  • This is a tutorial of the song Yellow by Coldplay. I figured out the official chords, and strumming of the acoustic guitar. This is exactly how Chris plays it live and on the album!

Great video +Paul Davids you have the best tutorials! :)
I believe your diagram for the Abm isn't correct though you play it correctly in the video. If you look at your diagram it should be press down on the 5th string with the ring finger and the 4th string in this case the B should be open as you stated in the video.

you can also play it from the bottom 4, mute. 4,4 open open. easier transition but it doesn't ring out quite as much because of the muted fifth string

@@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons It's always the best creative outlet when a player composes their own music. But that said, it is generally more difficult to "copy songs" with convincing accuracy.
Far harder to convey someone else's creativity accurately, than to convey your own creativity, as this is your own work.

I always underestimated this song for sounding too beautiful with probably-very-simple chords. ...surprise!! now it's twice beautiful and am loving the challenge of learning how to play it. What makes it sound btfl is the fact that 2 strings are actually tuned in the same note. Less is more. And viceversa. Gonna take me some time until I learn using my thomb, never did it before. Thanks for sharing. Btw, I did liked it and suscribed!

When I try to play the B chord the way Chris Martin does it with his thumb, my palm ends up muting the first string, so I bar the last 3 strings with my index finger. It’s a lot more pressure on the finger but for me it’s a solution to get that 1st string ringing. Thank you for the video! This is a great tutorial! I had no idea the “secret” behind this song was changing the tuning of the 1st and the 4th string. I love the bright sound these chords are making!

Great Tutorial Paul. Make a video like this with 'Trouble' pleasee..The song is so rich with the alternative tunning and open chords. When I realized how Chris Martin changes standard tunning into the weird ways he does. He definitely owns my admiration. It's not easy learn his acoustic covers just by watching him play...That's why your tutorial videos rocks man!! help me out!

Great tutorial Paul. I love this song and try and put it in my set list everytime I play out, but just don’t like to change up the tuning as much as I’d need to, so I just capo the 3rd or 4th and play it with G shape 1,5,4 with some little highlights.

This is a great lesson, thank you. One small addition would be when you play the Emaj7, it is easier _not_ to use the pointer finger on your left hand as you do playing a regular E7 shape. Instead use your middle and ring finger as Chris does in the live videos. This way it is way easier to just slide that shape back up to the B chord without fumbling. Once you do it a couple times the B chord becomes an easy grip and you can see why Chris chooses to do it that way.
