- Its been a long wait but I've cleared my feet and I'm back in the game bringing the CR250R back to life. In this weeks long awaited episode I'm dealing with the job of letting the engine breathe properly so carb and exhaust is the name of the game. But first.....

So first up was to grab the Carb from the shelf and tear it down to component form, to my amazement the internals were nowhere near as dirty as i would have imagined but life's full of little surprises isn't it?
After it was all taken apart i gave the main body a quick clean in the parts washer so as not to contaminate my ultrasonic cleaner too much, once cleaned the main body joined the rest of the parts in the sonic cleaner for 20mins at 60 degrees Celsius.
while the carb was cleaning i made a start of tearing the airbox apart to get it looking tip top again this included the tedious process of drilling out all the rivets and de-rusting all of the steel parts before re-plating everything to look OEM again.
By this time the carb was all done in the ultrasonic bath and could be removed, dried off and re-assembled which was pretty much the exact opposite of the teardown and then it was onto the exhaust side of things.
so again this was a pretty simple job that ended up delaying me but I'll get to that in a moment. I first took the expansion chamber outside and filled it full of engine cleaner to dissolve all the oil and carbon inside and gave it a good scrub too. while that was doing its thing i stripped down the silencer, muffler for my American viewers ;) so that i could clean it up and re-pack it so the bike will sound exactly as Honda intended. So the casing was vapor blasted and clear coated to protect from staining and the expansion chamber now clean and rubbed down was coated with VHT ( very high temp ) matte black paint as per the original and then i went to grab the wool for re-packing the can and I realized i had ordered nowhere near enough to pack the muffler so that will be done next episode along with a multitude of other jobs.
Until next time stay safe,
Enjoy

I can’t even believe ! I was trying to install my engine back in with the bearing caps on ! The INSIDE ‼️ IM SO GRATEFUL YOU TOOK THE TIME TO MAKE THIS SERIES. THANK YOU SIR
Your care to restore and the safety precautions you take are spot on........still waiting on the tour of your shop of many rooms and equipment once promised
Thank you so much, Not to worry i'll get around to the tour and plating guide at some point haha ;)
It's a good day when RRC Restoration has fresh upload, spot on work as always mate👍👍
Thank you so much :)
I love your content. It's always relaxing and inspiring. 🥰🥰🥰
What a great episode! I disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt my brother's 2007 Kawasaki ZXR1200 carbs two summer's ago in exchange for him letting me borrow it for a few weeks while I was in between motorcycles...... Everyone should pull apart a carb at least once in their life to get some hand's on experience with that "old" tech!
The fact that there's two different sized bolts on the same part (expansion chamber) really grinds my gears :D Great work, the big will look as good as new!
Haha I know its so annoying its like the design engineer in the 80's thought " you know what would be funny" haha
Camera shots are quality in your videos real pleasure to watch. I learn and enjoy..
It is so satisfying to watch your work in Details. Calming me down the love to craftsmanship

Hey RRC, vid is a great watch as always, you have inspired me to undertake a small project of my own on an old mountain bike! cheers for the great vids
I could litterally watch you work your pure magic all day. Another brilliant upload, very much enjoyed. And that carb came back looking like brand new, quite a nice win there :)
That carry cleaned up beautifully, awesome work as always!
Y yo que pensaba que la restauración de una CR sería algo rápido y sencillo.....madre mía.
Enhorabuena es hipnótico...qué gusto por el más mínimo detalle y el trabajo pulcro e impecable.

Awesome work, as usual !! Can't wait to see this beauty up and running !
Same here, cant wait to hear it running again, although it should sound a lot better this time around ;)
Consistently great work, and I'm always excited to see another episode! Couldn't believe the junk that came out of the expansion pipe. Man, that was thick!
thanks for sharing mate i am loving this series!
I love carbs, especially old motorcycle carbs that doesn't employ any vaccum driven venturi slider. Just plain old cable-actuated variable venturi
Fantastic quality workmanship as usual 👍
it's easy to forget how complicated a carburettor actually is till you tear a big Keihin down again.
great upload again my friend, keep them coming

I had a heck of a time rebuilding the 4 carburetors for my 1986 ZX600 Ninja. The Phillips screws were stripping so I went and replaced them all with socket caps for future proofing.
Brilliant effort as usual
Thank you :)

Once again, much appreciation for all the work you put into the shooting and editing of these videos, it really lifts your channel above the rest. It may be baffling to some why you do this, as it is clearly exhausting work, but the results silence the critics. 👍🇦🇺
Arf arf.....
Allways a joy!
Can’t wait to hear this thing run
Same here, wont be long now ;)
Great stuff: excellent skills and droll humour make all your videos relaxing and very watchable. Nice one.

@@RRCRestoration Just top-class work, hard to see how it could be bettered. I don't know if you take any of your machines to shows, but I can easily see you taking an award or three home. All the best.
I hopped the exhaust was a bit dinged up so I could -steal- observe your method for pulling up the dents. Great video as always :)
It's a beauty! 👌
Top of the line !
Woww i like it 🖤, IM from Indonesian

A next very good Job Love it is amazing Restauration and a perfect Video ❤️🌹👍
Thank you so much :)
Fantastic loved it
Glad you enjoyed it :)
I can't even put into words your level of craftsmanship and knowledge where did you begin to learn all these tasks? I'm really starting to believe that you are immortal, just by thinking about all the time it would take to learn this stuff there's no way you're not somewhere around seven hundred years old
You are so relaxing to watch I forgive you for not uploading a second surprise episode.
Awesome!
motogp, TT and RRC all on the same day! Nice vice!
Ah you're a man of culture too I see :) , The TT is fantastic so glad its back this year :)
No matter how many times I see the re-plating process I always go oooo that’s great, superb work as usual 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you :)
23:14 reminds me of those earwax removal videos 😅
Very Nais!!!
I was amazed how clean the inside of that float bowl was. But when I think about it i'll bet they ran pre-mix in it. And pre-mix here in the states is almost all ethanol-free. At least that I have found on the shelves. thankfully more stations in the area are starting to offer non-ethanol fuel. I use it in all my small engines especially my old ATV's.
Can’t wait till you restore a zxr250!
😅
Hello a great video perfect job 👍👍👍greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 👋👋👋 Kai 🙏🛠
Thanks Kai, really glad you enjoyed it. Always nice to hear from you.
Going the extra mile! The exhaust expansion pipe didn’t need painting, but it got fresh paint anyway.
Yup, I could've left it as it was but where its located i though hmm its better to give it a coat just now that having to clean it up again later , the devil is in the details ;)
A mate of mine sprayed a load of that Mr. Muscle oven cleaner in one of them vari pitch turbos this one time and it freed it all up...
🇬🇧😐
super robota :)
Good job, as it was for the SS.
Just one thing: do not use the scotch brite in the cleaner: will release the abrasive impregnated in the fibers, not good, expecially for a carb
Or switch it out with the white scotch brite, which only has the fibers without any abrasive
@@miamimovies but it's still fibers that can break and go everywhere.
A mosquito mesh will work fine
best thing about 2 strokes carbs dont varnish up as much as 4 strokes after not being used for a while.
Awesome 👍
Cheers buddy :)
The Number one
How carbs work:
Stuff in > black magic > stuff out
Excellent work as always. The ultrasonic cleaner was so impressive I've ordered one from amazon. Do you use an alkaline degreaser in it, or something else? Impressive stuff, it'll soon be completed! 😁👍
beautifully done - always a pleasure to watch you work 😉
Thank you :)
