I changed everything exercise and eating very clean no gluten less sugar. Organic meat and everything. Take probotics and digestive enzymes fish oil. Coconut oil. Very little dairy LOTS of filtered water with lemon juice. Meditation. Hopefully this helps those who asked.

After you take the probiotics, how are they going to survive? They only eat fiber and meat, oils ....have zero fiber.

good habits. There are some ‘basics’ to return to. So, amen, I agree, as I take three deep breaths and pray.🌞

  • @pausedev9766

Tom, have you ever looked into fermented food? I think it might be the solution to your wife's problem. Fermenting food creates a whole variety of bacteria that will fill your gut once you eat it, and which is responsible for a lot of human mechanisms, including digesting, which is simply those small organisms eating the compounds of the food you eat and transforming them into assimilable compounds for your gut and your body. Most of our health issues are due to the fact that we eat "dead" or pasteurized food, so our guts and our body are deprived of life. We've always eaten fermented food until the industrial revolution and then suddenly stopped, that's why the diversity of our micro biome has never been so scarce. The living stuff we eat are making sure we are healthy and that we too stay alive and functioning well. Thanks for this episode :)

I always learn a little something from these videos, but I’m blown away today! I developed eating disorders (weird!) and ultra-serious depression (double weird!!) after all the stress incurred by joining the military. I went from a healthy, paleo-ish, happy person to someone in chronic joint pain, emotionally numb, and 60 pounds heavier. Oh, and 50 of those were gained in the first year alone, at which point I developed bulimia as a desperate measure to slow down the gain! I’m out now, and working to put myself back together. My theory was to focus on my gut first, and now I’m more convinced that it’s a pretty smart place to start, but with the added measure of stress management.
I’m starting my own YT journey soon, and I’m going to do everything I can to bring you more followers. You can really help so many people!

The SURPRISE of EXERCISE having the BIGGEST IMPACT is mindblowing right there. Here is a guy talking about the gut and diet. • @carmy_v

    Great video. Extremely important topic.
Poor gut health means poor absorption of key nutrients that supply your brain and body.
For certain people there are certain foods that can alter the way the gut would normally respond to food, or, overproduction of bad bacteria in the gut can compete for those nutrients that your body needs, or, stressors or stimulants, or both, can restrict nutrients being absorbed into the body.
When your body doesn't receive the important vitamins and minerals available in the food you eat, many of which support important enzyme functions, you will develop vitamin and mineral deficiencies that lead to anxiety, depression, poor muscle function, changes in hormonal function and so forth.
You have to keep track of what you eat and pay special attention to how it affects your gut and then your entire body.

Thank you for bringing such a relevant issue to light. People don't realise how much chronic stomach issues can impact your life, including socially and psychologically. I'd also recommend checking out the work of Dr Mark Pimental, who puts people through a program of complete microbiome reconditioning, including an elemental diet - although I'm sure there have been advances since I read his first book on the subject. Great vid! Tom if you haven’t already you have to check out The Plant Paradox by Dr. Gundry. What could be contributing or causing your wife’s gut issues are lectins in night shades, legumes, corn, and/or grain. Gluten is the most famous lectin but there are many others that can be even more harmful to people sensitive to them (eg, the skin and seeds of tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, etc.)
Despite being a health nut I struggled for years with severe debilitating allergies that would cause respiratory infections and sinus infections. I also would get excruciating headaches and had unpleasant digestive issues. The Plant Paradox changed my life. Since I have cut lectins out of my diet I am allergy, infection, and headache free. Please get this book for your wife. You’ll be glad you did!

Dr Zach Bush, focused on the communication network of the biome.....as we are not smart enough to repopulate a biome that needs 20,000 species to be healthy. Fix leaky gut, protect from glyphosate and increase microbiome diversity and more.... check Dr Bush

Awesome as always! His book is so good and eye opening. And this interview was very nice, it really gave a look what kind of a guy he is like it's not that he says one thing and isn't ready to change his mind if need to be 🤔 very nice

    Hi Tom
Amazing job with this new segment on Health covering overall well being with focus on Optimising Brain.👍
I do have a list of people whom you should bring into the show and the first one would be Alex Zhavoronkov of Insilico Medicine.
Person at a level of Elon Musk in Healthcare pushing towards phenomenal transformation.
To put it simple, in last couple of years he did almost the amount work what could be done in a decade.

Hey hello i am from india for last two years i am suffering from gastritis and GERD. To much bloating fatiuge plus mouth ulcers.
I was on ppi that lead to vitamin b12 and vitamin D deficiencies in me i don't know what diet i should eat.
It seems chronic disease seems too many gut issues at same time like gastritis, chron disease, leaky gut and all at same time it's so overwhelming

YES, another big vote for Intermitten Fasting. Even after Dr. Dean Ornish Reversal Program for Diabetes and Heart Disease (it took two stents to get my attention) I have gained even more taking control of my eating by I.F. I’ve dropped 17lbs. mostly waist fat and sleeping flat & longer after 25 years on a slant due to G.E.R.D. Lots of extra time not preparing and eating sSOooMuch. New bumper sticker: Rushed For Time Slow-Down... and Fast.

Curious to know how you feel about a parasite cleanse in connections with the microbiome and if it could help basically reboot the gut? Do you think this would have a positive or negative effect on someone normal and someone with chrons disease

    • @TomBilyeu

Unfortunately, I don't know enough to answer this question. But there are many people out there in the functional medicine world that could help. Just do some searches for functional medicine and you should be able to identify the players pretty quickly.

    EMERAN MAYER
UCLA professor, brain gut scientist, book - mind, gut connection.
    Golden Nuggets
If you are chronically stressed you will get cramps, changes speeds of process in gut. If you get stressed ex: almost hit by car for 5 minutes that’s not a problem, but if you are chronically stressed it can change the entire “gut habitat and environment”, negative emotions are never really good for anything.
The gut has the microbes, brain and blood vessels don’t have microbes.
Microbes are invisible but if you condensed all of them they would be size of basketball court.
Last remaining hunter/gathers: paper - microbiome has a seasonal variation, summer vs winter, is they switch to plant to meat based diet, when they don’t have high plant intake, gut looks like our, when they go to plant based, they regain their diversity.
Diet and Depression? He said keto diet is paradoxical. Tom - didn’t have lifting of brain frog, tom eats 30 grams of carbs from vegetables daily, low carb…. Wife - anti-inflammatory affects, when she does ketogenic diet her (swollen feeling of stomach goes away), still has problems with diarrhea, cramping, bloating, pain. Not a silver bullet.
Microbes live off what we eat. He seemed like he has some data but isn’t convinced 100% on any one type of diet or food. Basically saying eveyone is different and unique. Different things work for different people.
    Similarities
Don’t eat while stressed, do meditative breathing while eating, when you are stressed your gut is completely different than when you aren’t stressed.
    Books
    Brain, gut connection

Recently I am tempted by keto expiriences as well. Well, but I coul never refuse legumes and rye bread and I believe they both are healthy, because I don't have problems with those. I am just curious how that ketosis state feels on human when there is no more glucoze, but fat instead to use in energy. But I doubt that it would be good for kidneys if they need to work more as they would have to transform continuously that incoming fat into ketones. Ultimately I am making my own researches and refuse untill I find unbiased opinions that give both sides - pros and cons - about this metabolic state.
