That’s good bc schools have given up properly teaching history for the most part, just the basics… I never learned anything abt Ancient Greece or Rome in school… also nothing abt pre contact America
The problem with the venetians wasn’t their presence. It was that they controlled trade through the empire, gaining 10 times from it that the emperor himself. The empire was more or less their protectorate. That’s why the Greeks hated them. They had no issue with all the other peoples running around.
They hated pretty much all the Latins. Yes for political reasons, but also cultural. Let us even ignore the religious factor, even though the schism would have no doubt spilled over into popular opinion. Then you are left with an isolationist capital that a few decades prior to the arrival of the crusaders had committed a civilian lead genocide against not just Venetians, but the Pisans, and Genoans as well.
Excellent...with a good materialist analysis. It took me a long time to understand the East Roman empire and its fall. One can see it was nothing to do with religion but class struggle and plunder by nobles and landowners....the fact that it was Christians against each other for greed and plunder illuminates the 3:36:41 truism that the banners of Christendom were little different than the banners of the dreaded Huns centuries before.

@@fciolino I’m going to start this series up again early next year from the prospective of the ottomans - Part 14 ‘The Rise of Osman’ - what do you think ?
@ I think that’s perfect. I can’t wait and I know you’re going to do an amazing job on this 3rd and final chapter of the conquest. I’m just grateful for what you’ve done already because I can imagine how much hard work this takes. Thank you from California🌁
A crusader told the citizens of Zara that the other crusaders wouldn’t attack them because they were Christians. They are the ones who decided to fight. Poor citizens. I think Venice was 100% responsible for the disaster of the fourth crusades. Kind of gross if you ask me.
Sure, but the Crusades were in response to the surge of militant Islam that arose after the death of Mohammad. From 620 onward, Churches and Temples across Syria, Turkey, and Northern Africa and Spain were destroyed. That was kind of gross too.
1:43:07 observant art nerd- I’m just wondering why that center horse is wearing a blanket, when in reality as it’s shown it would probably add weight, heat, and hamper movement in battle. Perhaps artistic flair? I’d love to talk to some of those artists. Maybe a junior monk was subbing in at the illumination room and couldn’t draw horse haunches.
I kinda chuckled when you said "when in doubt, blame the byzantines". Was it a humor attempt or my humor taste is just weird? Haha. Still, great quality content, I never thought I'd enjoy delving deep into the details of what motivated each characters, what did they think at the time, and the consequences of their actions.
Personally I love that little tweak of humour. It brings more life and realism to the history. It’s easy to forget that the people were actually real people, who also had their own unique humours and characteristics.
3:06:00 I do not understand that part. Wasn't Alexios IV the prince who escaped Constantinapole and brought the Crusaders with him to take the city? If so, why was he in a dungeon at that point? I'm afraid I might've missed something since I was working and not paying full attention to the podcast.
Alexios the 4th created his own problems as far as I can tell. As well as problems for everyone who were supposed to be his people. I can't blame the people for being angry 😤. However I think I need to go back because I think I missed how he got deposed in the 1st place. Considering how many of the regular people suffered because he basically went to what has been their long time enemy and made a deal that he really couldn't uphold it doesn't matter how it happened, he's at fault. I can't help but wonder though what would have happened if his Uncle had just offered all of the crossbowmen and anybody with a ballista some gold if they were the one to actually hit him with a bolt when they paraded him by on the ship in full view of the city walls. I also have a question like what happened to the Greek fire they used to use with all these ships near their sea wall you'd think spraying them with it would be effective? Why didn't the sea wall have any projectile weapons that they could use to take the ships out while they were in the golden horn? If the citizens are willing to fight the army once it's in the city why aren't they willing to help drop tar, hot oil, coals, even rocks on the heads of the people trying to get in through the sea side wall? I'm a mother with 2 daughters and everybody back then knew what happened when an invading army came into a city and I wouldn't be leaving it to chance if they would be OK or me I would be up on that wall with anything I could use. If you're worried about retribution on the women of the city for helping if they're seeing doing so, some men's hats and cloaks can go a long way. Honestly that's one of my biggest frustrations when listening to these history documentaries, is how the women and children just seem to hide and I'm sure many of them are actually bringing refreshments and food to soldiers on walls, but they could do so much more. Pope's twisting the Bible to not just allow but often encourage so much war, wanton destruction, and general ruin on average people trying to survive in places they have no tangible connection to is a despicable stain that can never be washed out. The Papal City is I feel one of the perfect examples of why I believe the founding fathers of America believed keeping church and state separated was so important. I believe Muhammad and his book and belief in "holy wars" and the death and destruction that has come from it is another. Whenever mankind soothes its conscience by believing that the horrible acts that they commit against other humans is somehow condoned by an entity that will forgive or even reward them things seem to get so much worse. It doesn't even have to be religion be fair, there just has to be a Dogma of some kind like socialism or Marxism involved and everything goes t*ts up.

a coupla comments: 1) the "mud flood" theme is real and powerful. it is briefly mentioned in "Matrix one" and i have always claimed that movie was a gift to us and not a mere artistic story. the mud flood theme asks if our history is distorted. Phillip K. Dick , whose short stories eventually were turned into 5 movie/programs asked " How do we know our memories are real?" Well, that theme is even stronger with "his-story". another theme which questions history is the "Mandela effect." 2) my second comment is praise for the work of this series and it's creators. I avoid youtube in controversial topics because it censors like Facebook, Twitter , Wikipedia etc.. Like the mass-media, it will give you a false view of reality in controversial subjects. having said that, some of the great content creators here on youtube are "price-less" in their efforts and the knowledge they provide. love to all.
Noah’s Flood was a cataclysmic Mud Flood. Think about it, how would the Dinosaurs and creatures become fossilised? Pls watch Dr Kent Hovind seminars and the Standing for Truth channel. The rock layers of the geological column, were formed laterally, simultaneously, not vertically over unknown eons. Proven by Flume water and deposition experiments. The rate of erosion by weathering would destroy the rock layers before they would’ve formed, according to the mainstream Secular Science. Natural Selection, deselected from existence, all the transitional species, between the Chromosome Family Kinds. I rest my case and I hope you enjoy the videos on Standing for Truth. God bless you, bc nothing else will. What is your Salvation?
no no no the advance of the german crusade was stopped by an epidemic of antioch, not the death of the emperor! the prince was a great commander the troops were loyal to him! Frederick of Swabia
Crusade? In the name of God? Hardly. Men must stop killing each other in the name of God, those who do are completely mislead. In fact those who kill life act against the Lord our God. One day I pray all war amongst men cease forever.

hahaha - really happy that you liked my video. You're comment cracked me up. A good friend of mine dared me to start history podcasting when we were in an airport waiting for a layover - he said something similar to what you said.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the history of the crusades, but if you're making the video about the fall of the Constantinople - do one about how it fell (and it's fine with me, that is a longer story, that starts earlier and talks about the "milestones" in the journey to the end, because empires do not fall in one day) , then do a different series about Crusades. Half of the video is about the the 3rd crusade, that had nothing to do with the fall of the Byzantine Empire. Apart from that after 3rd comes 4th - disastrous one. Growing resentment? Yes maybe, but since the west fell, there was always a resentment between east and west. Major part of this video doesn't touch Constantinople at all and in my opinion, it's a major flaw... Maybe I'm sounding harsh but I'm a great fan of your content and just... Keep going!
I, for one, am grateful that this turned into a Crusades documentary. I've never been interested in the Crusades, for some reason. I've always found ancient Rome and Greece to be far more interesting than the Medieval period. The way this transformed subtly into a story about the Crusades has really gotten me hooked on them now!

Welcome!
This so so much better than the Kings and Generals channel, which tells the same events (in much less detail). I'm wondering this has so few views.
Appreciate that ! Views come - just takes time =)
When are you coming out with the rest of the series? I need it brother
@ nice! I’m in sf myself
@@FlashPointHx no way man what a small world. Concord/Pleasant hill over here.
@ I’ve been in your area a couple of times - my family and I love hiking Mt Diablo - it is just awesome.
Happy slumber my friends
Totally artistic flair
Well done!! Thanks
Appreciate it!
I kinda chuckled when you said "when in doubt, blame the byzantines". Was it a humor attempt or my humor taste is just weird? Haha.
Still, great quality content, I never thought I'd enjoy delving deep into the details of what motivated each characters, what did they think at the time, and the consequences of their actions.
my snarkiness comes out from time to time =)
Personally I love that little tweak of humour. It brings more life and realism to the history. It’s easy to forget that the people were actually real people, who also had their own unique humours and characteristics.

I do not understand that part. Wasn't Alexios IV the prince who escaped Constantinapole and brought the Crusaders with him to take the city? If so, why was he in a dungeon at that point?
I'm afraid I might've missed something since I was working and not paying full attention to the podcast.
Very detailed, Byzantine civilization is not well covered in school.
Love this so much. Big fan from Australia 🙏🙏
Hello! I've always wanted to visit your country. Take care!
@@FlashPointHx thanks so much. Please do come visit, you will love it.
1:35:45 pretty much thw fate of all historical armies marching on mecca
Excellent documentary, but what about the period between 1204 and 1453? When can we expect those chapters?
All in good time Ken, the Audience requested I go back to one of my prior series and finish the Reconquista
@@FlashPointHx I subscribed to your channel today, thanks for the quick response.
@@pimpompoom93726 Nice - yeah check out my Reconquista series in the mean time
@@FlashPointHx Will do. You really have some good stuff here. Do you do New World history analysis? I particularly enjoy pre-Colombian history.
@@pimpompoom93726 oh yeah - thats the natural progression of my war of the World Series - once the Reconquista is done we move on to the New World
Alexios the 4th created his own problems as far as I can tell.
Nothing is as unpredictable as life...
Nice movie

a coupla comments: 1) the "mud flood" theme is real and powerful. it is briefly mentioned in "Matrix one" and i have always claimed that movie was a gift to us and not a mere artistic story. the mud flood theme asks if our history is distorted.
Insightful comment - Im curious what you mean by the 'Mud Floor'
Noah’s Flood was a cataclysmic Mud Flood. Think about it, how would the Dinosaurs and creatures become fossilised?
Pls watch Dr Kent Hovind seminars and the Standing for Truth channel.
The rock layers of the geological column, were formed laterally, simultaneously, not vertically over unknown eons. Proven by Flume water and deposition experiments. The rate of erosion by weathering would destroy the rock layers before they would’ve formed, according to the mainstream Secular Science.

I rest my case and I hope you enjoy the videos on Standing for Truth.

P.s. Dr Walter Veith also has a fantastic series called Creation and Evolution.
Times were different back then.
no no no the advance of the german crusade was stopped by an epidemic of antioch, not the death of the emperor! the prince was a great commander the troops were loyal to him! Frederick of Swabia
Glorious

And here is the proof that money governs people, not god, even if they say they fight for god. I wander how many of them are currently burning in hell
Wednesday May 29, 2024. Pray, pray hard, for the re-conquest of Constantinople! Deus le veult!
Do you have a single video on Zengids only?
Afraid not
Crusade? In the name of God? Hardly. Men must stop killing each other in the name of God, those who do are completely mislead. In fact those who kill life act against the Lord our God. One day I pray all war amongst men cease forever.
i fell asleep and woke up 2 hours through this, i was watching emkays r/p*rnhubcomments videos, how tf did i get here???
My man i have never Heard someone be able to tell the story so well all around!! If history teachers would tell a story like you do every kid would luv history. Side note you could probably tell me a story about a pencil and at the end charge me $200 I would be happy to buy it😂keep it up we luv the content
hahaha - really happy that you liked my video. You're comment cracked me up. A good friend of mine dared me to start history podcasting when we were in an airport waiting for a layover - he said something similar to what you said.
I've enjoyed the history but I'm confused I thought the fall occurred in 245? That memed defeated constabu then became Istanbul
Istanbul.
Iced rose water?
Where they get ice from?
They would have to bring ice down from the mountains
@@FlashPointHx ah okay, thank you for the reply. That's very interesting on the logistics of that
The whole thing was one big shame, for the Western World.
