      @MrCarltonjsmith 3 года назад +7

      @@zackzallie8735 I hear you Zack...but my thing is the James Brown and the JB's were always tight and controlled. The James Brown show was controlled fury. Sly and the family always seemed to meander onstage and play some nameless meaningless groove/idea they were phucking around with and THEN start their show. JB and his crew hit the stage like lions and there wasn't all of this between song dead air or tuning up like with Sly.
      That is my point of reference. During that 20 year disappearance period I met Sly on three separate occasions - out of the proverbial blue - jjst ran into him and he was always as nice and a s gracious as could possibly be. I just get upset with him because he shit all over his career and legacy. I can understand where JB was too black, strong and proud for white folks...but Sly was everything he could have been for all of us and he should be mentioned right up there with all of the top White cats - Jagger, Bowie, Morrison, The Beatles - but instead he allowed himself to become a no show joke/punchline and a train wreck. Breaks my heart. Please talking music with you brother man.

    When Sly and the Family Stone first hit the air waves and began showering us all with their innovatively funky tunes I was just a teenager. The grooves were great, the messages were positive/inclusive and I found a unique sound that was now mainstream and available to people all over the world. A sound that fell somewhere in between the Funkadelics and Stevie Wonder and changed the lives of millions of us who were blessed during that period of time..

    Wow... Both Rose and Cynthia look fantastic in this clip! Even though this was 'The Family Stones' night years ago, I'm going to indulge a bit... In my book, also receiving votes for 'most'-- or just as Funky, (or even 'Funkier'!): 'The Ohio Players', 'Mandrill', 'Tower of Power', and-- of course-- the one and ONLY James Brown and the Flames, and 'James Brown & the JBs' ! Naturally, the great Prince belongs in this category, but --face it-- without the fore mentioned, Prince-- as much as I love that brother-- there'd be no Prince Thanks for posting this. LOVE IT!!

    DAMN!@.. Until it was STATED I didn't REALIZE that ALL of the ORIGINAL Members at THAT time were still around... WHEN you see who played at Woodstock(1969) you gotta realize that is NO small task... 1ST heard of S&FS via Stand... The BOMB of a Tune for me was ALWAYS "Sex Machine" a REAL Mix of Funk N Chunk 4 sure!@..

    This band is hugely responsible for the evolution of Hip Hop especially during the Golden Era from ‘86 to ‘94. Dr Dre, Digital Underground, KRS ONE to name just a few who used their samples and Janet Jackson used Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Agin) in Rhythm Nation
