Tom, have you ever looked into fermented food? I think it might be the solution to your wife's problem. Fermenting food creates a whole variety of bacteria that will fill your gut once you eat it, and which is responsible for a lot of human mechanisms, including digesting, which is simply those small organisms eating the compounds of the food you eat and transforming them into assimilable compounds for your gut and your body. Most of our health issues are due to the fact that we eat "dead" or pasteurized food, so our guts and our body are deprived of life. We've always eaten fermented food until the industrial revolution and then suddenly stopped, that's why the diversity of our micro biome has never been so scarce. The living stuff we eat are making sure we are healthy and that we too stay alive and functioning well. Thanks for this episode :)
Ive gone back to a more traditional Asian/Chinese diet. Miso soups, fermented black soy beans for stir fry flavoring. I've even incorporate natto in to my diet. I think its helping, although i need to get my sleep cycle in order.
I always learn a little something from these videos, but I’m blown away today! I developed eating disorders (weird!) and ultra-serious depression (double weird!!) after all the stress incurred by joining the military. I went from a healthy, paleo-ish, happy person to someone in chronic joint pain, emotionally numb, and 60 pounds heavier. Oh, and 50 of those were gained in the first year alone, at which point I developed bulimia as a desperate measure to slow down the gain! I’m out now, and working to put myself back together. My theory was to focus on my gut first, and now I’m more convinced that it’s a pretty smart place to start, but with the added measure of stress management. I’m starting my own YT journey soon, and I’m going to do everything I can to bring you more followers. You can really help so many people!

This was great Tom. Seriously man, thank you. I almost died, due to intense inner lining and esophageal issues; but I've been HEAVILY focused on the proper nutrient intake protocols. Thanks for this Tom. Together you and your wife, I hope your wife Lisa gets well in this journey of discovering how to go about what she is going through personally. It just goes to show how powerful the brain is and exercise obviously keeps the brain healthy and whatever state it is in keeps the gut in check which reports back to brain in a constant loop. Wow! Thanks as well to your open and candid guest Emeran!
Great video. Extremely important topic. Poor gut health means poor absorption of key nutrients that supply your brain and body. For certain people there are certain foods that can alter the way the gut would normally respond to food, or, overproduction of bad bacteria in the gut can compete for those nutrients that your body needs, or, stressors or stimulants, or both, can restrict nutrients being absorbed into the body. When your body doesn't receive the important vitamins and minerals available in the food you eat, many of which support important enzyme functions, you will develop vitamin and mineral deficiencies that lead to anxiety, depression, poor muscle function, changes in hormonal function and so forth. You have to keep track of what you eat and pay special attention to how it affects your gut and then your entire body.

Thank you for bringing such a relevant issue to light. People don't realise how much chronic stomach issues can impact your life, including socially and psychologically. I'd also recommend checking out the work of Dr Mark Pimental, who puts people through a program of complete microbiome reconditioning, including an elemental diet - although I'm sure there have been advances since I read his first book on the subject. Great vid! Tom if you haven’t already you have to check out The Plant Paradox by Dr. Gundry. What could be contributing or causing your wife’s gut issues are lectins in night shades, legumes, corn, and/or grain. Gluten is the most famous lectin but there are many others that can be even more harmful to people sensitive to them (eg, the skin and seeds of tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, etc.) Despite being a health nut I struggled for years with severe debilitating allergies that would cause respiratory infections and sinus infections. I also would get excruciating headaches and had unpleasant digestive issues. The Plant Paradox changed my life. Since I have cut lectins out of my diet I am allergy, infection, and headache free. Please get this book for your wife. You’ll be glad you did!

nice to get such in-depth discussions about something that is actually scientific! i mean, dont get me wrong, i like the usual personal development talk (i myself built a whole channel around it), but sometimes it does feel a bit vague. so a value videos like this where something concrete is covered!
Congratulations. Always great information. I I loved the comment of the young man 22 . He recognizes he’s lucky to have this information in such an young age. Above all, you have a great attitude. Very smart. Good for you
Loved the interview - just one thing (maybe I missed it because I was distracted... then sorry!) - What is his suggestion now on how to eat exactly? Plant based is the best for microbial diversity?
Mr. Bilyeu, I just meditated-prayed for you and your wife's good health.. God showed me 'infrared' light. So I just Googled to see if it is a thing or if it even exists... and it looks like it does... check out 'infrared micro-biome therapy' I will keep you both in my prayers! BEST WISHES!

Curious to know how you feel about a parasite cleanse in connections with the microbiome and if it could help basically reboot the gut? Do you think this would have a positive or negative effect on someone normal and someone with chrons disease
Unfortunately, I don't know enough to answer this question. But there are many people out there in the functional medicine world that could help. Just do some searches for functional medicine and you should be able to identify the players pretty quickly.
I ate ONCE A DAY, exercise but I still gain weight it’s very frustrating- I gut leaky syndrome due to excessive intake of antibiotics because of my UTI
EMERAN MAYER UCLA professor, brain gut scientist, book - mind, gut connection. Golden Nuggets If you are chronically stressed you will get cramps, changes speeds of process in gut. If you get stressed ex: almost hit by car for 5 minutes that’s not a problem, but if you are chronically stressed it can change the entire “gut habitat and environment”, negative emotions are never really good for anything. The gut has the microbes, brain and blood vessels don’t have microbes. Microbes are invisible but if you condensed all of them they would be size of basketball court. Last remaining hunter/gathers: paper - microbiome has a seasonal variation, summer vs winter, is they switch to plant to meat based diet, when they don’t have high plant intake, gut looks like our, when they go to plant based, they regain their diversity. Diet and Depression? He said keto diet is paradoxical. Tom - didn’t have lifting of brain frog, tom eats 30 grams of carbs from vegetables daily, low carb…. Wife - anti-inflammatory affects, when she does ketogenic diet her (swollen feeling of stomach goes away), still has problems with diarrhea, cramping, bloating, pain. Not a silver bullet. Microbes live off what we eat. He seemed like he has some data but isn’t convinced 100% on any one type of diet or food. Basically saying eveyone is different and unique. Different things work for different people. Similarities Don’t eat while stressed, do meditative breathing while eating, when you are stressed your gut is completely different than when you aren’t stressed. Books Brain, gut connection

Recently I am tempted by keto expiriences as well. Well, but I coul never refuse legumes and rye bread and I believe they both are healthy, because I don't have problems with those. I am just curious how that ketosis state feels on human when there is no more glucoze, but fat instead to use in energy. But I doubt that it would be good for kidneys if they need to work more as they would have to transform continuously that incoming fat into ketones. Ultimately I am making my own researches and refuse untill I find unbiased opinions that give both sides - pros and cons - about this metabolic state.
I started eating Keto when I was 75. I am very healthy and have more energy than I’ve had in many years. You have to get past the first five or six days, then the good times began! 😊
I had IBS and nothing work just Medicine that my doctor put me on and all the issues with my stomach desapear . Yes, is that right because i am looking changes in mind after cleanings of guts.
nice to get such in-depth discussions about something that is actually scientific! i mean, dont get me wrong, i like the usual personal development talk (i myself built a whole channel around it), but sometimes it does feel a bit vague. so a value videos like this where something concrete is covered!
great information from Fred Willard's more serious brother. thanks!
Happiness comes from fecal bacteria. Subscribed
Ive been dealing with GI problems for 2 years now. Definitely want to check out his book. Thanks for this video!
Congratulations. Always great information. I
I loved the comment of the young man 22 . He recognizes he’s lucky to have this information in such an young age. Above all, you have a great attitude. Very smart. Good for you
Great episode, I feel sorry for Lisa, seems to have many problems with digestion ! 🤗
Loved the interview - just one thing (maybe I missed it because I was distracted... then sorry!) - What is his suggestion now on how to eat exactly? Plant based is the best for microbial diversity?
Avoid gluten. Take probiotics supplements. it also depends on the person.
Please check out the spectrum, far infrared is the highest, but red or blue may have the right nm/frequency to have a positive impact

@@sashaluq Hey hello i am from india for last two years i am suffering from gastritis and GERD. To much bloating fatiuge plus mouth ulcers.
I was on ppi that lead to vitamin b12 and vitamin D deficiencies in me i don't know what diet i should eat.
It seems chronic disease seems too many gut issues at same time like gastritis, chron disease, leaky gut and all at same time it's so overwhelming
Please pray for me
Thank you inspiring and opening . Love
Check out the book Fiber Fueled by Dr. Will Bulsiewicz (Emeran Mayer actually wrote a positive review for it in the beginning). It provides so much hope. It provides guidance on how to fix your gut while avoiding the bloating issues along the way. It is one of my favorites to use as a nutritionist with clients.
This interview was legendary!
Finna go get the book right now I’m tired of suffering from not eating because if poor digestion
Every time I hear a health theory it really makes me think about changing my diet for the better and at least giving keto a shot for a good period of time
My hope that by now Lisa is taking a healthy dose of grass fed Gelatin and L-Glutamine....But I'm sure you/she knows that. As a VIOME LOVER and ambassador myself - kudos to this video and love any discussions about our guts! What about a show on Gut instincts/Intuition and the microbiome? I think Deepak Chopra would be a cool person to interview regarding this conscious connection...just thoughts. Thank you and Aloha from Oahu!
Thaaank youuu!! Keep them coming 😁😁
I truly love, admire and appreciate that what you're doing with this show.
This was awesome! Thank you so much. I liked your questions/style .
Being a health coach- I cant agree more!!!!!!!!!
👀 Amazing information Tomas 👌 thanks for bringing these topics of function of the gut 👍🏻 blessings to all 🙏🙏🙏
Nice episode!!! Great insights!
Tom can we know more about Parkinson’s gut brain links. Please
Gut microbes man… the best friends we never knew we had!
Excellent!!!
That was extremely interesting!
I believe I had this since I was a kid and that's pretty much the truth about all of my setbacks and I had bad grades and in a way cause d to still make poor decisions in life in a way more now still in a way Too day.Amen.
Good stuff. Thanks.
This was amazing :) oh man Tom, you'd simply love Dr. Robert Moorse and Dan Mcdonald the life regenerator. So much of this ties in and they are so logical and informative. Some of the clearest and most impactful information I've ever heard. Maybe check them out :)
Oh man Sorin, Morse is a naturoquacker, not a doctor.
I wish this was cut less. Fascinating stuff.
Really good video! Thank you Tom
Dr Zach Bush, focused on the communication network of the biome.....as we are not smart enough to repopulate a biome that needs 20,000 species to be healthy. Fix leaky gut, protect from glyphosate and increase microbiome diversity and more.... check Dr Bush
How did we get here? I used to just eat whatever and sleep when ever and never was interested in what happens in my body and still life was great!!!!
I was 18. 😅
and now 19, nice
@Tom Bilyeu - I hope by now the wife has been evaluated for SIBO (Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). "Swollen gut" sounds like the abdominal distension SIBO patients experience.
I love this. Super fascinating stuff!!
Funny thing, I was about to suggest on interviewing this guy but apparently you already knew 😂
Awesome as always! His book is so good and eye opening. And this interview was very nice, it really gave a look what kind of a guy he is like it's not that he says one thing and isn't ready to change his mind if need to be 🤔 very nice
Hi Tom
Amazing job with this new segment on Health covering overall well being with focus on Optimising Brain.👍
I do have a list of people whom you should bring into the show and the first one would be Alex Zhavoronkov of Insilico Medicine.
Person at a level of Elon Musk in Healthcare pushing towards phenomenal transformation.
To put it simple, in last couple of years he did almost the amount work what could be done in a decade.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Amazing video sir........as always.....😊
Yet another great video..
Tell your wife to do intermittent fasting. This will give her gut time to heal and function better when she does eat

@@the_unconventional_Indian77 intermittent fasting and a plant based diet. No animal products. Do this for a year.
YES, another big vote for Intermitten Fasting. Even after Dr. Dean Ornish Reversal Program for Diabetes and Heart Disease (it took two stents to get my attention) I have gained even more taking control of my eating by I.F. I’ve dropped 17lbs. mostly waist fat and sleeping flat & longer after 25 years on a slant due to G.E.R.D. Lots of extra time not preparing and eating sSOooMuch. New bumper sticker: Rushed For Time Slow-Down... and Fast.
raw plant based lifestyle works, thank you kindly for this video
Thanks for this information. Gb..
Inspiring talk. Such an important topic for us all to understand more about.
Thank You So much
Im loveing health theory was very pleased to see a new episode
Glad you like it!
Thanks Tom ❤️ as always killer content
I ate ONCE A DAY, exercise but I still gain weight it’s very frustrating- I gut leaky syndrome due to excessive intake of antibiotics because of my UTI
I'm getting a Fred Willard Fernwood Tonight vibe from the Dr.
Trick your brain by smiling even when you don't feel like it.

Golden Nuggets
If you are chronically stressed you will get cramps, changes speeds of process in gut.
Similarities
Don’t eat while stressed, do meditative breathing while eating, when you are stressed your gut is completely different than when you aren’t stressed.
Books
Brain, gut connection
It's actually the Gut-Microbiota-Brain-Axis
How the hec did we get here? Could there be something wrong with the food/ water? So complex.
Wish I knew this before I did bad things to my gut
Glad our interview was well received! If you want to learn more about the topic, subscribe to the Mind Gut Connection Newsletter by going to emeranmayer.com and click on the pop up subscribe button.
Even though it wasn't the main purpose of this show, the more I watch health theory, the more the universe is telling me to try a keto diet haha
He put me on amptriptylin that it’s antidepressant 4 weeks I didn’t feel good and after the miracle happen not a single pain more in my stomach . But this medicine your gastroenterolog need to put you on and the doctor need to evaluate you first your situation .
What are some of the best probiotics to take?
Keto diet helps anxiety and depression bc its low in insulin raising foods so your blood sugar levels are stable all.day long instead of big spikes and drops
This is my culprit after all these years and that's what caused all of my problems since I was a child 💔 and so now so far. My Bad and habits that I've done and that's the Dark of just that and this video s pretty much about me and I believe in Dr Oz video on sage leaf tea .Alpha Lipoic Acid and Glu companion I guess I have to go back to the video of Dr.Oz
