In my 50 plus years of playing Synths and Keyboards, ( I’m a huge Rick Wakeman Fan) I have never watched such an informative and enjoyable tutorial as this one. Well done Maestro. Ken in Scotland.
I remember playing with a Moog synthesizer that Radio Shack sold when I was a kid. I had so much fun with it, even though I had no idea what I was doing. I really appreciate you explaining what each function does. Thank you. Cheers from Maine, USA
47:43 start of Kraftwerk "Radio activity"!, Best explanation of the controls of the Minimoog yet, especially the envelope modulation settings I understand better now than from other demo videos.
Thank you Claudio! Your in-depth tutorial is very clear and helpful and the best I have found to date. I am awaiting the arrival of my 2022 Model D, which has been on my wish list for 45 years!
I've had both... sold my new one because my old 72 has some mojo.. but for sure the reissue is a Minimoog in every sense of the word. Yes.. very nice to have the aftertouch too :D
I got a minimoog VST recently, and I was looking for a tutorial like this just last week. This is so much more clear than any of the others I found! Thank you!
Claudio, that was one the best videos EVER on this synth and how to use it. Now I can finally reproduce all of this on my Model D (replica) Behringer. Thank you so much. Amazing.
Terrific stuff, Doctor! Thanks. One thing though: C3-P0 was a mindless philosopher, it was R2-D2 that was the sentient wheeled synthesizer. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
Interesting video tutorial. I picked up the Behringer Poly D Clone of the MiniMoog a few weeks ago. Spent an entire day experimenting with all the knobs trying to figure out how the device worked. In the beginning no matter what I did, I got no sound from he device. Then I just got clicking sounds from each key. Thought the device was faulty. Then bang! The device started to produce many different wonderful sounds as I was discovering what each knob can do. This video has helped put into perspective all the things I was doing. Hopefully now I can learn to love this synth as much as you do. I msy need to watch this video a few more times to understand what you were talking about as my skill with this device improves.
BM said it's actually pronounced Mogch but he preferred Mogue. I guess it's now a company name so a free for all. Like Nissan in the U.K. Or Neesan in the US.
Thank you for doing this tutorial, it's been a real help in understanding how analog synthesis works. I've watched other videos where they show how to get a certain sound by setting the knobs to certain positions, but they rarely explain *why*. Here in this video you explain exactly why. Thank you!
Thank you for this video Claudio. I can't afford a Minimoog, but I do have a Creamware Minimax ASB , and have tried to programme it many times. Your video is the first one that got me to succeed .
That was great I watched it two times. You got me juiced up to learn this beautiful Moog. I do love mine too. I have not turned it on in a while. Thank you!! Joe from Litchfield CT.
Awesome video! I just started teaching electronic music and have a Mini Moog in the classroom. No sweat with not knowing ALL the jargon (you've got most of it down anyway); I can tell you've put in some significant time with that thing and I'm excited to try it myself tomorrow.
Doctor Mix, thank you for this video. I never could understand the relevance of Minimoog for today’s day but you explained very well and I could understand rhe uniqueness of this instrument.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This was awesome. Love your energy, enthusiasm, and humor, while also being extremely informative! And a badass keyboardist on top of all of that. More minimoog content please! Peace.
Robert Mogue‘s greatest hit: Old McDonald had a farm ... Well, kinda one hit wonder in so far ... But then he produced the *Rogue* because the name rhymes to his own one.
Thanks for this amazing tour of the Minimoog! Really fun to watch you play and go crazy with it too! I’m just starting with the Minimoog and you’re great at explaining how this beast works! 🙌🏻 Will definitely check your other videos! 😊
Brilliant video. I've been randomly playing with the settings on the Beh***er Model D I bought a while ago without knowing what I was doing. Getting a cool sound out of it was pure luck. After watching your vid I'm starting to understand it much better. I'll watch your vid a few more times...

Thanks for this video, I watch you all the time. Its sick how you call out tracks and sounds we both think were so amazing. That CHiPs sound blew me out of the water. You inspired me to get a Poly D, maybe you can do a video on that gear sometime.
Hey, GREAT VIDEO. On the Chips sound, I think the 4th is fixed pitch between two oscillators (and some noise blended in), with the LFO pulsing being applied to the Filter cutoff. But still VERY likely the Mini D. Bravo!
The ocillator 3 is awesome, you can do with it many things that are hidden. Like arpegiator, vibrator, and some incredible Effects. I love this synthisizer, I hope to meet him one day !
DOCTAH!!! Best informative and entertaining tutorial on the Minimoog I’ve seen yet! Thank you Claudio my homey-o for putting in the work here! Going to apply all this knowledge to my Behringer Poly D. Its an amazing bang for the buck analog synth IMO. Bless up and thanks again!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🎹🎹⚡️⚡️😎😎

I also have several videos performing with my set up. For me it's mostly a hobby but I enjoy playing as much as possible.
Claudio apart from a great musician you're a great instructor/teacher as well !!! Your videos - the ones where you "resurrect" sounds and themes from the past - are such an inspiration !!!

Many thanks, Claudio! I am a visual artist who dabbles in sound, so I know almost NOTHING about how sound synthesis works. In trying to read tutorials, I end up getting lost very quickly, since I am unfamiliar with so many terms that musicians take for granted that the reader will already know. Word up!! I purchased a Poly D 6 months ago and the Doc’s video is super helpful. In fact, the most helpful video I’ve seen yet. I’m lovin’ my Poly D. It was more cost effective than spending several grand on a Minimoog

Great explanation of this great synth, also for people using cheap copies! Now I understand the knobs and possibilities even better! Synth life is better with Doctor Mix!
So that's what the A-440 button is there for! Excellent presentation, thank you - great to see what belongs to the original Minimoog here, and what features have been added to the soft synths that I'm sure purists hate!
that produces a 440hz tone so you can tune the synth. There is a switch that will mute the main out, but you can still hear the sound through headphones allowing the user to tune the synth and/or dial up sounds in private and not being heard to the audience and other band mates.
45:25 reminds me a bit of the second track of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds... "Horsell Common and the Heat Ray" and "The Artilleryman & The Fighting Machine" in particular - there's some fabulous synth stuff in that whole album actually - they used the Minimoog and an ARP Odyssey and near the end of production a Yamaha CS80 to redo some of the earlier parts

@10:25 you briefly mentioned imitating other instruments. Would you consider making a video on it for us? Thanks for all the great videos!
Probably more Poly D owners watching this guide than Minimoog owners. It's been the top selling synth on Thomann for a while
Yup, Model D.
Sequential ciruits pro one here, and i think the moog sounds so inferior, but that probably because i have never used a moog
You caught me.
Model D owner checking in. This video is awesome too...really easy to follow through and gave me a much better understanding of the synth.
Yup!! I just got a Poly D this past July and The Doc is hookin’ me up with some knowledge!👍🏾🎹⚡️
The DEFINITIVE guide to using a MiniMoog, such detailed content, recommend anyone to watch this video to understand Analog synthesis.
Did you know your videos are absolutely incredible to watch while tripping? So sonically textured and enthusiastic
i've watched this vid in full 3 times now. it's better each time (along with my understanding of basic subtractive). thanks Dr. Mix
In my 50 plus years of playing Synths and Keyboards, ( I’m a huge Rick Wakeman Fan) I have never watched such an informative and enjoyable tutorial as this one. Well done Maestro. Ken in Scotland.

Nice work.
The re-issue is the one to get. Midi, extra LFO, velocity, midi, aftertouch.
I've had both... sold my new one because my old 72 has some mojo.. but for sure the reissue is a Minimoog in every sense of the word. Yes.. very nice to have the aftertouch too :D
Also had both. Didn't hold a candle to my 70s mini
@@dingbatjack1234 I think the new one is based on the 1976 model... for some reason I just didn't gel with it... but it was still cool.
I had a 1975 model; the Reissue replicated it perfectly.
Like many others, I a tech add a dedicated LFO to my 1973 D .
I got a minimoog VST recently, and I was looking for a tutorial like this just last week. This is so much more clear than any of the others I found! Thank you!

The keys, "They smell of analog." I know exactly what he means, and I love it!!! I have a home version 1977 Hammond organ and the keys smell the same!
Best excuse ever, "Plus I'm Italian!" 🤣
Incredible! A lot of familiar territory but some absolute gems in there too, especially with the modulation oscillator in action. Thanks!
Moog as in Rogue - I’ve seen Bob Moog say this himself more than once.
I have a Moog Rogue - it's fab!

That's right he did, there's some cool docs on him and his awesome inventions. I've always used "vogue" as the word to describe its pronunciation.
When you were talking about the low range on oscillator 1, Daft Punk used that as “the click” in Giorgio by Moroder

"How To Use A Minimoog Synthesizer"
Step One: Have a Minimoog Synthesizer.
Step two, find a cheap Minimoog synthesiser.
