I do not have the time or patience to list things on poshmark and have the stuff I don’t want sitting around my house waiting for it to sell, package each thing individually and make all those trips to fedex. I want it gone, and I don’t really care about the payout. If I can buy an iced coffee in exchange for stuff I’m not using anyway that’s fine with me.
Thank you for the review. I see a lot of comments where people are upset about say $100 shoes that you only get $16 back for and such but I think ThredUp is honest up front about their standards and payout. As someone who has only ever donated my items (earning myself $0), even $1 is more than I was getting and I’d be elated at $16 for that $100 pair of shoes I was going to give away otherwise. So for me and people like me, it seems pretty good. You also don’t have the hassle of either shipping or delivering each item as you would if you were to sell on Facebook or eBay (or the trouble with the garage sale). So far, I’m sold to at least give it a try but I am looking for feedback on the process of packing and shipping? Is there a limit to what you can send? How big is the bag? If you schedule home pick up can you simply leave it on your porch for pickup if you’re leaving home for the day? Thanks!
The bag is HUGE! You will be able to fit plenty inside. I've honestly never used the porch pickup option, I've always just taken it to the local post office instead. I would venture to guess you could leave it outside your door, though!
You can either accept upfront payout OR consignment earnings on your one package they accept. if you choose upfront for the bag they accepted, it will be much smaller. if you skip upfront and choose consignment earnings, you have to wait for the items to sell or if they sell. if they sell, you get the consignment earnings which will be more in the long run if you want to wait for them to sell.
I sent over 40 items of clothing including maternity, women’s, and baby clothes. I got a WHOPPING $3.45 for 8 items that they chose. The rest were “donated”. I’m getting 3 cents for one item lmao!!! Never again. I will just donate the clothes-it’s not worth the hassle.
Hi my name is triniti roberts i know i don't know you guys but i was wondering do you guys perhaps know how to remove Visa or credit card and a video would be appreciated maybe
I just got back my boots that I had sent in to them and there was electrical tape and goo from adhesive stuck to them. I don't know what to do, they are not sellable and they are nubuck so will be nearly impossible to get off. I have had some great payouts from them but after this it is just not worth the stress and loss that comes from 1 damaged item eating into my overall profit margin.
I've been with ThredUp so long I remember them taking some Wal-Mart brands and we kept the clothes with us until they would sell. Clothes they sell has increased in price steadily, some being so close to the new price I just ordered new and actually got it for less because it was on sale! As their prices get higher the pay out has dropped incredibly! I guess that is working for them mostly, but it has made me question if I should do business with them at all any more. They are getting to out of touch with their members and more focused on the $. I understand it takes money to run a company, but it's changed so much from the ThredUp I joined!
It's so interesting to hear about the ThredUp evolution. I haven't been using their services very long, but they advertising has increased 10 fold just since I started using them. It's definitely a gamble to use their service, but you can have that peace of mind that the clothes are going to good homes or are being recycled responsibly.
This was super helpful! I'm trying ThredUp for the first time and wanted more info on how it was structured. This was honestly the best review I've seen. Thank you so much! :)
You are so welcome! Thanks for your kind words! I actually ended up using ThredUp a second time and made about $40 the second go-round. I thought that was worth it, considering a lot of consignment stores in my area are super picky about the clothes they accept.
Sending ur clothes to threadup is not exactly the best... but buying is pretty good because you can see the original retail... and big brands are way cheaper in price so... it’s 50/50
One year later and I want to be sure I understand. If thred up LIKES your items and think they will sell immediately, they give you a payout immediately. If they think it will take a while to sell, they will put it on consignment.
After watching a few of these vids I've found that most people would get more money just selling all the clothes on a local Facebook group for $1 an item in a lot.
Thank you :) I have several Items that I’ve listed on FB marketplace, local fb groups and offer up and they haven’t sold. So at this point I’d be happy to make a few bucks and get rid of the excess :)
+Clothes Minded Interiors Thank you so much!! Your job sounds so fun, and I'm thrilled this video was helpful. I can't wait to see all the tips and trips with closet organization and declutter that your channel has to offer!
I got two $40-$50 credits with no consignment items, one $10 payout and one $94 credit and consignment total which I took the payout of $59. Hey, it’s better than just donating! I donate too but for my newer, higher end clothes, at least i got something!
Love your videos. (Fan of your Mom, which is how I found out about you.) One tip - your camera/light set up is making the color change back and forth between warmer tones and cooler blue tones. Not sure what causes that or how to fix...but thought you might want to know.
+Andrew Aiello-Hauser thank you so much for your nice words and for watching the videos! I'm glad you like them! I think the color change has to do with leaving the lights on in the background (urrrgh, I always forget to turn them off!) I'll be sure to remember in the future!
+Lauren R Thank you so much! That means a lot. I do my best to do a lot of research before I make the videos so that they're as informative as possible. Hope you enjoyed it!
Thanks, i was downloading the app while listening to your video and made sure to delete it after only a minute of having it on my phone. Thredup is nope central.
for those 1st 10 items that sold for $7, what was YOUR estimate of their value?? could you have gotten more money if you used a local consignment or sold it at another site? That comes to 70c each piece.
+LiS Wright I would have thought they were worth more than $7 total, especially since one was a top from Anthroplogie. BUT the Buffalo Exchange near my house doesn't accept a lot of the brands that I shop. My best bet would have been selling them myself to get a higher value, but there's a lot of time and effort I would have had to put into that that I was able to avoid with ThredUp, so there's definitely a trade off.
.80 cents...that is what they gave me. I should have just donated them to thrift...I don't know if I should be embarrassed or mad either way I'll never do it again.
+Summer White Everyone will get paid something a little different. For what I donated, that was the case! My items that were held on consignment didn't sell within the time frame for me to get paid. So I have 14 days to reclaim them, or just let it be.
Sadly, I didn’t end up making any more than the original payout value of the clothing. ThredUp has a new bag system that doesn’t deduct $10 from your payout unless you want your clothes returned to you if that aren’t accepted. I may do a whole update video on their revised process!! Would that be helpful? Glad you tuned in!!
Thredup is a good company to work for I know used to work there they don’t recycle the sell your clothes by the pound so they make money even after getting rid of it what people need to do is ask thred up to tell you the truth. Some clothing you sent there they can be good and acceptable but they don’t take it even tho they are good but you don’t make money but they do when they “ recycle “ about 3 dollars a pound of recycle money lol
Edgardo Rentas so having worked at thredup, you should also be aware of their huge overhead of running their warehouses. Just because YOU think they "killed" a good item, usually means the computer discarded it because they already have too many of said items in the warehouse, or it could of been a out of season item. My warehouse alone spends about 1 mil in operations cost per year. Making bank? Yeah, ok..
+Medical Maura I thought it was definitely worth a shot! A thing to keep in mind is that the payout estimator on their site will overshoot the realistic amounts that people get paid. Regardless, it's a great service to give you peace of mind that the clothes are going to new homes or being responsibly recycled!
Gutsy Gal doing the video and Gutsy Company for showing it on their website! I am in TOTAL agreement regarding the Seller getting the "Baddest Bang for the Buck" but I have to say I've never seen a company so completely beautifully organized from start to finish. Where every "I" is dotted and every "T" is crossed in seemingly the smoothest of functionality! I also realize that that quality doesn't help when you are relying on at least a commensurate amount of dollars sold on the things that you so very carefully packed up, never to see again except on the "chopping block" where nobody seems to care how much it hurt to give it up. First of all to detach oneself from that beautiful object that once thrilled the bejeepers out of you....yes, can't you tell I'm an old "fuddy duddy"...enough to place it lovingly in that ingeniously invented huge green dotted bag. Perhaps taking it back one or two times until the final decision is made to "bite the bullet" and make the final decision to never look back and just give it up. I know how it hurts to hear what the garment is worth to those in charge of the $$$ and one has to wonder just what the level of expertise is in the ones using the calculator so cavalierly as to think that a Forever 21 to be on par with a Talbot's or any of the other "Golden Oldies". Well, kiddo as they say, "it's the way of the world", however, I started to write you to offer kudos for standing by your principles and announcing (rather REnouncing) that which in days gone by you had once thought, and told all who would hear that Thredup is no longer "the cat's pajamas" in your world...(told you I was an old fogie), but, I've just experienced what you've been through, and am having the same gut wrenching reactions. I must say, however, I've gotten some terrific bargains being on the side of the buyer and isn't it much more fun being on that side! Also about my age versus yours, isn't it interesting that we're having the same emotions regarding our experiences. Always try to remember the old adage: "Age only matters if you're a wine or a cheese"! Barbara Farrell, Senior Model/Actor
Your video was not that helpful. I have ordered a thredup bag, it's been more than 10 days and when I track it, the bag is still in Arizona. When I go to buy some clothes and pay the 5.99 shipping fee it take more than ten days to get my package. I feel that is ridiculous. I have emailed Thredup and no responce. Can you help?
+Mary Pinheiro thank you so much! Hopefully it shed some light on the buried info on their site and how the service works a little more! I'm so happy to have you as a subscriber!!
I agree, scam!!! They make so much money and give out pennies or close to nothing for FREE inventory, genius!!! I wish I would just donated them to local second hand store to support my local community. That at least would make me feel good. I sent so many designer brand items, some almost new, possible payout TEN dollars !?
Thank you for this informative video. I had no idea that ThredUp worked like this. I assumed it was like eBay but for clothes. 😜😜😜😜
I'm so glad it was helpful!
I sent over 50 items and received $13. That’s it, that’s all. Never again.
Jen Rodriguez I almost just did this too! Glad I read this
that's insane.
wow :o) that is ridiculous!

You’re quite welcome!! I’m glad the video was helpful!
Buying good they make a profit. Selling a nightmare
umm....you do see how much they sell them for...right? Try searching anonymously for your item. They are making BANK.
For me I think they are

Do you have to pay to send the clothes ?please someone reply
Nope!
great job explaining

Thread Up update - yes
Am sorry I hit the go button.ok I was saying that they are expensive for use clothes.for that I will go to the store and buy the real ones.
I've been with ThredUp so long I remember them taking some Wal-Mart brands and we kept the clothes with us until they would sell. Thank you so much for checking it out!
+Clothes Minded Interiors of course! I can't wait to learn more!
Dang! Thredup rips you off while they make fat cash! Think I’ll just stick to eBay.
I got two $40-$50 credits with no consignment items, one $10 payout and one $94 credit and consignment total which I took the payout of $59. Hey, it’s better than just donating! I donate too but for my newer, higher end clothes, at least i got something!

Summer White you pay 10.99 for their clean out bag. So you actually are down 3.99 if you make a whopping 7 bucks on a sale.
@@MaggiesTwoCents so if you want unsold items back then do you have to pay or do they pay for cloths to be sent back?
Wow I bought 23 items to my local consignment shop and if everything sells I will make almost $200. Threadup sounds horrible.
Great info... Now I know thredup is not for me.
+S_Hutchinson Thank you! I'm glad I was able to help you decide!
What earrings are these? look kind of like Kendra Scott Dee earrings, but I can't tell. They're super cute
+Zoë Hearnsberger yes, those are the ones! I just looked it up to make sure.
Thank you! I'd love an update on the end result!

Thank you for explaining the process.
Thank you for sharing and explaining this website. I hate research and it's great that you shared your findings on here.
it's a buyers market.
Yeah there making bank off people items on there shop 🤦🏽♀️ gave them a pair of shoes I paid over $100 for I got $16 back and the were brand new
You did way better than me. I got less than 2 percent of what they sold for.
You might have been better off doing ebay, poshmark, or mercari you wouldof got more $.even local facebook sale. Hope the best for you.

Sounds confusing as Hell
Very helpful.. Thanks
I remember my bag weighing 13 lbs and all I got was $4.50......
I love shopping at ThredUP. I saved about $300 on my last order. I just posted a video about it! Its better to shop than to sell from them.
Who purchases USED cloths? LOL
Alexei Romanov a lot of people! It’s not weird at all. Whether to be fashionable, environmentally friendly, or thrifty.
Me lol
This is very closed minded. This thought process is why fast fashion and sweatshops exist.
