Unsolved Mystery: Can Anyone Fix This Unrepairable PS2?

  • This PS2 is unable to load games, it always goes to the browser. When FreeHDBoot is used, it gets stuck on a black screen.
Using FreeMCBoot is fine, but under OPL and uLE, it cannot detect anything inside the hard disk.
I confirmed that the network adaptor (NA) and the hard disk is good on another PS2 of mine. Later, I also found that the DVD drive is actually good. Whatever working DVD drive we put into this console, it just never load games.
So something must be wrong with the motherboard. I am not sure how to fix it, but can you?
Similar problems I found on the internet

I saw this 100ps2 repair video. Starting from 6:37, it looks like the same issue as your PS2. The guy use a heat gun to heat up a chip and it fixed the problem.

Have you checked every leg of the chip to see if any is loose ? I am also thinking the Mechacon chip on the PS2 ( Game disk security IC) could be stopping your games from booting due to a short or damaged chip. Voltage injection is also a good idea to find shorts on the board. Compare the bad Motherboard with the good one using a thermal camera. That's all I can think about for now. Good luck and update us please !

One thing you can try is to address the shorted pins, take out the caps and any other component on their lines one by one and see if the short goes away. If not, try to lift those pins of the chip from the board and measure again. Hopefully you can narrow down the problem, so the rest of the chip can work again, letting you ps2 boot again your games.

Its pretty strange how most issues I see people having are with the midnight blue ps2. I have one, but its laser died. I was gonna replace it, but i opened it up and found it was the "impossible to find" PVR-702W laser. I had to get a new ps2.
I really wonder if the midnight blue just had a major manufacturing issue?

Maybe a bad installation of the FMCB? or a ModChip doing some stuff? If it not modded then i should go with the firmware or you can try to solder the pins to make good contact again, that's something it happends with a N64 and re-soldering the processor fix sometimes black screen or no vídeo for some reason, i was gonna say DVD but it seems working just fine, another thing is that try to use both CD/DVD on your PS2 (White disc and Blue Disc) bc i encounter a weird problem where my ps2 only reads CD but not DVD and sometimes it does read DVD or try to load the dvd/cd and goes back to the menú memory card for some reason (i guess its a faulty DVD/CD but i doubt about it

Thanks for your comment. I see a few people also mention about the firmware too. But I can't find that much information about PS2 firmware. Do you have more info about it? Like which chip is for the firmware.
And you are right that this console is not modded. And the FMCB should be fine since it works on other console except this one.
