I wasn't even born yet got this VHS in 99 and was able to watch it for about five years before it was ate by my VCR I can say that the movie has more to do with me eating pavement than Tony Hawk Pro Skater video games just attempting jump steps
Aim 47 and still rolling, its all in your mind bro. I have 10 max 15 years to skate. If my body cant handle it anny more, aim going to do Bob Ross paintings on skateboards lol. There is so manny fun things to do in live!!
@@ChemistryAmsterdam fuck yes! Im 44 in the process of building a diy crete skate spot in my back garden with my 10 year old son. Never to old too have fun on a board even if it might just be pumping around the bowl when im an old dude. Key is dont stop.
Blind was my favorite, man I remember junior high talent show me and a buddy skated in on stage in front of everybody in school it was the first time we got video taped landed everything, man we were so nervous,I was but skating was so fun back then, good times on my old blind board with like no tail at all. Loved it...
This vid came out right as I hit pause on skating after 4 years and got into bmx and didn't see it for years later. This vid really pushed skating into the next next level from the 80s era skills.
James Radski nice! I think mine was a Jim Theibaud (spelling?)... I can't believe I can remember that name, and the graphics were of a superman type on top of a building with a T instead of S. I don't remember why, but there was something special about that board, maybe it was when they started working towards making good noses (they didn't really have noses until late 80's I think). I definitely remember the first board I was obsessed with, the Natas Cat board, that was the tipping point where after that the noses and tails were about equal. I'm going to say that when they started making the noses slightly bigger than the tails, but were the same shape on both ends, THIS was the best design ever! I haven't skated in at least 15 years (except for a few days 8 years ago) and at times I really miss it. There's nothing better than going to your favorite spot, opening the car door and blasting some Dag Nasty, Descendents, Nofx, propagandhi, etc. during a 3-6 hour session with a jug of convenient store brand iced tea, some friends, and trying like hell to land that 360 flip/impossible. And just when you pull it off... "did you see it, did you see it?! I got it!!!" Just to get a sea of vacant stares, and "yeah, we believe you." But you know damn well that you gotta do it again because they ain't buying it! As I sit here contemplating going for one more try, I know it'll only be a disappointment. Not just the time it'll take just to get back to a point where you don't fall of doing a "tic-tac", and Ollie 2+ inches, but all the other things that made it all worth doing. What 40 year old is going to come out with you for 10 minutes, let alone 2 hours? Where are you going to be able to skate without getting the cops called after 10 minutes? What are the chances that your board WON'T be mistaken for a gun, and who's going to cart your bullet riddled body away? It's best left as a memory for me, there's not much left to enjoy after mid 20's. Joy is for the young, and I feel sorry for the young kids today, they'd rather text all day than to do something fun (unless they still fuck. Do teenagers still fuck? That's probably still fun for them, but I think most kids are gay, or bi, so I don't know what kind of weird shit they do with that. Probably too many dicks flopping around for my tastes)
I bet that summer u mentioned is the same summer we all learned a lot. like tre flips off tiny driveway bumps and slow mo backside flips..greatest time for progression
I was pissed that I missed out on Jason Lee's 1stc Blind deck. I ordered it from CCS and was sent his 2nd deck. It had all these wierd animals that looked like a 5 year old drew them, and I remember the nose being pointy. I got Chris Miller's 1st Planet Earth deck shortly after cause I didnt care for that 2nd JLee deck. Wish I held on to all that stuff. Had a TON of the OG smaller indy companies decks and swag
It's true that when watching that video, it really made me want to go skating immediately! Back in 1991 it was totally astonishing to see the type of tricks they were doing, and so inspiring. Even to this day it's still an amazing skate video!
i always loved the shot where Mark Gonzales lays down on his board and goes through the intersection. I think they showed that part in the movie Kids if im not mistaken. i had seen it before that but seeing it in kids had me so hyped. i never could lay down on a board like that i tried for years
When this came out, almost none of us had seen Guy Mariano since winter 89/90's Ban This, and my god, Video Days was a long needed breath of freshness given the crop of vids at the time: Propaganda was a bold, brave move by Lance Mountain to keep the ball rolling, but with mixed results (for all of their cinematography, the Powell vids always seemed rushed, the riders seemed under-represented (at least the ones we wanted to see), and making the riders dress in the same clothers over different days sure didn't help. H-Street gave us a fucking EP/trailer and then split up the team into Planet Earth and Life while the riders we all wanted to really see at the time moved on to Plan B with Ternasky. Vision struggled for air with a smaller team and visibly lower production values. Santa Cruz/NHS decided to pad things out with a lot of included (but undesired) raw footage (although they did make up for it with a sick soundtrack). A few smaller labels kept up the tech standards and introduced new riders (like New Deal with Rob Dyrdek and Blockhead with Rick Howard). I don't recall seeing anything from World, but much later since have seen the Dune/Colvin promo. Even though Jason Lee and Mark Gonzales days of being the fresh new guys were behind them, they still delivered quality skating. Of course this is Mark's finest hour, artistically and technically. To this day, hearing the Jackson 5's "I want you back" fills me with memories of seeing a noseblunt slide and something late-shove-it'ed for the very first time. Probably the best made and conceived skate video of all time
yeah Video Days brought us into the modern era for sure.. We all knew Powell & the SantaCruz vert guys we're dorks. Yeah we had H-street but... It was a great video,so many good things happened in the nineties I wish they would had never ended, the everclear song where he says I want to go back, back, back in time comes to mind and go skate....
I feel like Jason around the 18:25 mark is having a emotional realization that life (even though he is now rich and famous) was better back then when he was young and free. Life now is a boundless matrix of enslavement and getting worse by the second.

Who's your favorite skater in the video? Stevie Williams. Jereme Roger's was a kook back then and still is!

Before spike jonze went full hipster, he made the greatest skateboard video not named Animal Chin, of all time.
Well put.
yeah you said that same shit on the Blind Video Days post. Come up with something new.

Animal Chin was directed by Stacy Peralta in 87. Spike hadnt even shown up until 89 when Rubbish Heap came out

Anyone have any more info on how those titles were done? Spike talks about it around 6:25
Love for the blind

Jason looks like Pablo without the moustache
P Rod and Rogers made themselves look like the biggest kooks! Watched it in 99? WTF PAINFUL!
P Rod is younger and had at least seen the vid. And Rogers has always been a kook anyway lol.
He was 6 when the movie originally came out and 14 when he watched it for the first time.
Remember my mate had the Gonzales macaroni and cheese slick

It's really funny when I try to tell people today that Jason Lee is/was a pro skater. No one believes me. Also, Gonz ripped on vert. Should've competed.
