Her voice have matured so beautifully
I agree!
ye
Her voice is so unique and hard to replicate, so props to the backup singers for being able to blend in with her voice while still sounding different.
One of those back up singer's name is Rozzi Crane, an astonishing vocalist. Check out some of her music if you get a chance 🙏🏾❤️✌🏾
There's something both child-like and very mature about her vocal style. But its so natural and not at all artificial. Definitely one of the most unique singers.
@@bapbirbit's like it's effortless for her. Absolutely incredible.
Billie sure knows how to convey emotion. What an amazing and phenomenal singer. Her melodies and voice hits the heart hard ❤
and soft 😄
ye
I think that this is the first time I’ve heard Billie harmonize with anyone other than Finneas. The arrangement is gorgeous and it’s even more haunting. Belting is great but this feels more emotional and relatable.
Friggin goosebumps and lil tears in my eyes. Her smile at the end, she knows they nailed it.
She really does sing through her breath. And I mean this in the best way. Its like wind playing subtle orchestra. It fills the whole air but it flows through everyone so gently.
I think she rly stepped it up vocally this era. Both on the studio version and the live version. So excited to hear more performances. Love her !
she's young, she's still developing and learning her instrument. Each of her eras have been exceptional as she matures.
She's maturing as a person, and as she does, her artistic skill is developing. This is the best I've ever seen her in a live performance. I can't wait for more. I'm obsessed with this era of Billie. ❤❤
@@Jae-fk9vn Well said. Cant wait either
Gotta say, I’m 49 and sing at church on a weekly basis. When I started singing along with Billie Eilish, and appreciating the softness of my own voice and the quiet dynamics, I feel like it’s made me such a better singer. Like, power and range used to be how I judged whether I did a song well. Having the air behind the quiet notes is the trick! Not easy at all.
It’s haunting.. in the most beautiful way.
I’ve heard of getting ‘cry’ into your vocals for an easy free sound…but rarely seen a crying facial expression like this to accompany it
Ya letting your face do things for different resonances is so key!
You will see and hear it in Yebba’s My Mind live at SOFAR. THIS IS RIGHT UP THERE WITH IT.
@@iamlpinthe312holy cow, never heard of them, but the tears were welled up in my eyes by the 2m mark. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@Marina-vb9by Yebba is a vocal gymnast. I have watched that video at least 200 times since 2019 and it is STILL a punch in the gut with ugly crying ! Check out her other songs. She is amazing!!
I agree. This version is better than the studio. It hits hard on my heart. 💕
My mother used to teach voice lessons. I used to wish so badly that I could sing like her students. When she finally started to teach me to sing it was extremely hard. She even made me wait until I was in high school so I wasn't too young. I learned resonance, projection, expression. I was in choirs, sang solos... I worked hard. Now I'm 55 and even though I am mature, I still struggle to sound the same from day to day. But Billie? At 15 she sounded better than I ever will. Billie's voice is p e r f e c t. Every note, every song, soft or loud, high or low, fast or slow... her voice is exquisite. The only thing that changes how she sounds is how she *wants* to sound, which is as perfect as it gets. She's a prodigy. And I just know somewhere my mother is enjoying every note.
Warm wishes from Minnesota! ❤️❤️❤️
I'm happy to see her using her full voice more often. I like the breathy voice, but lately she's been introducing more variety to her sound. She's talked about learning to sing in more ways in a recent interview.
Did you hear her performance of "What Was I Made for?" at the Grammy's? Not quite as adventurous as this, maybe, but still well worth watching.
great analysis as always chris!! Its also amazing to me how well the backup singers are matching her tone and timbre.
So great to see your reaction to this beautiful performance. This live set gave me a whole new appreciation for this song too.
your reaction and explanation of this special is so accurate and i get shivers every time i listen to this song
Omg and to be in the middle of that creation with each other, so intimate and realtime making that sound totally raw and connected. Those background vocalists, including Finneas … with Billie … sheesh what a thrill to be in the middle of that working together. Now that’s what livin’ is about! Thank you for this.
Your love for sublime perfection is appreciated.
This song is one of my favs. She did phenomenal. Sounds just like the studio version. She is amazing 🙌🏾
Billie is the goddess of female vocalists! Her artistry is unparalleled.
fin and those gorgeous ladies were eating up those background vocals
The girl with a red shirt she’s great frrr
Shivers over shivers ✨ As I continue to discover my voice through your courses and videos I’m constantly pursuing abandonment into the story and emotion of the piece. This analysis is an eye opener for me in that abandonment doesn’t necessarily mean wild and unhinged, as so perfectly demonstrated by performers like Ado. They can also be … haha I’m not even sure what to call it. It’s different yet you see, hear and feel how completely immersed, abandoned, she is in the experience. Seeing you react and then break down what she is doing to get these subtle but intensely moving moments from her performance is soooo helpful. Such a timely example for me. Thanks Chris. 🙏🥰
Her tiny desk concert was amazing, glad you did this one chris ❤ shannon hoon video please and thank you❤
the way she displays incredible superhuman control of her voice throughout this entire set 😵😵😵
I freaking love this song.
Wonderful, thanks Chris. This reminded me in many ways of Ren's "Back on 74" performance, especially with the exquisite matching of multiple vocal tones. I've been watching Billie & Finneas' stripped back live versions of their songs for years now and they just get better and better. I don't think anyone is declaring that "Industry plant Billie Eilish can't sing" anymore LOL. Btw the full 25-min set is stunning (on Amazon Music) and also features Skinny (with string quartet(, L'Amor de ma Vie and Birds of a Feather. Cheers!
Agree with you completely here, and so happy to hear her display this - she is the real deal. So much nuance that could be lost if you’re not really listening. Such discreet navigation and mobility in her singing.
Yeah, I've replayed 6:56 so many times. Very subtle but controlled.
Your opinions are spot on! Couldn't agree more.
I'm hoping she carries back-up singers on tour. I know it's a lot more expensive but I prefer it to a backing track.
This Álbum Is a Freakin Masterpiece !!!!
Definitely. No skips
Me too, I like this version more than the studio
Same
Loved this video! Billie is amazing ❤️
It’s such a masterpiece agh!!😩🤍
this performance was phenomenal, Billie and Finneas know how to capture emotions so incredibly
That is a seriously beautiful, emotive and stunning vocal arrangement. It’s a proper ear worm of a song and loved your breakdown of it. I have a suggestion of a song for you to check out and to break down. There is a Japanese band that I follow and they are called Goodmoon and the song that is stunning is called “ Circus”… I’m in Ireland so Japanese bands are not the norm but they are amazing.
love her voice
She reminds me of Roberta Flack. Not in sound but delivery. Super slow and deliberate
Amazing review!
Her backup singer in red is Rozzi and she has some albums out. I’d love to see you do a review of her songs possibly Tangerine or rock bottom
this should have been the album version
This is my first time watching your reaction/ analysis video and you’ve got a new subscriber! Love how you make it so easy to understand. 😊
I believe many of her live performances are more vibrant, "authentic" than her studio tracks - even though I like most of them' hearing her live is a wholly other thing. Nice reaction/review/analysis. two live performances that you may not be aware of are: 1) Billie's cover of Peggy Lee's "FEVER" July 27, 2022 [Channel SoCalLiveitLive ; Billie also sings "Is that All There is with Debbie Harry [of Blondie fame - its terrific, an older star and younger star enjoying each other's company; 2) covering "Sally's Song" channel: Lucid October 29, 2021 - she also sings "simply meant to be" with Danny Elfman but that is only about 1:10 long. The audio is not the best, but I think it would be good enough to reveiw [Its also on the VENOM channel]
🔵 YES!
man, your head is sooooo shiny!! I am appreciative of it.
Listened to all these wonderful new recordings/albums of 2024 multiple times but Billie‘s x 100. I dance i cry i love everything if we leave #8 out.
Again, these lyrics are kind of special and Queen would say „ its a kind of magic“. „You showed her the world“, „…free in leather“ and „did i cross a line?“ 🥲
Cool new ending with all vocals coming together.
btw, Birds of a feather…my summer version of Last Christmas on the beach in Polo Lauren LOL
thank you so much for this analysis
More Billie Eilish plss
absolutely perfectly executed piece. Perfect harmony, one additional and unnecessary sound would destroy everything. Sometimes a whisper allows you to break down walls, while a scream does nothing
So, what she seems to be doing is keeping the sound in the back or her throat while when you're emulating what you're doing it its moving to the front of your mouth. Keep it in the back of your throat and the feeling of the sound will make more sense for how she's making her style. So, yes she pulls it back but it's also never thrown as far forward as you're doing it.
God Bless Billie and Phineas. Great video!
Rumor has it that this song is about Billie’s friend Devon Lee Carlson. Devon dated The Neighborhood frontman, Jesse Rutherford for 6 years. Devon and Billie were good friends and were in the same social circle for years. But then Billie started dating Jesse in ‘22-’23. Fans think the song is of Billie addressing the situation by comparing herself to Devon and expressing remorse.
…Devon is also the owner of Wildflower phone cases.
First!? haha, great song and analysis Chris!! 💪🏻
I loved this video/review/explanation. I am not technically minded and therfore, I didn't appreciate Billie as much as I should of, my bad! Thank you for helping 🤗💙
I'm reaching out for your prayers and support. Please keep me in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.
you should react to your fans music great video
I had to subscribe! I love your input
And singing techniques! I’m a singer so it caught my attention
Beautiful ❤❤🎉😊
isso é ARTE
Can you make a video about Dax riggs vocal techniques on Acid Bath songs? he is my favorite singer and i never found any video about his type of vocals.
As a singer people think is easy to try to imitate her style it’s soooo HARD and very against normal pop singing
Soooo cooool🎉😊
Hey Chris, Jinjer just released a new song called Someone's Daughter. She focuses more on her cleans, and she really does shine. My question is, will you do a reaction to it? I'd love to hear your breakdown/analysis as I'm sure others here would love that, too.
I just released a video on someone’s daughter TODAY … a few hours ago. It’s the latest video on my channel!
also, I've been working on my mixed voice for a while now, but I had never recorded it until recently, and after doing so I was so confused. it sounds identical to my headvoice/falsetto on recording. it FEELS totally different and sounds different in my head (likely because the resonance). Is it just that I have to develop it more? or do you think I'm doing something wrong?
I’d have to hear what you’re doing to offer you valuable feedback. Have you considered trying my coaching program? It’s called Sing Together 365 and is available to check out at mymusicalvoice.com
@@chrisliepe I have considered it, all of your videos have helped me soo much! I'm a little hesitant because I do have a teacher/coach already, its just some of the classical insights she gives me don't totally apply to everything I'm interested, I might end up enrolling soon though!
i dont know about you guys but i think it would be awesome if he made a q&a video
😎💕
hey chris, i love your videos, can you please do a tutorial on that really high soft head distortion blackie lawless from wasp uses and generally his technique,? you can hear it in songs like sleeping in the fire(acoustic) or either on gypsy meets the boy.
You should check out "no promises to keep" from loren allred
when i listen to these live performances, i'm left thinking that all the comping she does may be a waste of time. i get wanting the final, recorded product to be exactly as it sounds in your head, but when it gets down to splitting up syllables with different takes, i wonder if it's necessary. clearly, she can do it live in one take. i think they did two takes of these songs and edited them together for the result we see, but i bet the parts we didn't see were still really good.
that's what I was left thinking too!
The purpose of comping is not to produce the perfect recording but to discover the perfect composition to perform to. Most producers don't give adequate importance to this part at all. For each of those slides, for example, Billie would've tried dozens of variations and settled on the final one based on herself comping.
@@vp4744 this is a VERY good point. I learn SO much by going line by line or comping in the studio. It's the best education for revealing what's possible for me when I go to sing it all in one take. Spot on
I would love to see you react to an early performance of “idontwanttobeyouanymore” Live on Colors. It’s what solidified me as a Billie fan. Her slides were impeccable then and they have gotten even better. She has worked on her vocal skills and techniques and it definitely shows on her latest album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. She still has some of the same breathyness but the slides, the runs, the belts, the vibrato , ALL OF IT IS NEXT LEVEL. This is the first time I’ve heard her use BGV and harmonize with not just Finneas. And the arrangement is slightly different and they added the rounds at the last part.
And just like Ren, her facial expressions match her vocalization of the lyrics, and it’s beautiful and haunting and you can FEEL THE EMOTIONS SHE IS EMOTING.
Thought I srarted playing a doug demuro video with that intro😂
Pleaseeeee do Chappell roan good luck babe live!
Why your voice sounds like Mr Grue from the Minions show😂❤
Gru and minions are huge inspirations for me :)
Great reaction. BTW, there's a new Ren you haven't reacted to yet. It's a good one, if you feel like it.
Do a lil peep reaction star shopping
Hey chris! I really love your reactions😅, you should give a listen to "Undefeatable" or "I'm here" from sonic frontiers ft. Kellin Quinn, I think you might like those two!
Thx Chris! I hear a little bit vocal fry and vibrato at the same time at the end of the notes. Her talent is out of reach ❤
Damn he's hot
You should listen to L’amour -it was even better
React lana del rey
Can you do this on prince
The band VOWER released their first EP recently and the Singer released a vocal play through of the song SHROUD. He is very expressional with his sound and face. I guess you would like it. And I would love to see a video about a breakdown of the different techniques he uses :D

Please react to attack on titan suite the vocalists in that are absolutely amazing
The whole video is a musical masterpiece
Hey Chris could you react to Fatale Gemn by Tatsuya Kitani
Billie and Finneas are savants. Its that simple.
PLEASE LISTEN TO MEJIBRAY
I don't really like Billie Eilish but credit where it's due, she has her own style and does some impressive things.
still don't get her. Sorry.. But thank You for another heartfelt video
Danggggg. I could see you saying that with the original, but after watching this, you still don’t? To each their own, right? But to me this is wildly musical and nuanced. I feel like these types of videos are usually what make people say “woah I get it now”
No hate! Just super intriguing
@@TW_Drums This is just a light version of Amy Winehouse. Pay attention to "Back to Black" slides and vibratos at the end of the verse. It is same thing Billie does, is nothing original. But Billie has a great producer behind her (Finneas) that made a masterpiece on her first album. An album that basically defined the sound of the 2010s, it fit perfectly well on that decade.
If Billie started RIGHT NOW with this kind of songs (on this video) she would be just "another one"
@@TW_Drums I'm sure you like autotune singers.
Okay, just watched this video again.
I think Chris sees this singing as more dynamic and more nuanced than it actually is. I get the feeling Chris will sing this song better than the original.
And yep "No hate" ✌
@@GeorgeCardoso-mh2ei it's always a dude who feels the need to undercut a woman and attribute her success to a man. what's wrong, pookie? have you listened to finneas' own music? it's competent. finneas + BILLIE!!! is the magic. you guys always wanna take her out of the equation. i see it all the time with you fools. billie IS the secret sauce. cry about it.
