- With the news that Stop & Shop is planning to close eight locations in Massachusetts, residents who use the Brockton store said the closure would leave the community with limited alternatives. WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.
It's expensive. What do you expect.
They should start making more market baskets!!! More affordable grocery shopping!
Stop and shop is the one of the worst grocery chains in america. their prices are almost up there with whole foods but the quality and service is abysmal.
TREMENDOUSLY OVER-PRICED.
Legalize crime and you walk 2 miles
That's not true Brockton has 2shaws and a market basket
There is a ton of grocery stories in Brockton. Walmart in Avon is like 3 minutes away and Walmart in Brockton is like 10 minutes away. Brockton isn’t walking city like Boston. High percentages of Brockton residents use cars to commute to work.
Imagine how much stealing must be happening if (we were to believe this report) the store had a monopoly on food, groceries, banking and pharmaceuticals for that area and they STILL couldnt make a profit enough to justify having a store in that area. Must've been a nightmare to work there.
5.5 miles north (15 min drive) is Stop & Shop Stoughton
S&S is the absolute worst, they have no regard for their customers who they price gouge and their employees who they exploit. They say they are a “Quincy based” supermarket chain, but they haven’t been owned by anyone in the USA for decades, but rather an international conglomerate based in Amsterdam who owns thousands of stores and gobbles up chains all over the world. They couldn’t care less about Brockton or who lives there. I remember when that store opened, it was one of the first “superstores” and made tons of money. I worked for that company for over 32 years in their IT department and was laid off by phone 3 hours before my shift was to start, mostly because I was over 50 and my benefits and salary cost them too much money, never mind that I started in 1978 making less than 3 bucks an hour. I wouldn’t shop in one of their f’n stores if they had the last loaf of bread on Earth. It’s a shame, I used to be proud to work there because I felt we had the best stores around. Go to Market Basket at Westgate it’s worth the trip.
Market basket has real cashiers and baggers. Stop and shop is archaic. There self checkout is horrible, always errors and lights flashing. Hell, u can't even get a hot coffee and fresh donuts from.there bakery anymore.
@@jamie.777 Self checkout is another job killer, however they do require support both on the user end at the store, but behind the scenes at the help desk and technical support people who designed and built this wireless technology, and when it doesn’t work the store employees have no training and we (they) are left with angry and frustrated customers. I refuse to bag groceries in any store, there are people that get paid to do it that are doing other things, and I’m not getting a discount for doing their job. I don’t care if they are collecting carts in the parking lot or whatever, I will ask for the front end manager to be paged and they bag them.
Wal-Mart, Shaws, Vicente's, Market Basket, Ocean State Job Lot and others are all within 15 minutes away from there and is cheaper and better than Stop and Shop. That's probably why they are closing along with the other Stop and Shops in Massachusetts.
Oh wow, 2 miles. Too bad.
Walmart is a mile away!
F walmart
What are These Shoppers Talking about? There are more Food-Shopping Choices in Brockton, than just about Any Other City in Massachusetts. I can WALK from that Stop&Shop to Price Rite. Plus, if you drive about 5 Minutes, there is Market Basket and Aldi’s. If You drive another 5 Minutes, there is Shaw’s. Finally, if you drove 10 Minutes from that Stop&Shop, in the other direction, there is another Shaw’s. Bottom-Line: IF YOU LIVE IN BROCKTON, THERE ARE SUPERMARKETS IN EVERY DIRECTION!
P.S.- There are 3 Walmarts in The area( one about 12 Minutes away, in Abington, and a Super Walmart, about 1 Minute from that Stop&Shop, on N. Montello.
2 miles!? lol
My wife and I live in rural Upstate New York and we travel over 20 miles to shop.
I assume you have an automobile. Not everyone in Brockton does. Ever grocery shop & then get on a bus?
Yea majority people walk
Good for you allot of people in Boston can't afford a car so your comment is absurd
Brockton has 2 shaws, 1 market basket and a Vincent’s super market.
EBT card mania
Well, if they weren't getting robbed daily by the entitled shoplifters the store wouldn't be under performing and bleeding money. Don't be shocked when Vicente's and Walmart follow suite after all the shoplifters move to their stores. Here's an idea! Clean up and police your neighborhood of the punks robbing stores.
The basketball beep people are angry
care to explain?
Bad neighborhood
Bruh 2 miles is nothing.
But what if you don’t have a car?
@@mjeanlouis93 Bike or public transportation.
@@user-jo1zj1vg4v Public transit in Brockton is infrequent. And bicycle infrastructure is horrendous over there too.
Maybe everybody should not have exploited Stop & Shop bags that were used in Karen Read's investigative process.
Stop&Shop has ONLY MASSIVELY OVER-PRICED items. They’re MUCH better off WITHOUT IT!!
Stop & Shop is tired of getting robbed all the time. They're getting out of the hood.
Bidenomics strikes again.
They started Plans on Closing that Stop&Shop, when Trump was in Office. How do Feel now🤣?
Dumbest comment ever. They wanted to close stores before Biden was in office. Biden took over when unemployment was almost 7%. How you feel now?
Well I’m overjoyed that this store is closing. I attempted to use the self checkout at this location and seeing that i never used one before I sat my basket on the counter so that I could read the screen and figure out how to use the machine. I was met with hostility and treated like I was stealing something, instead of the associate trying to help me she hovered over me and kept staring at me i ended up using the regular checkout. Racism in America is still a thing and I’m overjoyed that this store is closing. Maybe now that girl can stare at her television all day and learn how to not insult black people. Good riddance
2 miles ? WTF these people are crying about nothing lol
Do you have a car?
Funny. All the baby "daddy's" dont wanna work, welfare is better 😂
2 miles. Lmfao. Cry more.
Try that without a car? It can get a bit challenging.
Don't let the mayor fool you he wants that property to build condos
More like housing Projects, Brockton is a friggin dump
Capitalism...carry on
Growing food costs money
Hopefully Market Basket will take it over it would be an upgrade
