"Don't look bored, don't look bored, shake your head every now and then. Man I'm not even sweating, shake your head Bastian, there we go"
"I wonder if catering still has dinner out. I could eat."
"man I really want the PS5 but all the other guys are getting the Xbox S"
He looks so relaxed, like it's not even hard. Awesome.
He is not even sweating. He is weating a hoodie also. Perfect Technique. Flawless playing.
Hell yeah! Dude shreds and he's actually Dirk Verbeuren's student. :)
And is now officially Soilwork's new drummer.
This is the shit!...Bastian, Dirk...but never forget Henry Ranta, he was the first leading the great drum Throne of Soilwork, honestly, 3 BEAST drummers, these 3 guys are the shit!!!
Nah the first record was Jimmy Persson on drums
Henry Ranta kinda set the overall feeling of how Soilwork drums should sound.
@@pixelbasedlifeforms I totally agree
All we know is Bastian is the touring drummer while Dirk works with Megadeth.
+Isaac Zaladar lol
Isaac Zaladar Huh?
My faith in humanity dies a little bit more each time i read comments on youtube :(
Isaac Zaladar good job. I'm sure you feel the same way with Chris Adler, "(POOPY DIAPER) GRRR HE BETRAYED LAMB OF GOD, MOMMY WHY WOULD THEY LET HIM BACK WITH THE BAND!?"
Isaac Zaladar okay, you want to "kill him" because taking lives is nothing personal
I just keep coming back here over and over again! Hes only 24 years old and shreds like an old man!
I'm immensely impressed by Bastians drumming. Not only is he a great drummer, but he makes it look effortless and that makes it a great pleasure watching this! Rock on!!!
These comments here are so stupid and embarassing.. shut up with all this no feel, no power bullshit. He is a great drummer in his own rights. It is his way of playing the song.. so what? Show us how you play the song when you get elected to be Soil Works next touring drummer.
RIP to '99 through '03 Soilwork. Never forget.
Henry Ranta wrote some pretty cool drum parts
He's my all time favorite drummer. I now affectionately call him the Jeff porcaro of metal.
Can't wait to hear him laying down some tracks in the studio.
Dude prepared his whole life for this. He’s killing it!
Awesome playing! He knows what he's doing for sure!
This makes me miss Henry Ranta.
Henry was the best fit for this band. His drum playing complainted their guitar style.
@@JavierGarcia-kb1no complimented his drum style.
Yes! Henry was such a beast behind the kit, I wonder what he's doing these days. Definitely my favorite from Soilwork's drummers.
Solid work, Bastian! That was great!
love that pop of the snare
This dude is awesome! Real nice stick height on those blast beats.
Bastian is killing it. Great work.
Man...finding out that Dirk left Soilwork for good makes me very sad. His drumming was part of what I love about the band. I'm glad his replacement seems very capable though. We'll have to see what he brings to the table next album. He might surprise us.
Kit sounds absolutely gigantic. Amazing
"Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Alright! Let's go!" -Bjorn "Speed" Strid
yeahh! awesome work! very hard to do soilwork songs! This guy is really good being very young
Very impressive performance! I must say that Dirk is one of my all time favorite drummers and I feel he could put a little more soul into his live performance, but this guy is still very young and fresh to the band, so I'm excited what he will bring to the table. Go Bastian!
biggest thing to realize here - the sounds is coming direct from the desk - it will sound nothing like that front of house. This is a mix for the video to showcase the drummers sound, not the band ^^
Good work!
I love how Sven watches the fills after the solo section. :)
that was unexpectedly good, he is skilled drummer. Dirk is a beast, but i can't say that Bastian is worse. he plays in a bit different manner, but obviously very good
I see Dirk the same way as I do Nicholas Barker, they both had feel and groove that no one else quite matched before or after
Fucking hard Job to fill Dirk's place. Major respect for This Guy !!!
that was particularly vicious. good stuff. i actually like the snare sound. very distinct.
damn where did they find this Kid? He nailed that song.
He's one of Dirk's students
The way things worked with this young drummer and Soilwork reminds of the drummer who is now playing with Borknagar
Played very well, and I'm glad he stayed pretty true to the original; I didn't notice anything different from the album ;p. I loved Dirk's style, listened to Soilwork most of the time throughout high school, haha.
Dirk didn't write this song.
reminds me......need to get tickets for the Dublin show
Good snare drum !
essa afinação da caixa ficou Top!
Old school song. I remember this song cause a guy from my High School covered it on guitar
He’s thinking “I could be home watching Netflix and eating a whole cheesecake by myself”
I was there that night. I believe I talked to the person filming this a bit :-)
Bravissimo
nice the PDP Concept Maple !,,!.
great performance and technic, it's fun to watch! snare sound sucks tho
Not a fan of the snare sound, but a really solid performance!
ChaosPotato I was thinking the same thing. I think there is a Kevlar head on there. Sounds like a wood block. Totally disappears when he's blasting.
yeah, thats the evans hybrid head, its made with kevlar, and its tuned quite high.
Things sounds like a marching band snare.
Dont think thats the same sound thats going out to the crowd.
High tuning is pretty much a prerequisite of playing fast blast, you need the tension and rebound.
Shit the dude plays in a hoodie!! Does he ever break a sweat while playing ?
Litige I was wondering the same thing 😂
waa i love that sound of snare *_*
said noone ever! :D
PDP DRUMS !,,!. I LOVE PDP
I don't think that's his drum kit, I have seen a bunch of videos on his channel where he plays on Mapex Saturn IV and where the sound is super solid.
good
The guy is good but lack of flow is killing him specially on a Henry Ranta’s track. Still better than Nerve from Bloodfest... that was terrible
👀👌👌
😈😈😈🆙
00:41 They tease him :)
I liked this video just because of the snare
😮 I M P R E S S I V E 😮
I thought it was great. Very clean. Very tight. Looked a little nervous but a good performance.
he is good!!!, needs to feel more what he plays though
Fuuuuuuck yeah Bastian. 👊🏻
that's jordan mancino's drumkit :))
Solid drummer all around, but holy hell, is that a piccolo snare?! Because jesus it's cranked!
Lars will love him...
This kid does what Dirk does but without breaking a sweat.
Andre N
True, but his playing is boring and his snare sucks. No excitement or power in his playing.
Exactly! if you cant tell how much groove this drummer lacks, you dont really know music :\
Jason M Dirk is more theatrical. I like watching Dirk playing but I don't think he is necessarily a better drummer. People will start paying attention to Bastion when Soilwork releases the next studio album.
snare????? model
I thought he did really well. Solid performance, nice technique et cetera. But the snare sound should be improved a little because in the blasting parts it goes "dead".
what kind of snare is it?
usk ho - 14x5 Mapex Black Panther Black Widow with an Evans Hybrid batter head. I have 10 different snare drums including several professional model Ludwigs and DWs. It’s still the best sounding snare that I have. You could pick this up and another one by them called the sledge hammer and be set for anything that you need.
You've got to love 0:44 ahahah
Proud as a Dane that Bastian joined Soilwork, but why did he pick Lars Ulrich as inspiration for his snare sound?!
drums without life
dude's all business
Please someone says Bastian is temporary. Verbueren belongs to Soilwork.
All we know is Bastian is the touring drummer while Dirk works with Megadeth.
sickdrummermagazine - I was under the impression Dirk left Soilwork since Megadeth announced he was a permanent member.
Altay Bayraktar - I just double checked, it was announced that Dirk quit back in July. loved his work with Soilwork, but this guy seems more than capable. at least he was an actual student of Dirk. We'll see what he's really made of when the next record comes out.
Altay Bayraktar dirk tam takim megadethte soilworkten ayrildigini ogrenince dinleyesim kalmamisti da yeni ogrendim yeni bateristlerini sardi bayaa
Dirk is completely out of Soilwork and full time with Megadeth.
How the fuck do you play a show with a sweater??
gonna echo what everyone else here is saying, his technique is great. dirk made a good choice with this kid, his kit sounds a bit odd though. probably just the recording. hopefully. my worry is that he won't be able to write drum tracks as well as dirk. time will tell i guess.
I can't witht hat snare as a primary
Dude has a killer technique but i feel like he´s a little bit too posh :D
The guy plays really good come on, give him a little more time and he'll be blasting our ears
I can't recall ever seeing a metal drummer looking less metal while playing!
Låsupp Pryltokig While you are crying about looks, I enjoy the playing. And it's amazing.
Performance > looks
Do you know Brann Dailor?
Loved Dirk. And to be honest - if he thinks Bastian is ready to go, i'm not going to argue with him. Pretty disappointing to hear people commenting on how he looks, "not metal", "too posh" etc. They're not Kiss. They don't all have to dress the same. Looking forward to seeing what he does for the new album.
I swear there's a different guitarist or two with every live version. Where's the bald bearded guitarist? Off Ride Majestic?
He's a doctor, too.
What china cymbal is that? Fucking wow.
DFKNG Zildjian A Ultra Hammered China :-)
OllieSvensson I need it in my life lol
It's pretty awesome in person. Trashy like a china should be, not heavy and dingy like the A custom china. They have the Mega Bell ride, hats, and crashes in the same line/alloy, too.
Concept Maple!
Jordisons snare ?
EvoSvex no Joey's snare is like 8 inches deep and this one is only 6 or so.
Joey's snare is 13"x6.5". And yes, it's Jordison's snare, I use it too
It's still not Joey's snare. It has silver hardware so unless he went in and changed every single lug and hoop, it's a different snare. And I think it sounds different, even with the hybrid head.
Pearl remake the design when Joey left Slipknot. I might be wrong, but I think it's Joey's snare
guys, it's a mapex nomad - will calhoun's snare. just look up a pic of it.
Guitarist here. Someone please explain how you can tell if he is playing with groove or not. Hes playing the song the way its supposed to be played, no? Its not like guitar where you can distinguish different players by listening to their technical nuances; things like the way they bend, and use vibrato, are things that are human characteristics and can make players identifiable. Im not sure how to translate what im trying to say over drumming. How is he not playing this with groove or punch or passion or whatever? Is this something you can only tell by watching him play or could you still tell by just listening?
zackattack94 i watched a few and i still dont get it.
Unleash The Fury I feel the same. I'm also a guitarist and it seems like he's playing the song fine. He could move a bit more but the playing seems fine to me. People are saying he's not playing with speed and I'm like "wtf?" Like he's playing the song at the same tempo as everyone else is, I don't see the issue.
Bastian is playing the song wonderfully, and he is a phenominal drummer.
He nails all of the songs Henry and Dirk wrote, and he looks supremely comfortable doing it.
Everyone was just ass sore about Dirk going to Megadeth.
Which, more power to him. I am happy for him financially, and he gave one of his students a spot on the global stage.
Dirk would not have passed on the torch if he felt Bastian were not worthy, and I am looking forward to what Bastian contributes to the Soilwork legacy.
Cheers.
it look f*****to easy its ridiculous
great drumming, but that snare...
Well, very few things are off - and those things are in the tiny details. To me it sounds like Björn could benefit from some more cardio training, since he's draining the feel in the chorus. Also that lead guitar is not very "spot-on". Bastians drumming is dedicated and focused.
Björn said it himself (Don't quote me on that, but I believe it was in the extras for their Live In Helsinki gig) he was pretty out of shape during 2016 and said he needed some exercise. Also, that first part of the solo is tough as nails; not ever Peter himself pulled if off perfectly every time, so you'd expect other players to give it their personal take. I don't know who this particular guy next to Sylvain is, but David can handle it most of the time.
Why is it soo easy for him? He looks like he is about to go to sleep
Too high snare
dudes absolutely emotionless
Emotions don't matter in a drummer.
He is under pressure to play Very hard songs. Just that.
that snare sounds worse than the snare in St anger...but he is a great drummer otherwise
He does a great job,his snare sound just sucks.
great technique, but no punch and no feeling.
wahnfred666 lol dumb
wahnfred666 he looks pretty young and he has the playing down. That's the important part and I'm sure the rest will come soon.
wahnfred666 What a joke.
The song just has very little feeling. Soilwork's songwriting came a long way - don't forget they've been playing almost 20 years since they wrote this song.
mby he's focused on not dying xd
amazing,, but the snare sounds abit shit,,
Effortless
dude is very good, but that snare... sounds like crap
he's a great talented drummer but so boring live, he does nothing to get hyped honestly
Snare is tight 👌
Good Technique but no Punch no feeling lack in speed.
0:43 the gruitarists said it...a bit weak.
Superior drumming, vocals on the other hand have declined significantly
Bastian aint making the cut for soilwork :\ No groove or finesse, also lacking in speed. would have been awesome to see this song with Dirk!
Lol he is a student of Dirk, did we even watch the same video?
Google Dirk Verbeuren Soilwork 2/27/09. if you cant tell the difference in finesse\groove, i cant help you. Tho i will give Bastian som cred for a couple of soilwork songs he plays on his own channel. They sounded good, but this performance here, nope.
Groove, finesse, ok, but no, he's not lacking in speed.
Terrible.. .miss the 'teacher'
Band sucks, good drummer tho.
