I'm guessing that the spirit of the regulation is simply to make sure that numbers are visible enough to be identified and any boards don't have any stupidly sharp edges. The 'stick-on panels' I assume refers to number stickers, and the flat board on the nassau panel is simply an 'existing surface' to which the stickers can be applied. As long as the stickers are correctly sized, should be okay. As for the rounded edges, if you look closely they have actually bevelled the corners of the number board anyway (whether this is a 15-25mm diameter edge who knows)
The rule is most likely unchanged from when metal rear bumpers were common place and you'd just have a square number board fixed with 2 bolts to display your numbers. Having sharp edges on one of these obviously wouldn't be safe when it's collided with or if it falls off / snaps. Probably why they wrote this rule
They may well clarify this all in the 2025 gold book anyway , hopefully wont be an issue

The thing in my opinion is that the ‘Spirit of the regulation’ doesn’t exist anymore. With more and more money being thrown at Karting, without hard and fast rules, protests will happen as people will have spent a lot of money and will see any way of getting an advantage.
I do see the whole rounded corners on the edges but the side ones don’t look like they comply. But until we see first hand we will never know

Very intresting point in this video! But i mainly think that the number plate, is just on the line to being legal. In my opinnion atleast.

I suspect your right. The Number Plate will be deemed legal and I’ve miss interpreted something in the rules. But it’s interesting to hear other people’s opinions

Just whack a 17x17cm sticker on it. Job done, then argue that it's not a number plate because it's the wrong shape for it to be one.

I think when they say rounded - it means that the plate has a rounded fillet along the edge. Although, the plate may look sharpy, it still has little corners. I think this is just a really extreme case just like the w13 came out. Tbh, this is kinda grey zone, but it meets the regulations.

I definitely can see where you're coming from. I'll play devil's advocate and I'd argue that 9.5.3 of FIA Karting Technical regulations states Front panels must have "A space for racing numbers must be provided on the front panel". It doesn't constitute a plate is required. As it's homologated as a complete Front Panel, I'd say it's just all part of the homologation, and that'll be that. It is a weird grey area, but the argument would require to define what a Number Plate is and whether this constitutes one. In this case, I'd argue, it constitutes a space for numbers as per requirements, not a plate.
In the FIA regs this regulation does also exist, but it's clarified to mean rear on a Superkart. 3.7 "Group 4, the number plate fitted at the back of the kart must be flat and have rounded corners (diameter of rounded corners 15 to 25 mm) with 220 mm sides. The location of 17.25 is also within the Long Circuit Bodywork section within Section U, and it'd be argued only really affects those.
The Yearbook absolutely needs to be clearer on this. It is one big lump of regulations and no doubt some clarification is needed.

It’s all over priced Marketing BS anyway. If I bought a new kart first thing id do it go to M7 bodywork and sell the new ones. I think the new design also looks over worked and bulky and Im sure is heavier.

I agree it is all Marketing, but I do think the next innovation in Karting will be Aero developments. There has been so much Aero development in the past 3months that the old saying, throw enough shit some will eventually stick. Comes to mind.
