Rufus Thomas - Breakdown and Funky Chicken Live ( you want the video with the girl in the polka dot dress thumbnail). You guys going to have loads of fun reacting to it..and so will we by watching you. Appreciate the amazing work you do🙏Keep going strong👍
Sly Stone probably invented funk. If he didn't invent it, I don't know who did. Also, this was one of the first integrated bands in rock, if not the first.
@@CorneiliusLibowitz He did actually, they threw auditions and a bunch of random people showed up. The two men that played with him, were the two men that he chose out of all that auditioned. So they didn’t know each other prior to being in the band. It’s a pretty cool story.
Sylvester Stewart and his sister, Rose grew up in my home town and graduated from my high school.. Know all about this family. A young Sly also spun records as a DJ at a SF Bay Area radio station before making it big in the mid 60's..
Hey Jamel bought Sly & Family Stones greatest hits when l was 13 . Still my favourite and I'm 64 now. Hot Fun in the Summertime still my fave .Even back in 1970 I appreciated their black and white togetherness. BTW I am white and Canadian which really shouldn't matter should it? Love ya! 🇨🇦
Summer of Soul now streaming on Hulu(Questlove directed) The Sly footage blows the Woodstock films away(in clarity & Sound). A film documenting the Harlem Cultural Festival (1969) was never seen until now! A young Stevie Wonder, BB King,,Mahalia Jackson. Nina Simone to make a few! This film might win an Oscar!!!
Sly and The Family Stone were top tier cool music and humans! This is the way it was...seriously. None of the manufactured division that's being ginned up today.
Sly was so important to the late 60's - early 70s music and those times. You've got to check out Sly & The Family Stone - October 20th 1969 Live. Then you'll see the band so many of us enjoyed. This video was from the Ed Sullivan show, which was 3 minutes and "next".
Sly and the Family Stone won an ABC TV talent competition that aired one summer circa 1967 or 1968. I watched the show that summer. Every week different musical acts competed. I wanted them to win and was so happy when they did. I recall it was the song Everyday People that they performed. I highly recommend watching their Woodstock performance of "Wanna Take Ya Higher". Electrifying!
I was dancing then it was over…. Please find more of SFS, the songs of my teen years! I was the first of my friends to get her license so I fill my car with friends & go out in the country, we’d all get out and blast them out! So much fun!
Sad to see where life landed Sly in the end. He was to cool of a guy with too good of a message to have ended up where he did.....But he seems to still be that cool guy at heart.
Love your channel Jamel! I enjoy watching your reactions because they're pretty much the same as I had hearing these older tunes 40-50 years ago for the first time. I don't know if you've heard the complete version of either of those songs but if not you really should check them out. "Dance To The Music" is funky good stuff. For some more funky stuff you should check out a group named The Meters. ✌️✌️
Love this! I grew up listening to Sly and the Family song. I really enjoyed this reaction. Another good one is “Everybody is a Star” “I want to take you higher” “Hot Fun in the Summer Time”. Enjoy!
If you want more of this funky groove, Check out Larry Graham and Grand Central Station live on Sinbad’s Summer jam. They absolutely kill all of Sly’s hits. That was Larry on the bass In the clip you guys just watched.
Yes!! Jamal though Slys biggest hits were in the late 60's his funkiest was in the 70's!! Check 1) Thank,You for Talking to me Africa 2) Poet 3) The Same Thing(That makes you laugh, makes you cry).
I'm really enjoying you and your brothers reactions on your channel!!! If you want to see more Sly, check out Soul Train( if you can view it). He did a full live set on there. A quick fact...the tall gentleman playing the bass with the deep voice is Larry Graham. He had that song "One in a Million," you've heard that before I'm sure. He is also the uncle of Drake.
I think it was New Year's Eve & Day 1976......when I attended a 2-day concert inside of Diamond Head Crater in Honolulu, HI. BTO & America were the headliners, but we also had Billy Preston, Cheech & Chong, Seals & Croft, Melissa Manchester, Sly Stone (....without the 'Family' I think...) There were a BUNCH of groups.....but also so much weed, that I had to look up the full list a few years ago....to remember. I think it was called 'Crater Fest'.
There's GOT to be the whole thing! It's ALWAYS been my favorite from my younger years. I'm 65 today and would LOVE to have heard you're young man's opinions !!!

Sly was a great band. I wore a couple albums of theirs out back in the day when I was in high school. The clip is too short, but you do get a taste of their music with it.
Brutally truncated, brothers! So, ya figure Laurent looks like slap-bass king Larry Graham. I agree, and that'll be a wicked cool theme for you guys to dress up in next Halloween, fancy dress thing, etc. 👍😉

Sly Stone probably invented funk. If he didn't invent it, I don't know who did. Also, this was one of the first integrated bands in rock, if not the first.
James Brown invented it A L L!
@Gerald H The Meters as well!
Jimi Hendrix played with 2 British white dudes before Sly and the Family Stone came out....
@@CorneiliusLibowitz He did actually, they threw auditions and a bunch of random people showed up. The two men that played with him, were the two men that he chose out of all that auditioned. So they didn’t know each other prior to being in the band. It’s a pretty cool story.
Booker T and the MGs was half black half white and started in 1962.
We've been robbed and short changed Jamel! This band was pure🔥give us some more Sly brother🎶🌴
My parents knew what to expose me to. Who can resist dancing? Sly was one fine performer. It ended too soon!!!
Sylvester Stewart and his sister, Rose grew up in my home town and graduated from my high school.. Know all about this family. A young Sly also spun records as a DJ at a SF Bay Area radio station before making it big in the mid 60's..
Everyday People was the #1 song on the charts when I was born. Late February 1969.
I love that song. We bleed red my brothers and sisters.
The bass player on the far right is Larry Graham of Graham Central Station. He is also Drake's uncle (Drake's dad's brother)!!
I saw Sly and the Family Stone in concert, in Amarillo Texas, in 1970. I still have that first vinyl recording, too!
Love ya! 🇨🇦

their woodstock performance is very worth watching
Their Woodstock performance is FIRE!!!!!!!
These guys and KC and the Sunshine Band got everybody dancing! Good times!
Truth!
songs like these make my heart sing
Probably the best song by Sly & the Family Stone was "Stand". Great lyrics. They were way ahead of their time. Admired by Miles Davis and James Brown.
that was definitely cut. where they say "I'm gonna add a little..." is accompanied by a solo
Yeah, the drummer does his thing for a while solo and then the guitar then the bass then the organ.
Sly and The Family Stone were top tier cool music and humans! This is the way it was...seriously. None of the manufactured division that's being ginned up today.
Sly was the man for years. He made people feel good and his grooves were "groovy". Thanks guys have a good! "Everyday" is my fave Sly song!
We all danced to this. So much fun. ❤❤❤❤❤
Sly was so important to the late 60's - early 70s music and those times. You've got to check out Sly & The Family Stone - October 20th 1969 Live. Then you'll see the band so many of us enjoyed. This video was from the Ed Sullivan show, which was 3 minutes and "next".

Jamal, this is one of my favourite clips.😁
My favorite Sly song.
Should listen to the studio version of sly's music..they always cut the live versions short. The solo's on this song were great.
Brutally truncated, brothers!
So, ya figure Laurent looks like slap-bass king Larry Graham. I agree, and that'll be a wicked cool theme for you guys to dress up in next Halloween, fancy dress thing, etc.
