    Definitely the best channel on the net for beginners and intermediates non English natives.
    I appreciate a lot the vocabulary you are using and the speed of the lessons and the explanations.
    Very very nice English accent.
    You transmit the calm and the patience necessary to learn.
    That way you will add a lot of subscribers from abroad as my case.

  • @chrisdick2305
    @chrisdick2305 6 лет назад +1

    I believe Chris also tunes his D string down to B which makes it much easier to play in the key of B (D does not play well with D#). So you would play B on the bottom four strings (7-9-7-6) letting the top two strings ring open for that full chime sound, then go to an F#6 on the second fret (2-4-4-3-2 open high D#) and then an easy 2 finger E7 (open-2-open-1-open-open.) the chorus is E7 to an A# minor (from the bottom 4-mute-4-4-open-open) then to that F#6. Try this out and you will sound pretty much exactly the way he plays it live.

    Sorry I forgot to add that when he goes to the chorus he plays the E7 an octave up the first time (13th fret and he finishes the song with a lovely F# min #11 before the final E7. That chord is from the sixth string 2-mute 2-2-open-1. Have fun guys.

    Hi Joe. I've just happened across your video for Yellow by Coldplay. The acoustic guitar throughout the whole song is tuned - (high to low) - D#, B, G, B, A, E. The D string being tuned down to B gives a nice "droning" sound to the song as it's in the key of B, and the D string is played open throughout the whole song - I think - as it's a long time since I've played the song. I hope this is helpful, as it's in no way intended to be critical of your work.

    First version: If you move your ring finger along with the pink to the D-string you can keep on playing the D string as well.
    second version: I can't play the G like you do with the ring finger on the low E-string and the pink on the high e-string. Short fingers. The way I play the G I don't have the index figher free for the B-string.

      +Mark Davison Hey Mark, thanks for taking the time to get in touch. Yeh it's a fine balance, I do know what you mean, but I also think a big part of playing is for the student to work the arrangement out, this helps so much with developing the ears, which is also a massive part of playing. Hope you don't take any of this the wrong way. Keep in touch, and if I can help let me know.

    • @MD-ww4bh
      @MD-ww4bh 7 лет назад

      JoesGuitar lessons I suspect you are correct Joe, I've found that as I improve I need less information. Timing is just something I'm struggling with at the moment. Hope that will pass too!
      Really like your relaxed style, just easy to watch & pick up how to play. Thanks again.

    • @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons
      @JoeMurphysGuitarlessons  7 лет назад

      I appreciate what your saying Mark, when starting out it does help to have as much info as poss. However, let me give you some tips for learning songs. If timing is a problem for you, play along with the CD a while so you can get familiar with the tempo/speed of the song. Then try without CD , listen to see if you think it has improved. If not try a metronome, just a basic click at the same tempo as the song. With this song "Yellow" it all pretty much down strokes, so you don't have to worry too much about right hand. Try to avoid any tutorials that go into a lot of detail about right hand ie, up up down down etc, I'm not a fan of this, but if it works for you fair enough. My feeling is if you know the song well enough and practice enough you will come up with ideas for the right hand, always start basic, then develop from there. this way you will never have to rely on down up down up or whatever it is. Your quite correct, timing is important and chord changes, but you right hand is what will make you sound different to everyone else.. hope that helps
