Hey Jamel! Sly & the Family Stone's music is a foundation of my life and my life's philosophy. He has influenced so, so many people. Musicians, artists, and just Everyday People. They broke barriers. Absolute legends! Note: Sly liked to do things his way, so this is a Music Medley. Sly himself has had serious ups and downs in his life. But still, his greatness can't be denied. ✌🏽out, Jamel!

The Ed Sullivan show was a big deal back then. One of my favorite bands from the 70s they have so many good Tunes. Check out Parliament when you get a chance too especially Mothership Connection.. Hot Fun in the Summertime was always a favorite... From a much better time when we were all color blind and lived together for the most part.. You always have haters but unlike today the seventies were the best decade of my life... 8 track tapes, American bandstand, Soul Train, Laugh in, etc... Just good times with good people...
Back in the day, kids all over America were made to take piano lessons and many participated in the school band/chorus or at church. That gave them a good musical foundation to rebel against that square culture, found bands, and make great rock and roll. Most kids don’t have that musical foundation today.
So true. I grew up in small farming town, with only 100 kids in the H.S. Guess how many were in the H.S. band? 'Bout 100! The music teacher grew up in the 20's and 30's and he was a bit of a tyrant. He pretty-much REQUIRED everyone to be in the band, and he demanded that we give our best. He could be pretty rough on us. Saw him throw his baton across the room at the girls in chorus one time when he was pissed. But years later, my friend and I were comparing notes about our school days, and we agreed that he was our best teacher - because we Learned to do it right (or else). He retired when I was a Sophmore, and his replacement was this "hep cat" 20-something right out of college. Everybody liked him, the girls had a crush on him, and we seemed to have fun. But the band sounded like Hell compared to what we had before. Music was great and inspiring all through the 60's, 70's, 80's and into the 90's. Something went wrong in the 90's and it all turned into crap, comparatively.
Sly and the Family Stone was the first concert I went to somewhere around 1968 at the Philly Spectrum when I was like 14. My Dad took me and sat next to me for the whole concert. But even with that it was a fantastic concert. Saw them several more times around Philly. I wish Sly would have survived fame better and could have continued sending out his message. We still need that message more than ever...
This was more of a medley than the song “Dance To The Music”, but I love Sly, so no complaints. “Thank You Faletinme Be Mice Elf Agin”, is my ultimate Sly song.
Great great music! Sly and The Family Stone!! I love the 60-80’s music! So groovy ! Good words for today !! I love music so much. It is a great uniter✌🏻✌🏻

I hate to think how few families even sit down to dinner together let alone watch tv together anymore. Let alone share music together. These are different times. Thanks for the throwback, much appreciated!

*Hot Fun In The Summer Time
*If You Want Me To Stay
Amen, Amen!!! I LOVED this song growing up!!!!
Always loved Sly, Everyday People is one of my favorites to this day.
You’re the best! My Monday just got 100% better!
"Stand!!" is a great song by these folks. Sly had a solo hit, 'If you Want me to Stay' and it's very cool.
Rick Albee agree
Agreed, those are two great songs.
I was going to recommend (request) that also, Rick, but you beat me to it!
If You Want Me To Stay is just pure class
Agreed, both way up on the funkiness meter.
One if my favorite songs. Great memories roller skating in Union City, New Jersey singing along to this song. Loved it then and love it now.

Yes, take me back, brother. How about a little, "STAND" from Sly.
“Sing A Simple Song” by Sly is just about as funky as it gets. Would love to hear that next. Thanks brotha!!
Hell yeah! Try a little DO-RE-MI-SO-FA-LA-TI-DO!
I can remember the whole family gathering around the tv on Sunday nights to catch The Ed Sullivan Show and seeing The Beatles, Sly and the Family, Vanilla Fudge, The Doors, The Stones. I hate to think how few families even sit down to dinner together let alone watch tv together anymore. Let alone share music together. These are different times. Thanks for the throwback, much appreciated!
No explanation needed. We love it. This our jam. 1970's Paramount, CA representing
This was bringing the real funk. There wasn't a high school during my days there that didn't play this regularly.
