you know what I like is how when you break the trucks you rebuild them and its priceless for your children to watch and learn engineering skills too great work mate *🎭🔍supporting with a full view🔎🎭✅ we gave a thumbs up👍🇦🇺👍😉 😊*
Well said! That is part of the goal with this hobby. Perhaps they don't pick everything up, but at least they get part of it! At least the mentality to fix something when it is broken instead of throwing it away!
I have 10428 here in Indonesia. I think it is a great little truck but.....the electronics are not very good. I like the programable transmitter however I already burned out the esc. It might have been the larger battery I used (mAh only). The new esc got home made larger heat sink and no more problems for now. I did twist the drive shaft at the rear end, the replacement was filled with baking soda and super glue, so far it is holding up well. The radio range is not very good and at times the speed control especially is not smooth. I am thinking to upgrade the electronics, but here in Indonesia getting right parts is difficult. These 5 wire servos are a pain, I would like to retain the 2 speed gear box control as I find that feature awesome. It almost makes this buggy 2 in 1 car. I am new to this rc thing so thanks for sharing your project.
You are welcome! Yes, getting nicer controller would still allow you to keep the 2-speed option. Fortunately, the servo and ESC can be rather standard parts like I used. Good luck finding the parts.
Great vid Troy! I have been planning on doing the same with my 12428 which is the slightly smaller version on the one you have. I'm just waiting on some extra funds to get an esc(looking at the hobbywing 1060 for $25 on Amazon) for it since I already have a spare servo and receiver to go in it. These wltoys rc's definitely are a great bang for the cost of them especially since there's replacement and upgrade parts available for almost all of their models.
@@artistman75 I can't remember the exact ones. They were a set from Amazon that were the correct length. That is all. There is another video on the vehicle where I give the link.
Might be worth a mention that you do not need to replace the ESC or transmitter. I know the original brushed ESC was an ESC/Rx combo but they do an stand alone RX to match the stock transmitter (yes, you can bind to it). The Rx is called A929-124. It might help if servos need replacing in the future as the A929-124 uses standard 3 pin.
@@RoadsideRC No problem. I was doing research into a brushless conversation a few weeks ago and spotted it - doesn't seem to be a well known item. There's even a few videos on here if the binding procedure.
Good show how video. Seemed pretty straight forward, and I liked your water proofing techniques. I am assuming that is why you used the balloon. Also I really liked those wheels on the rig too.
Thanks! Yes, the balloon works surprisingly well for waterproofing a receiver. I fold it over a few times and zip tie around it. I use the same method on my Wraith, and have had that vehicle completely submerged!
I have 10428 & 12428, which I am looking to upgrade. The 12428 appears it will be more challenging due to it size (Being small) more modifications required. Why didn't you simply remove the Gear Servo?
Thank you! The shocks are cheapo Amazon shocks on the rear that were the same length as stock. The fronts are still the stock shocks. The tires are Pro-Line TSL Super Swampers on RC4WD Dick Cepek wheels. Hope that helps!
I used an old Traxxas transmitter and receiver. You must get a transmitter and receiver combo, nothing will pair with the factory equipment except direct replacements. Note - the choice I made was also to eliminate the hi/lo gearing.
ESC, servo, and receiver must all be waterproof. There are ways to waterproof the stock parts. Either by putting them in a box (ESC and receiver) or by using a coating such as conformal coating. Brushed motors are almost always waterproof.
@@RoadsideRC many thanks for the info, replacing receiver+ESC will need new transmitter, isn't it? Maybe I'll try to put in a box. How about change the servo, will it impact the transmitter?
Certainly a cheaper brand, no question. This is the only truck I have owned of theirs. It has been a fun vehicle while we have owned it. If you have the budget though, your more known brands might be worth it.
I recently blew the esc.. Just ordered a servo (same) and order some parts.. Didn’t understood about the fishing line to set up the servo.. Please explain
Two things to get the servo setup right. 1) before putting on the servo horn, make sure the car is powered on, and your steering trim is centered. This makes sure your steering is close to centered. 2) Once all is assembled, set the servo end points. This is sometimes called dual-rate. This is the setting on the controller that limits how much the servo moves. Without this, you may ask the servo to move too far, and damage it.
Q if i do all this upgrades, would i need a different remote control? Please let me know , i live ur set up n i just purchase my 10428 n would like sut it up like urs....
Hi,nice video man,I rebuild my 10428 too,but I have problem with horn on steering servo ( old plastic is gone to hell and I want aluminium) but every horns I bought dont fit :-( please help me and recommend some.
And after change for metal gear servo, this stock horn has good condition? I worried about use plastic to metal...and I didnt find any topics about this problem...thank you for you info
You are looking for a "ball stud". I can't remember which diameter that ball is, however there are some rather common sizes. Example is this one from Redcat: amzn.to/3riwZjZ Here is a 5.5mm from Tekno: amzn.to/3cxAMG5 And a 4.8mm from HPI: amzn.to/3jbpKrt One of those should work for you.
Basically any standard 540 size brushless system should work. Something in the 3300kv range should be good. Unless you go sensored, it won't do very well at slow driving anymore. It would be more of a basher.
This cars electronics are junk. For anyone thinking of buying one you will spend as much again on replacing all the electronics, broken drive shafts, diffs and prop shafts. Other than that it’s a fun rc

Nice upgrade man. They are great little rigs👊👍💯
Thanks 👍. Agree - this has been a fun truck for us!
Very nice upgrade video. Looks to work really good!
It does! Thanks for watching!

That is true! Good value here.
That 1060 Hobbywing should work great.
I just received my WLToys 10428, looking forward as I've had the 12428. This should open some possibilities.
Glad to hear it.
Tire and shock upgrade also foes a lot for this truck!

Agree on the 12428 based on the size.
I was concerned that the transmission would get bumped into neutral.

It sure is. I hope it works for awhile in this rig!
I just ordered a motor and esc upgrade. However which reciever did you use and will an upgraded reciever work on the stock transmitter.?
I used an old Traxxas transmitter and receiver.
You must get a transmitter and receiver combo, nothing will pair with the factory equipment except direct replacements.

What tires have you got fitted there? What outside diameter and width are they they're obviously bigger than stock? Do they rub at all??
Cheers
The tires are the Super Swamper XL. 1.9".
No issues with rubbing or anything. But just BARELY. It is very close to rubbing.
Just got my servo and it’s not a true fit.. How did you installed the new servo?? Different bracket??
Hmm. I am sorry, but no. Mine just bolted in.
Did you get a servo that was a standard 1/10 size?
I got this one.. www.ebay.com/itm/174245440182
your car is 1/12 or 1/10? Just realized mine is 12427 no 12428.. Mine is 1/12
Mine is the 1/10
Hi, just saw your video. Did you change the motor to make it Waterproof? Or just use the stock motor?
The stock brushed motor is waterproof.
I do plan to change the motor also at a future time.

So is this a single speed now as no servo for the 2 speed gearbox?
Correct - I just locked the gerabox into high gear.

Still running a standard 2S lipo. It barely fits in back there.
Does it have a brussles motor too?
No, I left it brushed to help with more a crawling setup
