . Modern caravans are sealed far superiorly than the old vans , the sealastic they used then , after a while hardens up and leaks . There seems to be lack of floor support rails on the floor , hence the de-laminating after a few years of been walked over , the walking action compresses the foam under the ply

    • @TheConverter330
      @TheConverter330 Год назад

      @@SISU889 Disagree there mate ! you might think that modern caravans are sealed better but they are not.Even the best of materials have a life span and sealants will eventually fail after time.Cant comment on the floor supports as I have a motorhome and have no such problems.
