I have this and got it on sale too! Thank you for the overview; going to incorporate it with the other soft synths I picked up recently

Easily the best sounding VST I own. Does it sound 100% like a Moog? I own a real one, so I'd have to say no, they're 95% similar but not identical. This doesn't matter, as the UAD is more stable, tuning wise. This is good and bad, but mostly good. Original Minis are quite unstable which can be frustrating. It can make an Original sound slightly richer though. The overdrive isn't exactly the same either. But I think ultimately I like the sound- it's like a Mini but a bit more stable. I like the ease of the in-the-box workload, with all the convience of patch memory etc. I would prefer if this did have a polyphonic option though.

Thank you for your insightful comment. And yes, agreed on all fronts. My Mini stays in tune just long enough for a take, and then it's back to 440. A proper Mini has tons of magic, but UA's emulation is the best I've heard so far. I purchased Arturia's Mini back in 2003 shortly after it was released, and loved it, but all the bells and whistles they continue to stack in their emulations almost cause me anxiety!

The Legend (HZ) have polyphonic option. Model 72 also sounds good. Monark is dirty and good in own way.

It does sound great. PolyMax sounds damn good too. The other one I have that just has a really great tone is U-He Diva & G-Force's Oberheim plugins. Otherwise, I find most vintage type plugins a bit meh. Though Softube Model 80 does also sound good. And I think Softube Model 72 is quite good too, just that I prefer UAD, and it's cheaper on sale, or can get the bundle with PolyMax and Opal for 59 atm. When using a plugin, other than Diva, UAD & the G-Force Oberheims, usually I reach for something powerful and modern: Phase Plant. Otherwise, I'll use hardware synths (Sequential Prophet, Novation Peak, Moog Grandmother+modular).

I'm working on a Christmas album for 2024......strictly Moog synths.... including Moog software synths...Title: Merry ChristMoog..🎄🎄🎄...to be released on all digital download platforms next year...i.e. iTunes, Pandora...etc. I have the 2 directly from Moog.... the Model D Minimoog & Model 15. I also own some Moog hardware synths including the Subsequent 37. The software synths sound great! I'm assuming there may have been some collaboration between Moog & UA with the 2 Mini's they both released in software format possibly sharing the same underlying code base. Who know's.... maybe UA actually wrote the algorithms for Moog. The Moog version has an Arpeggiator, Bender, Delay & Looper, but doesn't have the bottom row of knobs and switches the UA version has. I was going to get a 2022 Minimoog reissue for my home studio until I tried the Minimoog standalone / VST software. I mapped the majority of the function/knobs of the Mini to the corresponding knobs on my Subsequent 37 as best possible and I'll tell you.... It's awesome! I can play the Mini software synth with real time adjustments on the Sub 37 and it's pretty darn close. Once you start adding effects..... which you're going to do with a synth and EQ I don't think anyone would know the difference unless you told them. I mapped the knobs on the stand alone version and it remembers it when utilized as a plug in inside my DAW..... so you only need to map 1 time!! The Moog version also has 7 banks of different presets to get your started, I'm sure the UA version has their names/pre-sets also. Here's the difference: New Minimoog 2022 re-issue $5000.00 !!!!!! Minimoog software $30 !!!!! You do the math!! Yes.... buy the actual Moog version it's only $30 compared to $99 for the UA .... when its on sale. The Moog version of the app also can be Polyphonic!!!.... not sure about the UA version. I think the actual Moog version stand alone version only works on a Mac if I'm correct, not 100% on that one. Unless you're going to gig with it .... and even then... you could easily gig with the stand alone..... not requiring a DAW..... mapped to the Sub 37 on a Mac laptop or Mac Mini..... and who wants to beat up a $5000 piece of history on the road. I gig professionally.... everything gets beat up eventually. And I can't justify the $5000 expense for my studio. And I can put that plugin on as many tracks as I want and Midi previously recorded parts or track multiple sequences to those with different patches that I create. You can't do that with hardware. The Model 15 is cool too if you're thinking about getting into modular synths. You can use the presets & change the patch cables to your hearts content. You need hardware..... but the $5000 price tag is ridiculous. The Subsequent 37 can replicate the sounds of the Mini and a 1000 fold more. And you can store the sounds you create on the Sub 37.... you can't do that on a Mini Moog..... oh... but you can on the Model D software version!!! Yes.... you can create your own sounds and save them as presets in software with the Model D Minimoog app... so you don't loose anything you've created. If you have money to burn.... buy the real deal. If you're on a budget or want that money spent on other synths that will give you different sounds to complement your Moog setup.... map the app to an existing Moog synth via midi. Enjoy.!!!

Whoa! First off - best of luck on your Christmas album and please be sure to share once complete! And we greatly appreciate your thoughtful comments on the various iterations of the classic synth. I am now starting to use UA's emulation along with my physical unit, and couldn't be happier! Cheers!
