Hope you guys found this one useful! Just a raw video of the comparisons of the different cell activator ingredients. Maybe next year I will learn how to pronounce floetrol 🤣🤣🤣. As always, happy painting! ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for this analysis. Believe it or not just today I was in my studio experimenting with additives to the American floetrol in order to get the same results as the Australian floetrol, because I can't in good conscience keep paying such exorbitant amounts for this bloom gold. The minwax is okay, but not exactly the same effect. Now the water and Amsterdam white?! Wow! I'm getting out of bed right now to go try it. Invaluable info!!! Thanks! ❤️
The Amsterdam & Water is awesome! Thank you so much for doing this experiment, you have made it affordable and have the same if not better then the Shelee technique. I truly appreciate all the experiments you have done for us, as many cannot afford to do these experiments, thank you Molly.
I'm not sure if I've misunderstood, but despite the cell activator now only needing to be Amsterdam plus water, don't you _still_ need all the mixing paraphernalia products, because you still have to create a Pouring Medium to dilute the paints before you even start? PM needs Floetrol, GAC800, gloss medium, varnish etc, yes...? The cell activator bit is relatively tiny compared to the volume of PM needed for each pour. As I say, it's possible I've missed something important en route here, but I'm relatively new to this, and still trying to understand it all! 🤗
13:59 Hi Molly, the Amsterdam white and water is just the cell activator and a process separate from thinning your paints for a pour? The thinning of the paint is done separately using what ever recipe one uses as a pouring medium, such as Floetrol, varnish, GAC 800or whatever a person uses to thin paint? Thank you for the lesson it’s easy to see what cell activator works best!
I just wanted to say thank you for this video. I am probably much like everyone else who stumbled upon this art form and then fumbled for a month or so with recipes to make the ingredients react a certain way to produce the coveted cells, buying a bunch of stuff . Trying to find one recipe by sifting through all of the visual material available is time consuming and while every video I watched provided more ideas I just wanted a base point to start at, a constant, something to turn to when nothing I experimented with that day worked. Your video summed up the basics of how to repeatedly produce pouring medium and activator combo from fairly common ingredients that will do the same thing every time. I took the course after the fact but you were the little light bulb that initially went on in my head with your technique. Thank you
Blowing differently on each canvas is what's causing the difference in cells also. I just got my American floetrol package today, I'm soooo disappointed that I didn't know to look into different kinds of floetrol, I don't even want to open the bottles. Thank you for your informative videos my dear, much love sent your way from Canada❤
So next experiment, it would be interesting to know the difference in results using Amsterdam and water, golden and water, Liquitex and water, house paint and water.
Wow! Cosmic! I got my paints. I got my canvases, blow dryer, torch, dollar store stuff, apron, puppy pads, and floor tarp. Everything but my medium. Well done Molly! You saved me ! You’ve given me a medium ! I love it! Thank you ! I’m ready to start painting. I have Amsterdam paints including white! WooHoo
This is just the cell activator though, isn't it? Rather than the medium used to dilute the paints, which we'd still need to get. Looking at Molly's description box, she's still using Floetrol, GAC800, gloss medium, and varnish in her Pouring Medium for all these examples, no? 🥴
This was incredibly helpful to see the side by side comparison! I've been reticent to try the bloom recipes I've seen because of the sheer numbers of specific ingredients required, so this video gives me hope!!!
The Australian Flotrall was my favourite and the Amsterdam Acrylic as well. They just made the most beautiful patterns and show the colours much better.
Molly...Molly...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS. I only had Amsterdam Sky Blue ...and it worked. I am done with all the other products. I love all your help. Thank you soooo much
Hi Molly & thanks for this tutorial. It took me several months to finally figure out that there are three different mixing methods & ratios per each painting. -base pillow paint -cell activator -colored paints That would be so helpful if you did a video on explaining which each one does what & how along with a precise recipes for each individual phase of the process. Just an idea that would be very helpful in separating those three components.
Thanks for the instructional video, as always Molly. I usually paint with the Rinske model of Amsterdam or W-N paints just mixed with water and/or with water and a little Floetrol. Have you tried all the paints mixed with your medium mixture vs mixed with water? Would be interested in a video that shows the differences.
I love that you do these tests and show us beginners. Thank you so very much. I'm from Australia so I'm a little parcial to our Floetrol, however I do like the Amsterdam one also.
Wow, I think you just broke my brain. I would have never thought to try just the paint and water. I just spent a month convincing my husband to be ok with ordering the Australian floetrol, so I am very happy that you did this! You Rock!! Hope you are staying cool down there on the surface of the sun! Stay safe!
Molly, found this EXTREEEEMEEELY helpful, I honestly don't want to have to buy so many different products to "try" this technique, for making a "pillow" then "ca", there are so many videos on this and they're all different in one way or another, Thank you, Thank you for doing what you do, I'm feeling more confident in trying this.
I’m so glad I found this video! I would love to try the bloom technique but when I saw the recipes some North American artists use because we don’t have Australian Floetrol my reaction was best summed up as 😳. I stopped taking notes about half way through their videos! My professional career was spent working in a lab. This is supposed to be a leisure retirement hobby not more lab work! Now I know I can give this a try without stressing about obtaining some 7 different ingredients! Thank you so much.
Thank you Molly!! It definitely shows the differences between them all - Do all know if all the Amsterdam paints react that way or just the white?.... thank you for all your clips - love watching them
This definitely was an awesome experiment Molly! Look how easy was for you to create cells, actually with all of them! I loved the Aussie mix and the last with Water & Amsterdam. I guess it doesn't matter how you mixed your paints since the cell activator was what created the Shelee Bloom! Fabulous! Thank you so much Molly! You're the bomb! 😁Keep well dear Molly! 🙏Love you, 😊Bunny🐇💗😍 P.S. They were beautiful...as usual!
Thank you so much for all that you share with us. Beginning a newbie I surely didn't want to pay the price of Australian floetrol. You really make it so enjoyable watching your videos and they are so informative, so again Thank You
Very interesting and thank you for including Australia. I wish we could get the same paints as you have in the US. Not surprising I will vote for the third one 🇦🇺👍🎨😊
Great experiment! Will definitely try without the Aussie Floetrol because...$$$! The bleeding you mentioned is desirable though-the watercolor effect-it looks amazing dry!
Thank you Karen! Let me know what you find. I know you have the aussie, try with just the amsterdam amd water, keep it thick and let me know. I have no doubt you will.come up with something gorgeous as you always do!
Been testing too. Autralian Floetrol not being available, the ususal Floetrol being very expensive here in the Netherlands, the most logical choice for me was Amsterdam & water. Gave great results. Thanks for your experiments, Molly. Love watching you :-) Stay healthy!

Molly I totally agree. Number 4 is the best one. I love it. So so much better then the others ones. Thank you for sharing. Very educational. Good job girl.
I am based in the UK Ihave watched so many videos so many ingredients and got totally confused. The activator is my biggest fear and this has been so helpful. Thankyou 👍😁
Thank you Molly !! Your videos are so educational and doing these comparison helps so much to decide which to buy. The amsterdam is also my favorite!!💕😍
Thank you so much, Molly! A most useful video. Depending on what effect you want, you can really zero in on the mix to use. So glad the Amsterdam white was similar to the aussie floetrol. I am in a small town in Mexico and although we can get many things, australian floetrol is not one of them! Saludos amiga y muchas gracias!
Hi Molly! I, too, took the SheleeArt course. However, I tried everything she said, including all the troubleshooting, and had no success. Today, I tried your medium recipe, along with the Amsterdam/water cell maker. Success at last! I also tried putting down the pillow of semigloss house paint, along with the colors with your medium, and the Amsterdam/water cell maker. OMG! Even better results! I can’t thank you enough for your experiments, tutorials, and painting demos! I am “so in love”! 😁🤗

Really learned a lot and verrrrrry much want some Amsterdam paint! I'd just purchased a small can of the Minwax wood conditioner today. Thank you for your videos! Just started painting again a couple of months ago and have fallen hopelessly in love with fluid art!
OMG!! I'm sooo glad I just found this video! I've had a $120 including shipping liter of AUS Floetrol sitting in my Ebay cart for weeks and just couldn't bring myself to pay that. I'm glad I held off. And I already have Amsterdam White! I've been using US floetrol and wood conditioner, it's not bad. But, I don't get the cells within cells look I really want. THANK YOU!!! :D
Hi, I'm a new starter, so don't know much. But I think the Amsterdam was the best. I want to thank you for posting this video. I'm living in Japan, but will be looking forward to your videos.
Thanks Molly. I really appreciate this. Things like Flotrol are an actual investment for me. And I was totally curious what would be the best option. I love the Amsterdam too. I think that will be the route I go.
Thank you! The key of the Dutch pour is imo also in the Titanium white. Because of the weight of the paint it pushes other colours up, hence the cell effects. I have worked with the TW with water for some months but when going larger than a tile the lines dissolve more. So then I added woodglue to it, those results were also great but Australian Floetrol really is a gamechanger because the webbing and cells stay much more crisp when going big (20"/50cm) It is expensive, but worth it imho. I hope my experience helps you and others more, and always enjoy your work. Happy painting from the Netherlands! 😍
Love your channel! Been really getting into pour painting and you and Olga Solby have been the perfect teachers for every step of the way! Your art is amazing btw! Thank you for sharing and always teaching and inspiring! 💜🖼
Hi Molly What an informational presentation. That's a mouthful.LOL The Australian and Amsterdam pieces are my favorites. The lacing and colors are so much more prominent. Great video. Leta👌👌👌
I actually really like all 4 for different reasons. I think the ones with more white would be great for doing ocean type scenes where you want that seafoam effect and the thinner webbing style would be cool for space-scapes and nebula type of effects.
This was very helpful. I will be starting fluid art once I relocate. I am just in learning mode right now. I was concerned about needing Australian floetrol. Maybe not.
All of these are cool and beautiful in their own way , my favorite is a battle between Amsterdam and the Australian Flotrol. Money wise Kim going with Amsterdam . Thank you for this info.
The Amsterdam & Water piece is Amazing!!! What a great way to save a ton of money on Australian Floetrol & almost get even better results! Who Knew? Gotta try this asap. Thanks Molly!

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! They are all helpful for everyone!
I like the shine you got on the Amsterdam before even putting any varnish or finisher on it. That's awesome!
Love your channel! Been really getting into pour painting and you and Olga Solby have been the perfect teachers for every step of the way! Your art is amazing btw! Thank you for sharing and always teaching and inspiring! 💜🖼
You are so welcome!
Totally agree! Olga and Molly are the best. Thank yo so much!
Whoa!!! That was amazing! Specially the last one with Amsterdam plus water! Thanks a lot for sharing this!
you are so welcome!
Thanks for the comparing. Just got Amsterdam pouring medium and had good results. Can’t find floetrol where I live.
Wow that is amazing. I like the last one Amsterdam titanium white and water.
Newbie here and I enjoy your method of teaching and over all attitude. Thank you
You are so welcome!
Just saved me some money now ill use Amsterdam and water. Thanks Molly
Love the Amsterdam paint with just water!!!!
Good evening, l love the last two, but Amsterdam is the winner, you are so skilful and make this look so easy that I must experiment. Thank you. 💕💕
That was hugely helpful thanks, Molly. Living in U.K. it’s terribly expensive to get Aus floetrol so this is v reassuring! 😊
Great comparison, Molly. I think my favorite effect is with the Amsterdam 👍
I would love to see something with glitter paint, please.
Thank you.
Amsterdam is the best. Very helpful!
Hi Molly
What an informational presentation. That's a mouthful.LOL The Australian and Amsterdam pieces are my favorites. The lacing and colors are so much more prominent. Great video. Leta👌👌👌
Thank you!
Molly that was fascinating, I can’t wait to try the Andy’s.white and water
I actually really like all 4 for different reasons. I think the ones with more white would be great for doing ocean type scenes where you want that seafoam effect and the thinner webbing style would be cool for space-scapes and nebula type of effects.
This was very helpful. I will be starting fluid art once I relocate. I am just in learning mode right now. I was concerned about needing Australian floetrol. Maybe not.
Definitely helpful!! Thank you so much for showing all 4!
Love the last two Molly. Great experiment. Glenis
Thank you very much
They are all super cool!!! But I’m tied between the last two!! I love the way all the colors popped in the last one though!! ❤️❤️❤️
WOW! Molly so helpful and would save bundles of money. Thanks so much for your info. and trying the different test!!!
Thank you so much. I tried satin house paint and water to do this but I think mine was to thin. But wanted to try lol
Amsterdam has my vote. Thank you so much Molly. I love your paintings. You are great.
