BB’s back and I think this is her best adventure yet! If you’ve never heard of the “Of The Killer” series before, they’re a series of standalone stories following the weird adventures of a girl called BB. I’ve linked a full playlist of her games at the end of the video if you want to check out the rest (they’re self-contained stories so it doesn’t matter which way around you watch them).
Yes!! B.B. has become a nice recurring character in the games you play on your channel. Having her in the intro felt like the culmination of a long time joke. I am glad to see more of the fantastic Strange Town series get atte tion on this channel.
I love how BB sees a regular human house and thinks it's the most disturbing piece of architecture she's ever seen. It really hits home on how surreal and odd her world is.
Actually, her comments about the odd layout of the house are accurate, that building looked like a house but actually made no sense (for example, you had to go through the bathroom to get to the bedroom, etc.). It's as if you remembered a house from a dream, the grand details are all there but it gets messy the moment you start looking at the finer details.
@@asgoritolinasgoritolino7708 The bedroom had two doors - one to the bathroom (which B.B. went through, as it was open,) and one to the hallway (which was closed.) You can see the closed door on the left at 20:36. *EDIT:* Made comment clearer.
This entry goes for a lot of different stuff from the usual "Killer" games, but that works to its advantage. Even though it may be the most disconnected from the series' overarching plot (the "night space" and giant red eye may imply that The Killer's patron deity is empowering The Spook, but that's sort of irrelevant), it's still a fascinating character study of BB, Marcie, and the inherent folly of consumer analytics. I appreciate that Marcie is like a bad future version of BB who's teamed up with her Killer. Very well done on all fronts, and I appreciate the extra effort in ABG's own intro and outro. What really gets me is that Marcie may have stumbled into what she desired all along with the Dream Resort, as was alluded to in her final speech. She'd found a passion that would have brought like-minded customers in from BB's murder-crazed world, but her fear of repeating her past mistakes was just too strong, and she would rather feed herself into a formless mass of data than face what's right in front of her. It's a surprisingly real tragedy for a creative to misinterpret failure and be sucked deep into the business side of of their work, meshing well with this series' themes. At least, that's my reading. I also love how BB was able to defeat these antagonists by simply being herself. Both were physically frail and more interested in observing her then killing her, so her indecisiveness proved to be their undoing. BB was the perfect refutation to Marcie's philosophy, and she would rather die than accept that her search for the secret truths of advertisers was pointless. And Pumpkin Summer was incredible, of course.
I feel like the series outdoes itself with each game. This one is definitely my favourite so far, everything comes together perfectly. The ambient OST, and even more surreal environments than usual really capture the dreamlike feel. And the juxtaposition of PUMPKIN SUMMER absolutely killed me
Yeah, I totally agree. The environmental design and soundtrack in this one were killer. And that Pumpkin Summer section cracked me up. Awesome stuff! :)
This is my favorite 'of the Killer' yet, and by a wide margin. All the changing environments that don't fit the style, the different filters used for how you see things, it gives it a really suffocating vibe. Which is fitting, given the horror is coming from advertising that pretends to know what you want. It's okay BB, you can have Cha-Cha the Tree Frog, no one is judging you.
I feel like most of us like to be at the camp fire with you and any of the special guests you bring for the story/game. I just roast meat over the fire though. 🌭
It's true: if we're bombarded so much with messaging about what we should want from advertisers who profit off us wanting what they have, do we even know what we want any more? Or is it more comforting to just put on the metal mask of the advertising machine like Marcie and let yourself be told what to want? Either way, Amazon and Google been real quiet since this one dropped...
Cap italism destroys everything it touches. It even absorbs and twist things meant to criticize it to turn it into profit. The scariest thing is that sooner or later there WILL BE a murder market: murder fantasy p orn, murder s ex dolls, murder themed decor (technically Halloweeen), murderer romance novels, get murdered in your dream resort spot tours, etc.
There’s just something about BB that makes me wanna share my secret stash of soda with her. Part of it is because of the crap the poor girl goes through
Just realized that the other guest reviewers (starting at 11:30, others named 11:49) seem to have ended up killed and used as dummies for the "Pumpkin Summer" portion. CC, who talks to BB through the mirror, is at 21:40. JJ shows up at 22:50, HH shows up at 23:16, II's head is at 23:31. Then again, BB's games are so bizarre that I'm not sure if "Pumpkin Summer" is just an involuntary hallucination.
I cannot express how much I love these games and your playthroughs. The weird "What if Rodney Greenblat made a combination of Cruelty Squad and Paper Mario" aesthetic, the writing/dialogue of all the characters that's always so charming, all of it is just such a treat. Loved the little intro you made as well for this.
This series represents something special to me. It's possibly one of the greatest pieces of surreal art I've ever experienced - an unfathomably huge mass of abandoned sub-basements and winding corridors, always reaching, always hinting, giving you tiny fragments of clues that are enlightening yet never enough to fully grasp the greater picture. A shaded world that seemingly only revolves around death, death as a culture, death as a lifestyle, death as an art form, death as a form of personal fulfillment; all built upon the corpses of forgotten trillions. Only one message is ever clear: "You will never understand." My only theory is that "The Killer" (who doesn't appear in this one!) is a physical manifestation of death itself. He takes the form of a raven because he literally feeds off of death, and his reality-warping powers are the reason the world has become the way it is. Or something like that.
I interpreted the Killer as a symbolic embodiment of human cruelty that defies all human attempts to understand it, work with it, commodify it, or make sense of it through art. And I'm pretty sure (considering the hooked beak and "ruff" of feathers he has in his most detailed appearance in Hands) that he's supposed to be a vulture, to tie into the series's theme of capitalism and the exploitation of tragedy that takes place under it-- but with a series like this, there's lots of room for interpretation.
If I underatand it correctly, The Killer is the greatest serial killer in Bebe's world's history, and nobody knows who or what he actually is. Supernatural and the occult are absolutely real, and so commonplace its mundane. ("Oh my neighbors were skinned ritualistically, turned into macabre party hats, and sold at the local Halloween store? And the store is run by vengeful ghosts? Ugh, again?!") Serial killers and cops seem to be entirely different species from regular people and not just titles.
This was pretty good as an episode. I like how there's a sub-theme about the cynical use of nostalgia in advertising, like the beloved cult classic zine getting a soulless sequel a decade after its release, and how a lot of the items used for rating are typically nostalgic items.
I think one of my favorite parts of this series is that you can see the exploration of media in every episode. More 3d here, different narratives, camera changes, music expansion. Every episode is it's own stone on this artist's creative hike. This world they built is so charming and alarming that the changes seem almost necessary to match the concept; The world is simply too bizarre not to change a little every time we get to see it. So for once the visible change in skill and taste actually feeds the whole series. It's awesome.
These games feel as if the creator traveled to a different world and wanted to share with us everything they saw, but couldn’t directly say exactly so they present it to us as games.
Thnaks to the new intro, ABG and BB can finally meet and share a nice evertoasted marshmallow. This might have been my favorite so far. And the Killer wasn't even in it!
Loved this one. The surveys were all really good and I enjoyed the twisting nightmare imagery of the dream world. The Pumpkin Summer section was probably the best part though, definitely got a laugh.
oh my fucking god, 12:25, in, i thought that was the phone to my room. ffs. lol its taken me a bit to piece it together, but i think i finally figured it out, this series, of the two i have watched so far, have either uncanny dystopic aesthetic, or dystopic uncanny aesthetic, and i dunno which would be more accurate, but its like an alternate universe where patterns, fashion, and various visual stimuli are off, like a rejection and defiance of what we comprehend, its many patterns and overstimulation of the eyes, no flat color planes, and then you go into the dialogue, the questionnaires and such, the exam, its comprised of normal objects, but in ways and perspectives to make it fundamentally off, abnormal, and yet its posed as if this was the common sense. like the world being 'wrong' to our perspective is normal. dystopic, uncanny. and its everywhere.
oh god his screaming is the sound of a dry dry finger rubbing the inside of a glass jar! augh its so bad! its so weird! to be fair, you shouldn't take pleasure in anyone screaming... even if you believe them a murderous trashbag with the intent to stuff you into a garbage chest portal.
