  • The third film version of the historic tug-of-war between the tyrannical Captain Bligh and the stout-hearted Fletcher Christian starred Clark Gable, who brought his best leading-man chops, and Charles Laughton, whose legendary portrayal of the pompous dictator cemented his image in the public eye-for better and for worse. Director Frank Lloyd and his picture were nominated for a slew of Oscars but won only for Best Picture.

Thanks for the mini series - this is still my favorite version - primarily because of Laughton who is just fantastic!

One of my favorite films of the 1930s. Charles Laughton as Capt. Bligh is iconic.

I first saw this as a kid. They actually showed in at the school I was attending. I really enjoyed it. Still do.

If there was ever good triple feature, I guess all 3 Bounty Mutiny movies would be one. This 1935 version is probably my personal favorite.

Oh yes! This is the now considered the Charles Laughton version, and it's reputation as a classic is definitely thanks to his pairing with Clark Gable.

Poor Charles compared himself to the Handsome, masculine Gable and felt horrible throughout shooting. Life was not easy for him.
