Today there are 80 million Tamils in the world, more than there are French, Colombians, or Kenyans. Most Tamils live in North and East Sri Lanka and in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, literally Tamil country. Tamil Nadu is now a state in India but for thousands of years Tamilakam or the homeland of the Tamils was much larger, and ruled by independent kingdoms. Tamil culture is the last surviving classical civilisation because they have preserved their beliefs, culture, and language intact for 2000 years.
But who are the Tamils, what is their story, and what does it have to do with 700 billion golden coconuts. Well Let's Find Out.

So you have to make another video on Kerala and Malayalis (Malayalam language speakers). Modern day Kerala and it's language Malayalam have started to split from the then Tamil initiating from last centuries of BC and completed by the 8th century AD from commencement of separate calendar system in Kerala called Kollam Era. The earliest stone inscription with a reference on Kerala is the Edicts of Ashoka (BC 274-237). Kerala is mentioned as "Keralaputho" (Kerala Puthra Sanskrit word meaning sons of Kerala) in the second and thirteenth Ashoka Sthambhas. It may be noted that Kerala is not mentioned as "Cheram" while "Cholas" and the "Pandyas" are named as such. As of now, the earliest inscription which could be ascribed to Malayalam language and the inscribed phrase is different from the Tamil is the Hero Stone procured from the Pulikomb of Theni district which date backs to 2nd century BC.
The migration of Jews, the arrival of Saint Thomas and his descendants Saint Thomas Christians, the first Mosque of South Asia, the spice trade through the Muziris port, Kollam port, the arrival of Portuguese, the first printing press in South Asia, the gold reservoir of Padmanabha Swamy temple which is mentioned in the video all happened in Kerala and are the integral part of us making us Malayalis and Malayalam culture distinct from the Tamils and Tamil culture elsewhere. We Malayali culture embraces the difference among us making Kerala a thriving place of cultural diversity(54%Hindus, 26%Muslims, 18%Christians) in tandem with harmony unlike in Tamil culture.
Therefore the Cheras, Kerala, Malayalam and Malayali should not be identified with the Tamils in Common Era.

Linguistically they are sister languages, Modern Tamil and Malayalam. Both descended from the same language and both have varied different degrees of archaic to that ancestor language. As they are in same language family they have shared vocabularies too.
Eg., {mukanaka naṭpatu naṭpanṟu neñcattu
akanaka naṭpatu naṭpu.
tirukkuṟaḷ
ISO15919}
{mukanaka naṭpatu naṭpaṉṟu neñcattu
akanaka naṭpatu naṭpu.
tirukkuṟaḷ}
Apart from the word നട്പു/நட்பு(today it is present as നൺപ്/நண்பு in malayalam) every other words are still present in malayalam exactly as it was pronounced in thirukural time.
Thirukural{ISO} = real/pure malayalam{ISO} = standard malayalam(english){ISO}
But today modern tamil the word നക/நக is present as நகை/നകൈ but malayalam able to preserve it as നക/நக. All these words are still present in the Malayalam dictionaries. So Malayalam language can claim a bunch of Sangam literature and is not the monopoly right of Modern Tamil.

Majority of Indians in South Africa are from Tamilnadu, Northern India(Hindi speaking) and Telugu speaking parts of India . There are some small Gujarati people and other groups. But the majority are Tamil or Hindi speaking. I’m a proud South African as we have our own South African culture but we also love our own roots- You can even see the influence of India in the food that we consume- almost every famous fast food chain has a bit more spice to the menu - Admittedly, most Indians in South Africa (70’- to present day) can’t speak our native languages as we’ve become way too anglicized- taking English as our home language- however our grandparents and some parents still speak the Indian languages. But there is still a great pride given to culture with Bollywood-Kollywood being very big here as well as learning Indian music etc. I can tell you that Tamils in South Africa have definitely not lost that blind optimism and pride for their culture. Tamils here still believe it’s the most beautiful language ever. Diwali and other festivals are practiced here, but amongst the Tamils - the holy time of Thaipoosam Kavady is taken very seriously.

As an Indonesian, I can see many Tamil heritage founded in Indonesia starting from the languages, the cuisine, the fashion, etc. Starting from the language, the native Palava script founded throughout Indonesia which is also the writing system of Java, Bali, and Old Malay resembles the writing system of the Tamil language, the characteristics of the "M" shape is very intensively used in the Javanese and Balinese script resembling Tamil. Secondly the cuisine, in Indonesia there is a famous and popular snack called "kue Appam", when I furtherly researched it, it was actually brought from South India because the ingredients and the shape was identically the same (using coconuts), and in Indonesian cuisine we use "Santan" (coconut milk) in almost everything, the same as to tamil/dravidian cuisine. And for fashion, just be shocked to surprise, both Tamil and Indonesian men wear a single cloth for their lower dress, its called as Sarung in Indonesia and Lungi in south India, exactly the same, probably brought in by Tamilians to Indonesia during the reign of Hindu/Buddhist kingdoms in Indonesia before the 13th century AD

@ChArlIe Sharma it translates to - while saying (or calling my country), senthamizhnadu (which means lush Tamil country), it’s like honey flowing in my ears ( a similar expression to madhur gaan or meethe vachan/ meethi boli). An old poetic line used to convey the love for our language.
I'm a malayali, neighbour of Tamilnadu. I know that the malayalam is made from tamil. That's why we are so similar language and accent than other languages in india.

I was born in Tamil Eelam and I grew up in France. I am so proud to be part of such rich and old culture. Thank you so much for this video that honoured us
As an American of Tamil ancestry, I feel greatly appreciative you made and posted this video!
"To us all towns are our own, everyone is our kin,
Life's good comes not from others' gifts, nor ill,
Pains and pain's relief are from within,
Death's no new thing, nor do our bosoms thrill
When joyous life seems like a luscious draught.
When grieved, we patient suffer; for, we deem
This much-praised life of ours a fragile raft
Borne down the waters of some mountain stream
That o'er huge boulders roaring seeks the plain
Tho' storms with lightning's flash from darkened skies.
Descend, the raft goes on as fates ordain.
Thus have we seen in visions of the wise!
We marvel not at the greatness of the great;
Still less despise we men of low estate."
Kaniyan Poongundran, Purananuru - 192
~ 3rd century BCE
(The first two lines of this poem are the ones Cogito quotes in the video)
