Actually, that would be interesting! Also, I can't remember if you addressed it in your India vlogs, but I'd be super interested in the history of attaras and their modern influence. I find good ones hard to come by nowadays!
I'll look into it! It's funny that you mention that because one of my favorite scents is a rose attar I got as a gift. Some of the oil ends up on the neck of the bottle and in the summer, the heat of the house makes the room smell of roses 💗💗💗 When my 5-year-old nephew visits he gets into my attars and denies it -- though it's pretty obvious, he smells like romp through roses, jasmine and saffron! 😉
Aww, that's so adorable! My mom's collection is over 30 years old and most of it has become resinous, but I still try to dab it on when I can, lol. She uses Khas and Motia, but all I can ever find are artificial ones that don't smell nearly the same. Do you happen to have a retailer you trust?
I actually had no idea you could buy them from a retailer! I had a friend that went to India and purchased them from a family that had made attars for generations. I'll see if I can find out more on who the family was.
I've purchased from various sites over the past decade or so, but I think most of them have shut down. Ebay has some stores, but I haven't had luck with them either. My mom's side is Indian, but no one ever wants to go to the old bazaars to pick some up for me, lol. I appreciate all the help and look forward to your next video!!
Thank you Sarah! It WAS really fascinating! One thing I didn't get to include in the video was this jedi mind trick she pulled where she had me smell the isolated scent, then smell the whole fragrance. You could smell everything *EXCEPT* the isolated scent you just sniffed. It's a fragrancing trick they use to see how other scents are working together. I'll post the mini vid to Facebook with more detail once I get a sec.
Very cool video! I've always been a fan of old spice. I've been using the Hawkridge deodorant. I hope they come out with a more traditional cologne/fragrance instead of just body sprays and washes.
They do make wonderful fragrances, don't they!?! I haven't tried Old Spice's Hawkridge yet, but if I could bottle their scent Ambassador, which smells of vanilla, I'd be in heaven! I visited Old Spice's fragrance lab while there. They definitely have the fragrances to do it!
They had a proper cologne and so did axe back in 2007. Old spice OS signature and Axe Lab. They where both discontinued quickly the average consumer didn't want to spend 20 on a bottle of cologne
@@Msbeautyphile I'd just about kill for a cologne of "Captain". That stuff is the only time I've ever gotten regular compliments on how good I smelled when I wasn't wearing anything but deodorant.
This was a neat video. Interesting to see the face behind the scents of old spice. I’ll say though they pretty much all kinda smell the same. Subtle differences between them.
I'm glad you liked it! I thought it was really cool of the Old Spice peeps to let a small YT creator like myself come in and talk to their master perfumer. I think very highly of them for letting me do that. To me, the Old Spice scents smell really distinct. I would be interested in knowing how many people who buy Old Spice consider the scent of the product as their first priority.
msbeautyphile as someone who doesn’t have much of a perspiration issue. I’m all about the scent as priority for deodorant. I really liked on how she brought up the three pillars of a fragrance. Not many know how complex it is to make a parfum.
Great clip and subject. I mostly use Old Spice (OS) Original deodorant stick and Aftershave (from the classic white bottle with the Clipper Ship logo), OS Original Lime Shave Cream (in a tube), I've got OS Original Shave Cream on order. I also really like OS Swagger Shower Gel and deodorant stick. I've recently tried OS Whitewater and OS Captain Antiperspirant & deodorant gel sticks. A shame they discontinued the old OS Shave Mugs and OS Original Shave Soap 'Cakes' (to fit into the mugs). Kind regards.
Ah that's what those are :), saw some of the red collection last week and was wondering what was different about them. Do all the scents in products have the 3 levels of fragrance?
This is a great question! I am still learning about the art of fragrance, so I don't know! I'll check! I know there are single flower fragrances called soliflores. However, top notes are the most volatile fragrances, meaning they dissapear really quickly. Without mid and base notes they would likely lack depth or not even last that long. I'll dig into this and come back with an answer. I'll see if I can ask Zerlina :D
Citron Foxcrest and original scent was the best I used old school fragrances like Eau Pour Homme Armani , Yves Saint Laurent Pour Homme , Guerlain Homme , These all fall short of the real old spice ladies ....The original old spice bodywash scent I used many fragrances with Burberry Touch Burberry Men Paco Rabanne Pour Homme Paco Rabanne XS Narcisso Rodriguez for Him Douro eau de Portugal Penhaligons English Fern Penhaligons Azzaro Pour Homme Azzaro Silver Black Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne Giorgio Beverly Hills
Their limited edition which I think used to be Nomad is incredible!!!! It’s the same idea as Creed’s Millisime Imperial, but less salty, more watermelon, and the iris note is swapped for lavender. So good! Also you get more grapefruit than bergamot in the top😍
It makes me want to make my own signature scent :) I am reading a book right now on Coco Chanel, and they talk about elements in her personality that are present in Chanel No. 5. It makes me wonder what sorta fragrance I'd create if I had a signature scent. I really like spicy fragrances. The Old Spice Red scent suited me best because I loved that it smelled spicy and warm. Maybe at some point I'll be able to do an episode where I build my own perfume using a combo of synthetic and natural molecules.
What does that smell like? I haven't tried that one yet, though truth-- I love Ambassador! It's a combination of vanilla and warm, ambery spices. It's my guilty pleasure and I think it smells just as good on a woman as it does on a man!
Go back and tell em to stop ditching great scents. Ambassador was the best, and they gave it up for a weaker scent, Elklord. Now even that is gone in lieu of Alphacentauri... a much sweeter and floral profile. Like they are purposely emasculating the scent of their products. Someone needs to crack their code or swipe the old recipe book and re-release the old stuff. We want the Ambassador back!

msbeautyphile I believe bear glove has a fruity, almost candy like scent.
@@Msbeautyphile why did they discontinue ambassador. Best one and I cant find anything like it

@msbeautyphile thoughts if Hollister so cal and old spice original had a baby known as old Cali beaches

msbeautyphile nah like dead serious I’ve had 3 hoodies go missing add that with duke cannon redwood beard balm manly af scent

Nope! I just find the art of product formulation and fragrancing very interesting!
