Natas and Gonz the best to ever do it they’re creativity and their appreciation and they’re enjoyment of skating , they did not put fortune and fame before skating and that is why they’re still the artists that they are today. Thank you, Tommy for this great interview. It is 2024 and I’m here, bro.
To date, Natas is my favorite Skater. So much style. Just no one like him, even to this day. I really enjoyed this video brought back many good memories skating in the 80's..... Its nice to know what Natas is up to these days. Seems like a really humble guy too. Thanks Natas for making us all better Sk8ters 😎
Nice to know that two of my biggest skate influences (and let's face heroes) from my childhood come across so humble and self deprecating. Back in the dinosaur days of dissecting every detail of Thrasher pics and the rare video release. I'm glad my dad threw my old broken/banged up decks up into the garage loft instead of tossin them, he was right that we all become sentimental one day.
Totally ! I want to start skating again just watching this vid....Streets on fire was like visual methamphetamines back then😂 Remember watching that vid over and over then skating for hours trying new stuff. Good times... the best times.
Here's a tasty, salty, Japanese chicken recipe that's really good shared with friends, and a beer, gently fried outdoors on a camping stove www.zojirushi.com/app/recipe/-i-miso-i-marinated-chicken-i-teppanyaki-i-
So psyched on this! Natas' early skating is still so epic. Surf style. I think you can still see that type of style influence in somebody like Stranger. I dont know.
Nata's has no idea that my life was changed cause of him....Growing up in a small college town in Oregon during the 80's was pure hell for skaters , we had to fight literally to ride. When my friends and I seen Natas on Thrasher it was like a switch turned on and our town became "skatable" . The way he used the walls and rounded curbs for nocomplies was insane... My best Christmas was getting my Nata's Panther Board complete with Indies ...My dad knew I loved Nata's and told the skate shop to build a Nata's board that these kids would want 😂 I freaking became a true obsessed street skater that day. They need to make an updated shaped board with his OG prints a mix of the early 90's and late 80's shape and concave , kinda like Mike Vallely is doing with Street Plant. I would buy a board esp if a large chunk of the money goes to him, the dude is legit very humble .
I can relate, brother, I was a skater in Georgia in the 80's. Needless to say, the plethora of scumbag rednecks hated anyone that skated with a passion. Every time we wanted to skate, we had to play hide from the rednecks. I hated those pricks
I love the story Max Schaaf tells about Natas at skatecamp and he breaks his baby blue shoelace and Max happens to have the same one & gives it to him. Then Natas breaks his board and gives it to Max. Later on Max pieces it out cause "you know..it had Swiss" LOL Natas is awesome!
I was stoked when SMA inked the contract with Santa Cruz! SC had imo the best concave and pop of the time, bends and dogtails be damned. Skips original boards were like pieces of art and by far my favorites! ( I loved all the various touches, molds, etc.) but SC had the performance and the distribution, it was a match made in heaven at the time for me...
You're in luck, we just caught Matt in Oakland before his show at the Fox Theater! Currently in the editing bay. Expect that episode in the next month. Ever consider a career in tarot cards or magic ball reading?
Hey TG, awesome episode. I really enjoy the content and look forward to part 2! Natas is a legend. Some suggestions I have are to have Dennis Busenitz, Rodney Mullen and Jeremy Klein on the show if you haven't already. Also, maybe this has been done before but you could focus an episode on the history of Real. I'm a huge fan of the company and plan on buying a board for my birthday. Cheers, keep doing what you're doing.
I totally did the upside bolts on a Natas SMA board no less for awhile because the nose was tiny....crazy high ollies but man did that eat up your shoes and just dig into your foot.
🙌 Do you think Natas 'left' skating because he's one of those high achievers that needed a new challenge to face (i.e. design), or more because he had some really bad injuries? Or perhaps a combination? When I say 'left' I mean the limelight rather than skating as a whole :)
The Natas legacy gets fairly strange. In the 80's parents would write letters to Thrasher claiming Natas was satanic because his name backwards spells Satan. This was all during the Satanic Panic and subsequent hysteria that kids were in the woods sacrificing animals and having senaces. It only added more fuel to Natas' mystique.
There needs to be a 24 hour skate TV network. (Maybe i should post this on Oprahs or Tony Hawks page) LOL--The audience and content are built in!! Run all the old Santa cruz, Bones Brigade and new vids, contests & trick contests. People need to know about guys like TG and Natas. Your so important.
I was an 80s kid and watched wheels of fire until the VHS tape snapped. My first proper deck was a Santa Cruz Rob Roskopp eyeball. Natas was god...but my parents wouldn’t get me the Natas because they were wacky Christian types who thought that Natas was Satan spelled backwards and therefore evil or some crap lol!
natas kaupas and Rodney Mullen along with Tommy Guerrero question has Tony Hawk Matt Hensley Brian Lotti Jesse Newhouse Mike rusek Jr Gonzalez John Nicholson John Scott Raffi Villes, Rick Merriman Terry Feeney Vinny all of these people are some of the greatest skateboarding School of ever existed oh and I can't forget big chocolate Shannon Gillespie Morocco Ray West Chris glass Brian hickey Mike Agurcuss Henry Hsu

I wish Natas would do the nine club and do like a 3 or 4 hour chat.

I remember seeing Streets of Fire for the first time back in 89/90.....Christ,I remember it like it was yesterday...
we all did !!!! lol
Totally ! I want to start skating again just watching this vid....Streets on fire was like visual methamphetamines back then😂 Remember watching that vid over and over then skating for hours trying new stuff. Good times... the best times.
I think we rewound the hydrant spin like 15-20 times the first time we watched it. Jaws on floor. Like.. what?
A Cardiel episode would be super tight!
Comments, suggestions or chicken recipes with no cilantro... We want to hear from ya'll!
cilantro helps to remove metals!

To bad he won't do interview type stuff, that's why we never saw him on the letters really. But it would be amazing
Great show as always! Get Jason Jesse, Grosso, Cardiel, Gonz, or maybe Manderson.
Natas's parts are legendary.
BS with TG needs to be a podcast!
would be rad to get Jesse Martinez on the show! so stoked on these videos!
Really cool to see how you both have remained creative over the years. I'd be really curious to see part 3 with the story behind Designarium!
Shit, I remember putting bolts in upside down, haha.. we called 'em 'suicide bolts.' --tore our shoes up in no time.
Looking forward to part 2!
We called them "ollie bolts". We also put a bearing thru the bolt. That trend didn't last long.
Good show brother. Just catching up and viewing previous episodes. Looking forward to the continuation.
Amazing! Can't wait for part 2! Keeep up the good work!!!
I love this show so much. It just keeps on getting better and better. NATAS! Thank you Tommy (and Jim of course).
So psyched on this! Natas' early skating is still so epic. Surf style. I think you can still see that type of style influence in somebody like Stranger. I dont know.

Oh man bolts sticking up on the top of the deck. I remember doing that and ripping through so many shoes..lol. Great interview!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was so happy when I saw this video in my YT subscribtion list! I'm always thrilled to see what's up with Natas ! :-)
Oh yeah and next time I would love to see Gonz or Jason Lee :-)
I love the story Max Schaaf tells about Natas at skatecamp and he breaks his baby blue shoelace and Max happens to have the same one & gives it to him. Then Natas breaks his board and gives it to Max. Later on Max pieces it out cause "you know..it had Swiss" LOL Natas is awesome!
Tommy G and Natas!! Fucking RAD!!!
Yes!! Great work all, keep them coming!
Dog Ears and upside down front bolts...The Sk80's ruled.
Upside down front bolts? What's that?
@@stoshbeast1 i believe they did that to have extra grip
Natas is the raddest skater on the planet.
best skate talk show hands down.
STOKED to find this interview!

( I loved all the various touches, molds, etc.) but SC had the performance and the distribution, it was a match made in heaven at the time for me...
public enemy shirts, multi colored shorts and shredding curbs come to mind. wallride extrordinaire
Good questions, I always wondered about the SC to 101 transition
I remember bolts upside down! It seemed ludicrous but we all tried it.
Matt Hensley needs to be on here @bs with tg
You're in luck, we just caught Matt in Oakland before his show at the Fox Theater! Currently in the editing bay. Expect that episode in the next month. Ever consider a career in tarot cards or magic ball reading?

I totally did the upside bolts on a Natas SMA board no less for awhile because the nose was tiny....crazy high ollies but man did that eat up your shoes and just dig into your foot.

Do Mark Gonzales

Dude what song is the natas intro!?
Anyone know the song in the beginning?
I started wearing Converse Cons when I skated because of Natas
Nice to see a lot of standout skateboarders before the pop sickle shape boards.
Where is Part 2? Freaking me out, man...
Droppin' next Friday!
🙌

When I say 'left' I mean the limelight rather than skating as a whole :)
+Mark Wojcik shattered ankle in Australia.
Thanks. I knew he had that bad injury, I didn't realise it was a career ender or close to though
Best dude ever 😀😀
