This is even apparent on the Xbox One X. I’m sure there’ll be patches to fix these issues, but it’s worth pointing out. Excellent review btw.
I've loved this genre ever since the first Metroid, but this game is as close to perfection as any of them has ever gotten for me personally. I absolutely love the visuals, the music is breathtaking, combat and platforming is fun with tons of great skills to unlock and while the story in the first Ori was emotional there wasn't a lot of it there. Even that changed now with lots of NPCs to talk to, Quests to complete and more story sequences. I have very high hopes for Silksong given how amazing Hollow Knight was, but after playing Will of the Wisps i'm honestly not sure if it will be able to top that experience for me.
Yes and no. In my opinion Super Metroid stays the best one as the sense of reward when exploring and searching for secrest, as well as the level and map design top Ori 2. However, Ori two is my only other S tier Metroidvania along with SM. Stellar movement set, best in the genre, stunning visual and although problematic at times way more readable than Ori 1. Good battle system and great level design. Quests were not my forte but were a good inclusion as well.
HK has more content than Ori 1 and 2 combined, it has a completely different set of super memorable characters with awesome boss themes that have a completely different style to Ori's. HK's music reminds me of Super Metroid honestly, with the common drums and atmospheric pieces. HK is also a bit less linear and has just as interesting of a speedrun as Super Metroid. The characters in HK are also much more memorable with more distinct personalities. They also just have better side stories to them, like Iselda or Quirrel or Cloth. Both have redeeming qualities and I'm hoping Silksong keeps this. Ori 2 is probably one of my favorite games of all time. Also Zero Mission is the best Metroid, not Super.

I'm not so sure about the switch port. This game has some troubles running on xbox one. It's alot more demanding than the first one, not sure if the switch can handle that.
Sorry, but a game that is freezing the screen on my xbox one for over 5 seconds (and on rare occasions going even pitch black for a while) is not a 9.5. That being said, this is a superb game.
"took a closer look at the competition", i.e. Hollow Knight. That's not a bad thing, imo these are two of the best Metroidvanias of all time. And the original Ori was up there too.
@OrangeLeaf I don't even care tbh. For me this game in on par with Super Mario World, Super Metroid and Castlevania SotN. It's a GOAT tier game, superb in every aspect (other than performance).
The ONLY NEGATIVE thing i could say about Ori ATWOTW is it offers very little in the end game, and combat never gets fleshed out more or be brought to its limits and great potential becaude theres not much enemy types and are less to fight and less in waves And you will lack when it comes to fighting enemies while doing parkour and shit, such miss opportunities. Not much endgame Challenges for Battle Arenas AND Trial parkour areas. The game is sooooo good, and when you finish it up to 100% your going to crave more of it.
Wish they’d add a Level maker as well, imagine players making amazing levels and or challenging ones, it being a Parkour Map an Arena Map or even better BOTH! And whats sad is that the game has no Mods or doesn’t support Mods, and even if there was idk if they are trustworthy and safe.
I can't want to pick it up on a sale but I am disappointment that combat became a more prevalent feature. I personally like combat to take a back seat to precision platforming in any game calling itself a platformer. I know I am very alone in this but a cheap(and there is always one very cheap) boss battle holding back my next platforming level always annoys me.
Microsoft needs to put the pressure off (!), Moon Studios need to work more thoroughly in the future and need to be allowed to take the pressure off themselves, by themselves, and Unity need to listen carefully what the moon has to say. A brilliant game that and a great review. Thanks mate
Waiting for the switch version. I actually thought this was a switch review so that sucks. PC gaming is dead and I dont have XboxDone. I need to play the original on my switch first so this gives me time. You wait too, boo.
@@tyler60904 I'm a year late but Halo CE is definitely not a 10 by today's standards of game design. The best Halo is probably 2, which has aged much better considering that Halo CE had The Library, a very limited amount of weapons, and a whole bunch of repeated rooms.
How does this compare to Hollow Knight? I'm playing through Hollow Knight right now, and while I am digging it, there's just too much backtracking for me.
Imo it's better in every way. The first Ori and HK were more or less equals, with Ori being better in platforming, graphics, music, controls and pac, while HK was better at combat, lore, content, bosses and sidequests. Ori and the Will of the Wisps tho is like the original but literally no weaknesss.
@@alexcla9445 I don't agree with this, Ori did not have "better" platforming than HK. HK's platforming was like Mario but to an extreme. There's no acceleration, there's no momentum, and that's what gives them freedom to design difficult areas. HK's graphics are also better suited to this kind of platforming and even gameplay because there's just more clarity. I also think that HK's music shined more than Ori 1's because the boss themes were actually representative of the character who you were fighting. Many bosses actually had dialogue, they had stories and personalities. Ori can't do that because the only bosses that actually talk to you are Mora (but she's possessed) and Kwolok (he's also possessed.) They're also adding an actual questbook like Ori 2 in Silksong, so I'm excited to see how they'll evolve the HK questlines past just progressing through the game.
I've yet to play HK yet but I can say ori and the blind forest is my favourite 2D platformer of all time and HK will have to be truly special to change my mind. Ori's platforming is outstanding
@@alexcla9445 Ori 1 was absolutely not better than HK, I hated it. I don't think it's a bad game it's just that they're completely incomparable. One's combat focused and one's not. In Ori 1 you press a button to kill things, there's no actual depth. I thought HK's combat was actually too simple for a bit, but the little nuances of being able to pogo off enemies, or being able to refill your dash and jump after hitting enemies... it's just really satisfying. The actual world design wasn't as good in Ori 1, many areas actually blended right in. There were no memorable NPCs in Ori 1, just Naru and Gumo. The world feels so dead.
I loved hollow knight but found the bosses too hard ( 70 attempts at hornet). I hope this lets me see the whole game instead of hollows too tough approach.
I would tolerate 25 attempts but 70! Hornet has 5 attacks and sound hints when she attacks. Not difficult to learn. Only thing that can save you is if you have potato computer or console.
@P.R. tell me why Halloweenknught is better? Because I cant muster the will to try it. I loved Celeste. But Hallonightmare looks bogus. Too combat heavy to be fun and to enjoy platforming. And the platforming doesnt look intricate and the fighting doesn't look fun And the art looks old.
@P.R. do you have the same complaints about Ori being too simple as well? Maybe one day I'll give HelloKite a try or try a demo or something if it has one. Im still sure Ori is more my cup of tea thoughi. I loved Celeste and even got the limited edition physical copy.
@@InnerRise HK is a soulslike metroidvania. If you like those genres you’ll probably like it. It’s not trying to be a pure platformer. The art is good IMO but made by a small indie team so obviously they didn’t have the biggest budget.

I don't think Ori 2 would be better on Switch tho, the game is a powerhouse graphics wise and even more gorgeous in 4K. More options wouldn't hurt anyone tho.
This game is FUCKING AMAZING and it's totally an improvement from the original in almost every way possible!
I'm not in a hurry, should i buy it on pc or just wait for the inevitable switch port?
I'm not so sure about the switch port. This game has some troubles running on xbox one. It's alot more demanding than the first one, not sure if the switch can handle that.
@@dragonhunterx5929 what about some trade-off ? like running in 720p ?
It all depends, how long are you willing to wait... say 2-3 years with the possibility to "never" is ok to you?
Just get Gamepass - PC, only $4.99 a month, first month 99 cent.
Stunning game. Certainly one of the best platformers I've ever played.
Finished the game friday night. It is just Ori 1 but better in pretty much every way.
Sorry, but a game that is freezing the screen on my xbox one for over 5 seconds (and on rare occasions going even pitch black for a while) is not a 9.5.
That being said, this is a superb game.
Damn it, my PC can't run it, and I don't have an xbox one😞
"took a closer look at the competition", i.e. Hollow Knight. That's not a bad thing, imo these are two of the best Metroidvanias of all time. And the original Ori was up there too.
why is their name easy allies?
I think this game deserves a 10 out of 10. I mean, it's just about perfect in every way. Best game I've ever played.
Especially now that the bugs are fixed. Just a perfect game!
Completed it in 15 hours. Why is this game a 9.5? Why not a 10?
@OrangeLeaf it's a 10 in my book. But I played on pc. Heard Xbox version is pretty rough though.
@OrangeLeaf I don't even care tbh. For me this game in on par with Super Mario World, Super Metroid and Castlevania SotN. It's a GOAT tier game, superb in every aspect (other than performance).
I wish there was more games like ori and hollow knight
BEST GAME FOR PC!!! ❤
I'm stocking up essentials for the coronavirus and guess what? Its not toilet paper! 🕹🎮
This game is amazing. Must play for sure
i finished %100 both games and this is not a game this is something else...
Waiting for this to come to other consoles
If you Mean Ps4, you're out of luck.. But it will most likely come to Switch eventually
@@majorkong2828 MS said it won't. Xbox and Windowns PC only.
The ONLY NEGATIVE thing i could say about Ori ATWOTW is it offers very little in the end game, and combat never gets fleshed out more or be brought to its limits and great potential becaude theres not much enemy types and are less to fight and less in waves
And you will lack when it comes to fighting enemies while doing parkour and shit, such miss opportunities.
One of the best games ever made, shame it got squeezed between the cracks in the Game Awards, it undoubtedly deserved best sojndtrack.
Thanks mate
Don't go Kyle. Don't leave us!
I'm a couple hours in and hell yes, I agree with that rating!
GOTY
One of the best gamez i have ever played.
great vid~!
After patches, this game is not in proper technical order.
Great stuff
Seems like a great game but performance on base XBOX One is pretty terrible so I won't be playing it for a while yet.... :-\
Yes
Best game ever easily an 11/10 from me
Must get!
xbox game pass is the best deal in pc gaming by far
It is an amazing game!
please come to Switch. please come to Switch.
Doom Eternal review when?
This is coming to Switch, right? If I haven't played the first should I just play this one and skip the first if it's coming to Switch?
It isnt.
Nobody knows.
There are basically no plans to release it for the Switch at the moment.
I want them to make a Metroid game so bad... ugh
Wait for the switch version 🤔
Abraham M. Same with Bloodstained
Waiting for the switch version.
I actually thought this was a switch review so that sucks.
PC gaming is dead and I dont have XboxDone.
I need to play the original on my switch first so this gives me time.
You wait too, boo.
@@dreamerabe is there any graphical difference for the first game?
@@InnerRise pc gaming is dead lul
as i watched this and heard how the game was described i was thinking to myself, this might be xbox's first 10
Well maybe on xbox one, but definitely not the brand as halo CE took that.
@@tyler60904 I'm a year late but Halo CE is definitely not a 10 by today's standards of game design. The best Halo is probably 2, which has aged much better considering that Halo CE had The Library, a very limited amount of weapons, and a whole bunch of repeated rooms.
@@gu3z185 well that would apply to all games as time goes on, and can be debated. I was just pointing out that xbox had other games rated at 10.
@@tyler60904 I get what you're saying, I just jumped the gun since I had just finished Halo 2 Anniversary and wanted to argue about something.
Game is 9/10 those mosquitos are bullshit hahaha jk 10/10 will play again
Unsubsucribed that was 10/10 game ^^
Goty not even close right now.
Hopefully this comes to switch!
Xbox Game Studios head has said that they have no interest in bringing any more of their games to other consoles but never say never
How does this compare to Hollow Knight? I'm playing through Hollow Knight right now, and while I am digging it, there's just too much backtracking for me.
Imo it's better in every way. The first Ori and HK were more or less equals, with Ori being better in platforming, graphics, music, controls and pac, while HK was better at combat, lore, content, bosses and sidequests. Ori and the Will of the Wisps tho is like the original but literally no weaknesss.
It is better. On par with Super Metroid in my opinion.
Ori can't do that because the only bosses that actually talk to you are Mora (but she's possessed) and Kwolok (he's also possessed.)
They're also adding an actual questbook like Ori 2 in Silksong, so I'm excited to see how they'll evolve the HK questlines past just progressing through the game.
Sorry Hollow Knight...You've been dethroned.
Gamertag: BloodOath77
Silksong to Ori 2: Hold my metroidvania
I've yet to play HK yet but I can say ori and the blind forest is my favourite 2D platformer of all time and HK will have to be truly special to change my mind. Ori's platforming is outstanding
@P.R. Ori 1 was better than HK. Ori 2 is leagues better than both.
Only thing that can save you is if you have potato computer or console.
nioh 2 review? T_T
Great game... if you like squinting.
Because i cant see shit.
Really liking it so far but I don't think its better than Hollow Knight.
@P.R. tell me why Halloweenknught is better?
Because I cant muster the will to try it.
I loved Celeste.
But Hallonightmare looks bogus. Too combat heavy to be fun and to enjoy platforming. And the platforming doesnt look intricate and the fighting doesn't look fun
And the art looks old.
I think it is better than Hollow Knight, Ori 2 just shows me how simplistic and bland HK's combat is.
@P.R. do you have the same complaints about Ori being too simple as well?
Maybe one day I'll give HelloKite a try or try a demo or something if it has one.
Im still sure Ori is more my cup of tea thoughi. I loved Celeste and even got the limited edition physical copy.
@@InnerRise HK is a soulslike metroidvania. If you like those genres you’ll probably like it. It’s not trying to be a pure platformer. The art is good IMO but made by a small indie team so obviously they didn’t have the biggest budget.
Microsoft 1st party games will own next gen. Sony will be a same old been there done that. Calling it now. Xcloud is the future. Not TLOU6.
I’ll wait for the Switch. I don’t want to support Microsoft.
