Genius with switching between the two different shimmer pitches!! Also love the „hmm a bit formless but anything will do right now won’t it looks bleak out there“ ;D
@@frankschneider7190 I know any dude doing slow chords passing through long reverb fx, has more success than a guy composing complicated soundtracks. 😂
Some of it is very nice. But sometimes it sounded slightly metallic. Not sure if that’s the patch, the synth or the Strymon. Or maybe just my old ears lol
Currently deciding between the Cobalt 8M, Argon 8M, Hydrasynth and OB-6. I've got standard studio reverb, so the Night Sky is a given. Really interested in the LFOs, chromatic shimmer and reverb sequencing capabilities of the NS. The Cobalt 8 is gorgeous, but I have tons of true analog, so wavetable synthesis (and the Argon 8M) would fill the missing spot that analog modeling might not, however tastefully done.
I do love a good reverb. My favourite way to peace out is to put my model D through the ventris and cruise over the sonic horizon. Gotta love the front panel on that strymon though. Great for tweaking.
A bit much for tweaking for a guitar-pedal-format reverb. I wonder if guitarists really dig this one as much as they like the Big Sky? Probably more synth users are picking this up, I bet.
Do you think it would be a satisfactory "straightforward" reverb as well? Looking to eventually invest in one of these more expensive pedals but between this, Big Sky, Ventris, and others, I'm not really sure what separates them.
@@ObKling It depends on what type of music you make and how many modulation options you need. The Nightsky can be good for ambient and experimental sounds. The Ventris is also very powerful but can do ‘standard’ verbs too.
Both of these machines LOOK so nice. Like The color and the soft edges look classy and modern and not overstated. They just look like things I would like to have lol. No room for them in my studio sonically or otherwise though but damn do they look nice.
One of the things about the Big Sky which really irks me is that if you send an input to it that's too hot the DSP goes nuts and it starts changing parameters at random. It would be good to know if the Night Sky includes some reasonable clipping circuitry.
@@Jason75913 I am, and nothing else I've ever plugged into does what the Big Sky does when it goes kooky. I tend to lean on an OTO Bam instead because it can take hotter signals.

Man these are always awesome, calms me down immediately. This is up there with the matrixbrute Friday jam as one of my favs. Does Nick have any recordings or anything?
I wonder how close I can get with an Argon 8 and a Devin Townsend Ocean Machine... Great little jam Nick, Lost in Music, No Turning Back, Indeed. I suppose I'll have to get one of these Cobalt jobbies now, especially as I'm Bristol based. As I've got the Argon8 37 I'm torn between the module and the big one (8x)...
These type of pedals are a good reason to get into modular. Not everybody likes modular and that's a fair argument. But in eurorack land, plenty of excellent reverbs that are more affordable than Night Sky and without modulation/driver/filter/sequencer limitations. Do I sound like a cult member? Join us. We are inevitable. No more fears. No more linear triangle waves. No more wall warts. Join. Ussss.
@@MB-kx5qs Modular Grid is a great place to search reverbs but a lot of people use Erica Synths Black Hole DSP2, Mutable Instruments Clouds (or one of the billion clones), Make Noise Erbe-Verb (price is comparable to Night Sky), and tons more. For me, fx were usually an afterthought and not something I rely on heavily. At least, until I bought Earthquaker's Afterneath reverberator module earlier this year. It's just so much fun to experiment with and it sounds excellent. I also own an Erica Pico DSP and though it's tiny, having just 1 CV input can really bring some creative movement to the effect. Having control over parameters is a blast so Night Sky would be totally fun. But if you're looking for that particular type of control, I would definitely suggest a modular fx case.
Waiting on that Argon 8 I finally bought to show up and then I see this......this isn't helping! LOL Would love to see something similar to the Night Sky unit built into the Argon and Cobalts effects line-up. I know, I'm asking quite a bit, but I can't help myself. :D
Beautiful sounds through that reverb... I think my wish for these pedal manufacturers would be to have CV and or Trigger inputs (and for when they do LFOs or sequences outputs), perhaps also accepting clocks for synchronizing timings. That's one thing I love about the Dreadbox Komorebi.
Tasty Nick. How much of that loveliness is Cobalt8 and how much Stymon? Could I have done that on my MiniNova with the night Sky (for colour co-ordinators everywhere a similar blue)?
@@sonicstate Thank you for your answer, that's interesting to know as it is influencing my thoughts which to get first or whether I can use a different poly I already own in the meantime to create similar amazing ambient sounds. Someone keeps telling me how many pianos do I need.
The cobalt 8 is the most interesting synth, at that price, that I've heard for a while. It is inspiring. That's the most important thing an instrument can do to you. I'm not that knowledgable about synthesis but you don't need to be with presets and form factor like this. I understand it and so I bought it, the 61 key version, today. It's a bargain I reckon.
The real question for me is, is this overkill? With the Cobalt containing onboard effects and seemingly reverb already on most of presets? Or does this save me from getting something like the Ocean Machine?
Genius with switching between the two different shimmer pitches!! Also love the „hmm a bit formless but anything will do right now won’t it looks bleak out there“ ;D
All as blue as an army of smurfs ;) Lovely jam as always.
So cool! That combination of blues really pays off!
