Who is the best person to check my work? I have built a Kart from the wheels up. but it is not set to race, so do I get a mechanic or a scrutineer to check my work? At my age of 73, I’d rather die of old age than bad workmanship.. if so What experience should I be looking for the mechanic or scrutineer should have to best evaluate the work done on the Kart? And are there any common mistakes that novice builders make that I should be especially aware of I may have missed
There also side holes at the top. The re are 3 tunnels, 2 side and one top
Go old school and bring back no plastics... while we are at it use harder tyres, loose clutches so there is a consequence of spinning/dive bombing plus scrap wet weather tyres and go back to wet kart setup and simply drive to the conditions or watch from the infield..... #makekartinggreatagain #mkga
Hey google. Show me the worst take you've ever seen. Basically ruining people's races for making mistakes, reducing safety, increasing damage and cost of repairs, reducing training for higher categories, and overall making karting less enjoyable and accessible. Terrible idea
so take away safety and reduce peoples seat time. I can't say i'm with you on this.
Yep all that is true, but it would also produce better drivers and better competition. From someone who was there, it was better racing back then than what the sport produces now...
how old are you?
@@kylethome old enough to be racing since early 1980s and been involved in the sport every year since with the exception of 3 when.i quit racing to pay for a wedding and deposit for a house.
I think this is just a prototype, Parolin Japan had some CAD models that looked way better
I saw them shortly afterwards! I agree, it certainly looks very 3D printed
where can i see these CAD models?
@@davidenotario1171parolin Japan
All of them got more unappetising without any speed improvement, but you have to sell something new i guess…
This is my thought, they did all the right things with the last generation now they are just fiddling to make somthing new to sell
Always the way with karting. Pointless things always being sold to someone. There was no need for Plastic rear Bumpers, the metal ones were fine….
@ I don’t agree with metal bumper thing. Firstly they don’t look as good, secondly they are less safe from a connecting pov. And they can snap way easier. I have linked front to rear with two karts this season, both were metal, didn’t happen with any of the plastics. Also I’ll work with someone with a plastic bumper and do drafting, I won’t do it with a metal bumper
cages and wheel covers, and make the officials penalize rough driving.
The Brazilian 500 milhas da granja viana is awesome, but that’s the only race they use that body kit
One thing I do is how my hands are in steering wheel .More of a left hand driver and only ose one thumb and finger of right hand side . Or more like a reminder to not fight the steering 😂🏁
That looks like a layer of Kevlar to me which should keep it from dropping pieces
Been a dad and full time mechanic for my 9 year old son in Cadet karting I'm not a big fan of some of the looks of these new possible kart design proposals, some look terrible. I agree, I like the current look of the karts, they look like mini f1. I'm all for safety improvements, what's the answer I'm not sure. I would like the karts to look even more like f1 cars personally but obviously on a smaller scale. If a roll bar, roll cage is implemented into the frame then seat harness will definitely have to be introduced.
The advantage I see with the Brazillian bodywork is there is advertizing space, the disadvantage is that aero kills competition because it gives you such a downforce advantage to be in front. Will make the racing more like modern aero era NASCAR (boring crash fests) than old school open wheel racing. My opinion is the less bodywork the better open wheel racing.
you are taking away the CORE of the sport, Its supposed to be cheap and it its a metal frame with no pods 4 wheels and thats it. i was fine when they introduced the backbumper and sidepods but now with all the aero stuff and inclosement it not iven karting any more, now its just a minicar, NO AERO NO ENCLOSEMENT
I mean if crashes are the issue just go full cage and belts
I don’t think anything is the solution here. Yes, safety is safety, but any way you look at it is promoting more reckless racing from the minds of the drivers and you’re changing the identity of karting from karts to effectively mini-cars, plus adding an additional expense for any damages you’re going to make. If anyone truly thinks karting is that dangerous, then just go race rental karts, because you don’t see the wheels covered in open wheel racing, and yet they are just fine
so it's about looks for you
Hi Sam! What’s the best way to become a faster driver without burning tons of money? And without buying own kart? I regularly practice on a local track and participate in Club100. I definitely became more consistent, but I'm not sure I'm learning to be faster.
Karting is rapidly losing its purity.
It sure is! Used to be lightweight and agile, nowadays, not so much
To truly MAKE karting safer, you'd have to remove the sidepods and rear bumpers. But no one wants to have that conversation
Would make you think before you act stupidly 😂 Had a older kart and was very aware of my feet ! One thing that has been met with silence is if you want to race you should also do some flagging . Have done both and sometimes in the same day !
Fire the F.I.A. and start your own sanctioning body that keeps things simple.
I’m a dictator, you wouldn’t want me in charge! 😂😂
Sam these fully covered kart in Brazil are the ones they use for the 500 miles event in Kart Granja Viana, with the 4 strokes GX390 karts. The 500 miles is a year end event where famous drivers like Massa and Barrichelo also race. They are not used in official competitions. But I also dislike the idea of the wheel covers that FIA is introducing
Agree with you 100%, has to be a consequence for stupidity & the wrong action. As well as punishment if it was dangerous. Seems like lawyers & people who don't understand sport trying to inject their presence & influence.
Sneaking their way in. I suspect we’re wrong and they really truly do care about our safety 🫠
If only they’d spend as much effort on actually making karting accessible to normal people…..
But how could they afford their private villas paid for? If they don’t get as much income? 😅
Do you agree with me? Is this the best solution if we must cover the wheels?
i think going fully enclosed is even worse. do you really want to spend twice the amount on bodywork? just leave karts as is
Hopefully the FIA will back off. If not I'm sure a sanctioning body is required to race at your local track. American Supercross/Motocross dropped the FIM because they were making it difficult. These organizations try to justify their existence by "solving" problems and charging you fees. All to allow you to race, your kart, on your local track with your friends. Ditch these behemoths and get back to competitive racing with your friends. I'm sure it will be cheaper and more fun. Put your money into where you race not on a deposit for another rich guys yacht.
Amen!
Excellent advice there, I have a 9 year old son he progressed from indoor to outdoor rental karting and then 6 months later we got him his own iame waterswift Kart Republic kart. His racing lines are spot on but when it comes to the corners he's still a little slow, he's doing the classic rolling into upto a corner and then hitting the throttle. I'm no expert as I'm just his dad and full time mechanic but I wish there was something I could do to give him help with the corners as that's the only thing letting him down. I'm trying to get him as much track time as possible as he's wanting to compete next year. I keep trying to tell him not to lift off to early before the corners and try using the brakes later and then excelerate out. But I keep hoping he will soon work this out that I'm trying to help him with. I don't know if anyone who possibly sees this as any helpful advice but I would appreciate it.
Thanks a lot man! It’s tough teaching your own child, almost feels like they do everything apart from listen to their dad, mine doesn’t listen to me either (he’s 11 soon)
It is Shit.
Braking esp in wet tracks in different corners.
I gotchu! When video is filmed will include this
I struggle with high grip conditions. Any tips? Recommendations in terms of driving and/or Setup? Thank you in advance :-) Edit: OTK Chassis and Rotax Max Senior
That’s definitely a Question Seb and I can help you with! When we film we will 100% cover this for you!
Close them now u protect them, in f4 they assume it’s still closed and do the same thing resulting in accidents so they close f4 wheels too, this will repeat and repeat until f1 isn’t an open wheel racing series anymore. Teach em young get rid of the wheel covers
It's the Halo moment of karting. Adds cost, weight, ugliness and laptime, but save some lives will pay off. All categories are going closed. The 90's P2 endurance evolved to close cockpit, Indy made the bumpers, we get used to this. A better solution would be extend the side pods and bumpers to the top of wheels not making a mudguard. For last make the contacts (any) lose time in race to educate the drivers.
Rollovers are the biggest safety issue in our sport. I dont know a good solution tho, maybe increase height of rear bumper and a larger front bumper?
It looks gay
would be cool to see a race weekend and the issues your drivers faced with conditions, the feedback and the adjustments made to get to the front
You know what, I was thinking about following Apollo for a while round next season, maybe a 6hr or 12hr race
Big questions are front and rear tracking width for different condition, how you set up for the rain (in general) and best ways to ensure your engine is making maximum power
Good question! That is definitely one which Seb will answer for you on the upcoming video ❤️
I should have fired my mechanic but he is me ! Found out actually a better track marshal and rental racer ! Scored 10 podiums in 13 races ! Wish I knew at 15 what I found out at 35 but still do ok at 55 but they won't let me race drivers my own age . The extra 30 + pounds of lead on my kart was no help ☹️😁🏁
Natural Lead? 😂 yeah don’t we all wish we knew then what we do now!
How do you rotate the kart in the wet? I watched the Club100 kart testers at Buckmore managing to get rotation everywhere where I am understeering unless I fully lock the rears which gives me very snappy rotation - what am I doing wrong?
Thanks for the question! I’m sure I’m one of the kart testers you mention in your comment! This will definitely be a question we try to answer. If not in a video I’ll reply back here anyways
I race senior Rotax with OTK chassis. I always try to have a very clean drive with minimal steering inputs and the least amount of corrections, but with that, I'm probably not carrying enough speed to the corners. I watch some onboards from my competitors and they drive much faster, but with much more steering corrections, sliding and missing some apexes. So what is the balance between being fast and agressive and smooth and slow ?
Feel free to watch my onboards on my channel to assess my driving
If you are ok with it we can go through your video and our opinions on it in a video. Any in particular you recommend?
@ I will select one tomorrow. How should I send to you because I think links are not allowed on the comments

Fenders
We already have these provisions and many more for those that want them… Rental karts. Wraparound bodywork, wheel protectors, axle covers. The lot. I’d also love to see the data to support that these tacked on, flimsy looking covers prevent consequences of wheel to wheel contact. The brackets look like a child could bend them by hand.
imagine this ends up like the halo
fuck safety, just let us race
My kid suffered broken bones in a massive rollover recently. Not his fault, was caused by someone else's bad driving. You cant enforce safe driving after someone is in hospital. With wheel pods you can still police safe driving using action cameras on each kart, just like they do in car racing series all around the world. Wheel pods are a step in the right direction. Saying it will change the "essence" of the sport is rubbish. Did Formula 1 lose its "essence" when seat belts were introduced? What about the mandatory rollover protection and the halo? Lewis Hamilton would likely be dead if not for the Halo. And now F1 is more popular than ever before.
From a bit of research on the web. The injury rate from 4 wheeled motorsports is higher than contact sports like rugby and AFL, and even more than sports with ntoriously high injury rates such as equestrian, skiing and snowboarding. And the nature of injuries (head, neck, spine, Brain Trauma) have more long term effects, and are more costly to treat than from most other sports. In karting, most of the injuries are to under 15 year olds. It looks like karting has a problem to fix. If wheel to wheel contact is a major source of the accidents that lead to injury. Wheel pods are probably the least solution that should be considered.
If it was actual fenders I'd have no problems
Like I said in my video, perhaps it’s time to go fully bodywork ala the Brazilian series
This better be a troll
Not for senior of shifter karts please. It looks horrible, for the youngsters yess it would be okay.
Wider front bumber and a small rear bumber change would do the trick too. Covering is not right way. Some side pods are flexing easily. Putting front wheel on front of competetors rear wheel can easily roll kart. Less flexing side pods (and wider front bumber) would decrease this danger.
get a suit next
60% increase in costs if wheel pods become mandatory? That's gotta be an error!
Sorry, I didn’t make it clear. Was meant to be a 60% increase in the total price of plastics
