Hey, I think this scheme of using gear in context ahead of a deeper, traditional review is a great idea... And you never let us down with your Friday Fun performances... Cheers!
Joking aside from releasing an album of theses jams, when ACTUALLY ARE you going to release these series of jams. Today's is absolutely out of the park!! Sounds great through my hi-fi.
There are many things in this world that I don't understand, but the one that is taxing me at the the moment is why anyone would give this a thumbs down! It's a middle aged bloke fecking about with synths FFS. As a middle aged bloke who fecks about with synths, I have to ask what's not to like?
This thing came on as my RUclips was just playing automatically in the background and without looking, I thought it was a movie clip or something. Nope, just Nick being Nick.
Curious how long it took to set up the MIDI signaling and config of the MPK Mini to make this all work! In fact I'd love a walkthrough video of you doing that from scratch!
great video! love the set up! HUGE QUESTION FOR A NEWB:D How do you connect the Akai MK3 to the other synths? I can't seem to find the correct adapter/cables to make that happen. I bought a KORG NTS1 and loving it especially for its effects on my Pocket Operators and other devices. But I can't fo the life of me figure out how to connect the Akai to the NTS-1. Any help pointing me in the right direction will be forever appreciated!
excitement and long time longing got the best of me. just saw the part where you explain the connections, but I seem to not know how you connected the blue cable out of the MK3 to the RK 006. Sorry for the silly simple questions :/ Ton of searching around and apparently just not searching down the right roads....
Great video! So do I get it right that if I only have MPK mini and Korg NTS-1, all I need is the USB hub to connect them? I wonder if you can just use the midi keyboard to generate sounds with Korg NTS-1 and send the sound to the speaker. Is there a tutorial on that?
last question, I promise! Now I know how to assign the pads and nobs on MK3 through a daw. But how do you assign the nobs to a hardware synth paramaters? blows my mind that thats possible. Been scouring google but still no luck. Would LOVE and APPRECIATE any explanation/pointing me in the right direction! much love and peace! JR
If I may ask how you get your Pulsar-23 to play on the akai mpk mini? I'd like to buy the behringer model d and plug it into mpk mini, but people tell me I'd need midi out and should get a different Midi keyboard. Is the midi-hub doing that job?
This Jam brings up a question for me, does the firmware update on the "NTS-1" allow you to change the volume ratio between the internal oscillator volume and the external input volume? Because on mine whenever I plug in an external input And play the actual NTS 1 itself together the NTS 1's volume is always louder than the external input. No matter how much I crank up the volume of the external input?
If you look at the Global Parameters section of the manual there's one called Input Trim and the default is -6dB, you can change it to 0dB to get the external input louder than default, it's still not exactly loud, but it's better
this is a request, any of your crew has a E-rm Polygogo? it would be nice to see it pair up to that set up and see what you come up with, or with a Lyra or an Erebus/Nyx
I hope they gave you the Pulsar, because i think you have helped sell hundreds, if not thousands, of those . I got on the list after you review, and am still waiting..
@@sonicstate thanks for that! I just thought it was a great example of moving away from the sometimes harsh digital sound of the Riser and generating a rather digital masking, analogue sounding warmth. Great vid!
I'm confused. The droney bass lead we often hear (with high resonance filter sweeping) must be analog, right? It's so good! So, the Pulsar can control filter frequency and other stuff via midi? Great.
nice demo - love the Soma gear the MPK mini is nice but takes too much power to be standalone with just an iPad (need power bank) which is a shame since the size, weight, and features would make it an ideal companion with just an iPad and a mess of apps I use the Arturia Keystep or CME XKey for mobile use (will power off the iPad as well as MIDI)
looping? There's a recorder in each channel of the Pulsar-23 kick and Clap were recorded, hats were triggering off a clock division if thats what you mean..?
Why don't you get the guys from early human league to come in and do a jam with you! What was the song you were referring to and you did the system one review?
Best Friday Synth Jam so far, I do like how these Jams always have me wanting more. And that SOMA magic continues to make my money disappear. If they don't stop bringing that amazing kit out then I'll have to register a new business to bounce a government loan. I hear it is OK if the money lands in a Russian business, it will be fine. I am not retraining to become a plumber, even if Chancellor Sunak says I should - vote now if you want a humming stoned creative-type plumbing your house? Exactly and besides, I am a businessman now! I'll see you all in my dreams, a prison or a reeducation facility.
Nicely done and sounds great, way to maximize the capabilities of equipment and showing that it doesn't have to be big or expensive to make good music. This may be a stretch but this reminds me of Laurie Anderson's, "Gravity's Angel," listen if you can hear it. Regards and keep that great content coming! ruclips.net/video/h1v5UdYpStw/видео.html

The Pulsar-23 is such a fantastic sounding device and I am impressed with that little Korg unit. Excellent improv composition...
As an MPK Mini owner looking to get the NTS-1, this was really helpful to see!
your best episode. great sounds and very musical!
Nick when are you gonna release your album called "Friday Fun Synth Jam" hahah
I vote "yes"
@@formerself4372 gtfo ROFL! Find of the week right here!!!
Consuming all pulsar 23 material while waiting for its arrival, thanks for posting!
Nick this was magical, this was really magical.
Awesome jam. I like how your shirt matches the Pulsar. :)
Anything with a Pulsar, sign me up!
But this was especially great!🥰
Loving the Friday Fun vids! Always a good way to kick start the weekend! Cheers, Nick!
This mesmerised me it was so good!
Keep these coming. It’s great to see the gear you review in action.
It's about time to put all these Friday jams up on Bandcamp
soniclab.bandcamp.com
I love the retrokits.com stuff. I have the RK-004 and RK-005 and they are so handy in many situations.
Nick to Engineer next DM record 💪🏻
Cheers Nick, tremendous stuff, loving the minimalist soundtrack vibe with this one, pleasantly spooky. :)
this is actually best review that MPK can have
Damn Nick, some amazing sounds in there! Your content is always so appreciated! Thank you for doing what you do!
I always forget how awesome the nts-1 sounds.
Should really use mine more :#
That was a great sound you had going on there man! ✌️
These Friday Fun's are soooooooo much more interesting than those hour long podcasts. :-)
Very inspiring, really good video have to say 👍
Very nice Jam.... you’re certainly making the most of midi.
Such rich GORGEOUS textures!
Joking aside from releasing an album of theses jams, when ACTUALLY ARE you going to release these series of jams. Today's is absolutely out of the park!! Sounds great through my hi-fi.
Another Nick Batt rager! Amazing jam and also serving as an inspiration for my soon to be released Russian drone theramin, the Pulaski-29.
The Pular-23 sounds better than the original one
😅 Great jam by the way!
The Pulsar is insane. I haven't heard anything like it before. This sounds like Forest Swords. I could listen to this all day.
The pulsar is beastly
Very cool. Nick ‘John carpenter’ Batt. That would fit right in They Live or Prince of Darkness.

Great jam! There's a typo in the video title (Pular-23) ;-)
Wow sounds awesome
I could listen to this all day
I would buy a record of you with these instruments
The vibe of this is totally my thing.
Mine too. I like how his encoders are mapped to things that make big changes to the huge sound.
Nice one, Nick. Totally enjoyable.
This thing came on as my RUclips was just playing automatically in the background and without looking, I thought it was a movie clip or something. Nope, just Nick being Nick.
This was incredible! Didn't realize the MPK mini was so versatile.
Lol here I was hovering over the buy button for the MPK (for use with Serato Studio and as a more compact controller) and then this! Buy it is :)
Lovely stuff Nick - very vibey!
The state of that white USB cable though!
I know. The shame....
Great video, but can you tell us how do you connect the akai controller to the nets without a daw? Thanks
That pulsar look kind of good I want one
Curious how long it took to set up the MIDI signaling and config of the MPK Mini to make this all work! In fact I'd love a walkthrough video of you doing that from scratch!
Me too!
Me three!
Any update on this ??
great video! love the set up! HUGE QUESTION FOR A NEWB:D

Cool jam! Love the sounds of the Pulsar. The ads are getting pretty out of control though.
I've just watched video about soma products, pulsar23 & seq. ... I mean...it's so fantastic ! Amazing organismic Gears !
A FFT called Alban.
That NTS-1 is some little machine, i bought 2 they sound really sweet..
Love it the little korg sounds beefy!
last question, I promise! Now I know how to assign the pads and nobs on MK3 through a daw. But how do you assign the nobs to a hardware synth paramaters? blows my mind that thats possible. Sorry we don't have the unit here any more. It's all in the manual though I would think
If I may ask how you get your Pulsar-23 to play on the akai mpk mini?
I'd like to buy the behringer model d and plug it into mpk mini, but people tell me I'd need midi out and should get a different Midi keyboard.

can I play without the pulsar or the retrokits...how does it work im only have the mpk and I want to buy the korg unit...

That NTS does SO much with SO little...
Yeah! Really cool stuff
Great music.
Great setup & jam
this is a request, any of your crew has a E-rm Polygogo?
it would be nice to see it pair up to that set up and see what you come up with, or with a Lyra or an Erebus/Nyx
that poor MonoPoly on the shelving unit !
Sounds a cross between Ultravox and Tim Blake… 👌
I would buy this album...
Great Sound!!
Monster sounds!
Sounds like TIE Fighters at 1:00
Awesome thanks
Nice one, big up!
This is so good... !
Pure awesomeness! :)
I hope they gave you the Pulsar, because i think you have helped sell hundreds, if not thousands, of those . I got on the list after you review, and am still waiting..
so can i use just the mpk mini with the nts-1?
Zzzzzoundzzzzz amazzzzzing!
Lovely sound from the NTS-1, any chance of a hint to how you created it?
Honestly nothing special, saw wave, 4pole lp filter, Adr envelope, long release, slight amount of tremolo. Submarine and shimmer FX. Pretty much it
@@sonicstate thanks for that! I just thought it was a great example of moving away from the sometimes harsh digital sound of the Riser and generating a rather digital masking, analogue sounding warmth. Great vid!

Does anyone know if there is a way to match the delay on the Korg NTS1 to a clock?
Batt sh$t crazy Friday!
Amazing.
how to connect akai witch pulsar?
it says pular-23
Also, is the shirt supposed to match the Pulsar? :-)
nice demo - love the Soma gear
the MPK mini is nice but takes too much power to be standalone with just an iPad (need power bank) which is a shame since the size, weight, and features would make it an ideal companion with just an iPad and a mess of apps

Very Nice... Very Nice Indeed. Do you have to use a special midi connector with the NTS-1?
John Saucerhunter Yeah, i know Kensington makes one. The one he’s using is in the description. It’s a usb to midi hub.
Great Jam! BTW what is doing the looping? is that something inside the Pulsar-23?
looping? There's a recorder in each channel of the Pulsar-23 kick and Clap were recorded, hats were triggering off a clock division if thats what you mean..?
That usb cable seen better days
Man this sounds so metroid prime
USB midi with no computer. I didn't know you could do that.
Why don't you get the guys from early human league to come in and do a jam with you! What was the song you were referring to and you did the system one review?
This week's is a corker :)
Delicious
For what to use?
nice
#SonicState You clearly have great talent as an ambient music creator
Love to Nick and the rest of you 'pot' heads. Peace!
Nick goes Berghain
Make a beat uncle vester what is this!!
#SonicState So inspiring!
This was way too short!🤔😔
Typo in title: Change 'Pular-23' to Pulsar-23.
