Holy sh** I totally forgot about these videos. They were usually super expensive, like $90 (in Australia anyway, perhaps they weren’t as expensive in the U.S.). You had to buy them via mail or telephone order and they usually took like 1-3 months to get posted out to you. And they came in a cardboard sleeve instead of a plastic case like a normal movie. They were just the best videos to watch with a big group. You’d carry the tape with you everywhere you went for the first few weeks just in case the opportunity to pop it on presented itself. And it always did 😂
imagine if they all really died in 91. my life wouldnt be the same. the gonz brought back my love for skateboarding. and i love jason lees outlook and whole attitude. sucks he went full on hollywood tho
Spihk heart bust!? Spihk heart bust can you tell Jonah from the holy Bible Aye how come just because it says Carriage in the Bible so now as a result there is always someone directly behind me with a Carriage and as a result for me writing this in my screen the people at McDonald's gave me a small drink!!!!? But how can you put a stop to that!!!!¡!!?
Holy shit Jason Lee some mallrats dude reminds me of the good old days. Just chilling with the homies watch a skate vid get.pumped go skate. All the spots. Then we'd play some Sega because we had tude bro with our ocean Pacific clothes..tuff lol..then dinner and cartoons. ❤gotta get that multiplayer goldeneye in tho too sleepover bug new Yorker from pizza hut. Bam life
Spike Jonze was a nobody back then, although he was married to Sofia Coppela at the time, who's dad made the fucking Godfather movies, that could be it.
I know its like a little late but Jason just mentioned on the nine club that they just asked for the Jackson 5 song and whoever it was just asked to put a don't drink and drive message in the film.
To all those who are causing suffering in this world, directly or indirectly: Heed your dreams at night, those nightmares that you most assuredly are having are imploring you to change -before it’s too late… The quality of our dreams is both a reflection of our thoughts and actions as well as a general foreshadowing of the fate of our souls in the next life...A nightly, temporary karma that beckons us to change - for the good - so as to avoid a more permanent karma. Beauty(🌷)+Complexity(🌎) =Intent(❤️) The Figure 8 Analogy: An analogy on life, death, the dream-state and the symbolism intertwined within the human experience. We human beings are not traveling in the abstract motion of a straight line towards death (for instance, the numerical straight line of say 1-89). Instead, we are moving in the motion of a figure 8. The Figure 8 is a natural repeating pattern that is divided into two halves and is thus the perfect symbol to represent the human life cycle and our two primary states of existence that we are continuously moving in and out of -the Awake state and the Dream state. When we awake from sleep we come full circle to when we fall back asleep (represented by the bottom half of the figure 8 )and when we go into the dream state we come full circle to when we awake from the dream state (represented by the top half of the figure 8 ). Upon death; the figure 8 of life untwines, but it’s not the body untwining from the mind that this analogy represents. It's two states of mind untwining to form a larger state of mind. (8-0) Because the awake state is really a state -of mind, with our body's physical reality "consciously" intertwined; and the dream-state is also a state of mind, with our body's physical reality "subconsciously" intertwined. Therefore; upon death, these two states of mind untwine to form a “larger” state of mind. A state that has all the potentialities of the dream world (flying, telepathy, psychokinesis, etc) combined with all the actualities of the awake world(nature, form, bonds, etc). This I refer to as the transitional analogy. While conceiving The Figure 8 Analogy, I realized life and death must be perceived -from one point of view- as seperate entities(the transitional analogy(8-0), but must also be perceived -from another point of view- as inseparable entities(the symbolic analogy👇), both of which are ultimately linked by the dream-state. The symbolic analogy consists of the untwined figure 8 of life/the 'circle of death’, if you will, which -abstractly- overlapps the ‘circle of life’/the Earth, with the overlappment representing the dream-state, like the common area in a venn diagram, and implies that the dream state is just as much a part of life as is of death ~by which semi-explains precognitive dreams, prodromal dreams, "visitations" by deceased relatives, etc; for the dream-state has a foothold in the afterlife, and is based on the premise that “while our body sleeps, our dream state symbolically represents the state that awaits upon our body's ultimate rest.” In other words, while we are lying down and sleeping/dreaming, this natural process symbolizes where we go when we're ultimately lying down/dead -to a place "like" our dream-state...A state "of mind” with our body's physical form+bonds eternally engrained and intertwined. ✋🏿👁~8~👁🤚🏻
That first Plan B truly was mind blowing. This is still my favourite skate video though. Skating progressed so much in the time it wasn’t cool to the outsiders.
Video days, is awesome, for me at least, cause it seemed like a smaller, more close team. ( At least at first). And Guy is probably my favorite of all time, just his experiences, overcoming, getting back up. Yet, the video still has Gonz, jason and Rudy. Every person in that video, is so humble, and to this day down to earth, for how talented they were, ( are), and how much they impacted skateboarding. Video days kick ass...👍🤙🤟
true, but this set up the template. this created the modern skate video. You also have to think how fast skateboarding was progressing at this point. think how much crazier the tricks in virtual reality were to questionable, and that was just a one year difference.
best skate vid. how did spike jonze go go from this to making videos. you said i alonely. art. only spike could have done this. schnetiy ny mind my spelling was written and directed by kaufman. stil trying to firgure it out
cannot tell u how many times me n the crew watched this on vhs back in the day. unbelievably mandatory! highly influential!
This is where I knew I, as a vert and street slappy skater, was effed.
How weird is it that Spike Jonze went from skateboarding videos to acclaimed arthouse director.
A Lonely Weeaboo and Jason Lee went on to have his own Family Hour mainstream TV show for so many seasons lol
When you're cool, you're cool man.
Its not really weird in any way.
Not at all
The early 90s was a strange place.
Legit one of the coolest skate videos from the 90s
Master piece in skate history.

Not sure how much they actually were, but the ones we'd watch were basically bootleg copies.
Thank you for sharing. I didn't know that. I never thought of that. It was similar here in the US. Having the most videos was an accolade.
@@denislemieux4915 no, I think they were the proper copies, they just had a pretty low production budget so they kinda looked like bootlegs lol
Good for you Jason Lee, i should have stuck with skateboarding as a career.
The music went with Gonz's part nicely. Kind of soothing.

if I were to go off this video alone, Jason Lee was way smoother than Gonz
Not a skateboard guy, so I have no context for what this vid represents.
It was probably the most influential skateboarding video of its era, it set the benchmark for everyone else to follow
