That bit about paying close attention to vandalised path items followed immediately with the spiral slide having an incorrectly broken lamp post was a little bit funny!
Ha, I didn't even notice that. I focused too hard to getting the guests on the slide to line up and didn't pay much attention to the surroundings. The space rings being a fully custom design means I paid way more attention to the details as well.
I imagine Marcel recording footage for this series is like:
*examines icon*
*checks Megaworld Park*
*checks Alton Towers*
"DAMN IT"
this video is iconic
This comment is ironic
16:47 the ride is actually reversed. in your recreation the guests look to the right and in the original they look to the left.
anyways, good video as always :)
You really have good eyes.
Hey Marcel! Have you considered trying to reach out to Chris Sawyer to do an interview? I know this channel would have some amazing questions for him and it would be awesome to hear what he thinks about the legacy of his game 20 odd years later.
It'd be hard. People have tried before and Chris is very hard to contact, likely intentionally. He doesn't seem to like being in the public eye.
I’ve seen him make a couple TV appearances. He must not be impossible to talk to.
100% on this. Five questions for Chris Sawyer with Marcel Vos would be incredible.
JNattyBoi managed to get an answer outta him, just relayed through one of his associates via business email.
He's been interviewed by Atari a few times, so it might be worth contacting Atari.
i can't imagine how hard it was to find all these, especially since you had to remove some rides to see them.
I get the feeling you had a blast looking for all of these.. It's like a theme-park style "where's waldo", and you get show off your hard work as content, what a win-win!
Imagine a friendly competition where 2-4 people make a theme park, and take ride-profile type screenshots, and then the other players have to figure out where those screenshots from that park came from. It might not be a real brain boggler (unless you make it to be), but still a fun idea regardless, if you collab'd with a few enthusiasts.
If you know in which park they are it's not very difficult to find them. If you had a bunch of parks and you even removed some of the rides (like the double deck observation tower), then it would become very interesting.
The River Rafts ride has the boat going the wrong direction. It’s insane how many details there are in these after you pointed them out, and more insane how accurate your recreations are
Mega World Park is just an icon (generator) at this point. Awesome finds again, Marcel!
What an effort! Your passion for RCT is on another level. Thanks again for another interesting video.
Sending Oblivion into Oblivion to make the icon is quite thematically appropriate.
11:56 You needed to build the motion simulator 1 block to the left. The path in the upper right of the icon is turning away from the ride, and the path in the recreation is still going straight at that point. Plus, the slope in the upper left is too far away from the ride in the recreation
I'm glad this got noticed right away.
Boy, I really hope someone got fired for that blunder!
dang lol i noticed that too
It is great seeing the icons magnified for the first time.
Motion Simulator has a different hill slope in the top left.
I see I wasn't the only one who noticed, though it's the right place, the motion simulator only need be moved up left one tile (can confirm with the hill on the bottom right, which doesn't show under the supports in the og but does in Marcel's)
Maybe some day, if he still has it, Chris will release a bunch of his old save files where the custom icons were sourced from. Unlikely, but one can dream haha
6:20 Just a casual floating path with a bunch of trapped guests. Classic Marcel I guess.
Thank you for the great video! 8:26 Forgive my nitpicking but just noticing that the right end of the track is slightly bent.
Good catch, very hard to see!
I really should be studying for finals but when Marcel uploads I gotta stop what I'm doing and watch!

18:10 can't believe you missed the opportunity for a titanic and submarine joke!
The Double Decker at 8:56 was a really impressive find! Great work on all of these!
these two videos so far are some of the best! the effort and the research and its so fun to think about the devs editing parks and what they were like before launch, with evidence - in a way. looking forwards to more and megaowlrdpark is op
17:39 You might be able to get the railing to appear in RCT 1 if you drop down the opposite corner of the terrain that you can't see very well so that the path isn't technically on the ground, but IIRC that'd also give you a full squares worth of wooden overlay on the grass.
There is also a fence on the other side, proving that the land is directly under the path.
Maybe the path changed during development.
@@MarcelVosIn (Open)RCT2, it depends on the path type too. Older RCT1 tarmac-style paths get neither stairs nor railings (I used exclusively brown tarmac in a playthrough of Arid Heights, so I can verify this).
-4:12 you had me 💀 never heard your curse before and love it. You are human
I guess it's harder to do this for RCT2 than it is for RCT1 - since you have to first figure out which game the picture was even taken it. The trivia about the differences between the two games is interesting though.
I think we have finally discovered your weakness: Extreme detail.
Congratulations on the detective work! How would you feel about creating a “lost” scenario, featuring every ride icon which wasn’t in another existing scenario and imagining they all came from the same park?
Gigaworld Park?
Kinda like Geoguessr in rct, they must've taken a lot of time to research 😂
These kind of videos are so entertaining...The fact you spent so much time doing them is fantastic. Thanks Marcel. Even though you did some on a stream once I can't wait for the stalls video.
Laughed out loud with the recreation of the water rides 😂
It’s awesome now you go so in-depth in every single aspect and mechanic of RCT2. It makes me wish there was a Parkitect RUclipsr equivalent. 😊
Megaworld Park carries the ride icons
Insanity, so cool and impressive you can match everything so well!
I love Roller Coaster tycoon and this channel
The sequel we all wanted. Awesome video, Marcel!
Man I can't believe how many entertaining videos you keep coming out with based around 1 20 year old game
You’re a boss Marcel. Can’t believe you figured all of these out.
Round 2! You're an RCT legend :D
The space rings having a vandalized bench next to it is on brand since those things are the world's cheapest vomit factory 😂
Would be cool to see one of these done for the RCT1 icons, though I imagine there'd be a lot of recreations since they didn't have a prior game to work off of. I also know the drinks stall icon in RCT1 has a brick wall pattern in the background that isn't available in the final game.
really creative content again! awesome
18:07 - A submarine used for leisure, with space for 5 people is the foreshadowing of the century!
Custom scenario/challenge where you can only use the rides whose thumbnails are not found in existing parks, and must recreate all of their thumbnail images in a certain strict timeframe to win
Bonus points for making the whole park look good and not just a flat plane with a few small pretty spots
I remember when I saw the rides that match the icon I thought it was a fun easter egg. But its nice to know not all were created as a pre built in the game.
8:25 I think the track curves towards the top of the screenshot on the very edge (right side)
I love marcels videos!
Thanks for the numbers
Great job !
12:00 Not everything matches. There's a sloped bit in the top left corner missing in the recreation.
You're right! I built it one unit too far to the right.
The screenshots couldn't had been taken in RCT 1 because it lacked ground smoothing (if I recall correctly). So Chris Saywer must have changed how the tall grass is spawned during development, after the screenshot were taken.
13:58
EYYYYYYYYYYYYY it's my FAVOURITE Marcel Park - Trinity PRIDElands!
Man, the developers really loved black pool pleasure beach and megaworld for taking pictures lol
Another detail which could show if the picture was shot in RCT1 or RCT2 is the transitions between slopes: in RCT2 they are gradual, but in RCT1 sharp (and that was a reason I preferred to play with grid in RCT1)
A good april fool's video would be NES Where's Waldo.
"Speaking of underwater terrain, it's a complete bitch to recreate"
I legit spit my dinner out laughing at this.
Next Up - Stalls! Can't wait!
Happy Birthday Lake!
How about doing a video on the locations of the intro sequences (all separate ones since there’s multiple versions depending in which expansion pack is installed)
This is the RCT equivalent to people trying to find the seeds from Minecraft pictures
It's mad hearing you speak about Blackpool and Alton Towers. Places I went to on several summer holidays
I came for the RCT tips, but I stayed for the digital forensics.
good job~
This man could play geoguesser in rollercaster tycoon
The fucking way you keep noticing the vague resembles to terrain from a spesific scenario shows how much its engraved into your brain who the hell else could remember that to where they notice it from a little sliver in a zoomed in icon
LETS FUCKING GO! way more hype then i should be for these rides but meh, new video!
@4:25
Do you know why this change was made?
It seems like the supports look so much better in rct1, at least for this ride. It’s much more realistic to have multiple supports. Kinda looks funny only having one thin support in the rct2 version.
I wonder if there’s a way to get openRCT2 to do this?
I recall from your previous video that supports are drawn on every other tile in a checkerboard pattern. Maybe there’s a way to change that pattern in the code?
It's already hard to know which supports are "real" and which can be built under with 2's way of displaying supports, and it was even worse in 1. I suspect that's part of it.
What about OSHA violations in RCT? Do any sprites break the rules? Or any pre-built designs/scenarios?
17:18 The path you're talking about with River Rapids, it's literally right beneath the stair section. The stairs only appear if the ground beneath is not following the path.
But the ground is following the path in the icon. You're right that the assets do exist, but I still can't recreate the icon without custom assets.
The part where you talk about the racing cars car ride (4:15) I agree with the rct1 support layout, but did rct1 have transparent water? In the icon with the correct support locations for the ride in the background, the supports for the car ride disappear into the water. It comes up again for the dingy slide where the supports match rct1, but the water is transparent.
Hope to see shops and stalls someday :)
Its clear that many icons probably got taken during dev builds of the game where graphics assets, behaviors or other things are different.
Do you think megaworld park and alton towers were like the first two parks that were developed for the game if they used them for the majority of the ride icons? Especially since the hints of beta/prerelease builds being used (the grass patterns, the path without stairs, yet has railings and the amount of supports)
I think someone mentioned in the comments of the other video that Megaworld Park was basically THE development testing park.
Not sure what the story is of Alton Towers, but rct.wiki says that there was an early version of it available for download on the official RCT website.
I guess you'd win every Geo Guesser RCT game.
Drinking game; Take a shot every time Marcel says 'Mega World Park'.
No thanks, I choose life 😂
12:02
No offense but I think you missed the top left corner of the icon, other than that it's crazy that you're able to find all the icons. Kudos to that!
You have the motion simulator slightly incorrectly placed, as it should be one tile up (NW), this is clear because the hill in the top right isn't shown when it is in the og and the hill under the bottom right support is not there in the og image.
6:19 haHAhuh SuperVinlin
Even the ride icons hated the space rings and wanted to destroy it.
I wonder what are the actual sound samples that were used in making the guest's scream, laugh and the noise of crowd
Thenke u marcello for dis scrumpdity dumpty content
Some of these content ideas make me wonder if the creator is weird for thinking of them or if people like me are weird for enjoying them.
It just feels strange for a video about recreating icons from a 20yo game would be so popular yet it just scratches a certain itch my brain has
Marcel plays Geoguessr.
Slays. Isn't challenged
Marcel plays Geoguessr in Rollercoaster Tycoon.
These are actual detective skills mate.
With 17:30 I think from RCT1 Alton Towers I think the best way to recreate the path with the railings is simply adjust the terrain just a tiny bit to get the railings to appear. I could be wrong on this thought process
There's a fence on the other side, making that impossible.
@@MarcelVosBut the fence could be on the neighboring tile (not on the tile with path)?
Mooi
9:40 Of course it’s vandalized. It’s the space rings. The paths are probably disgusting.
16:48 here the boats go in the other way, which cou can see when looking at the guests. I think you have missed this because the terrain was so annoying to fit :)
Why do i like these video's?
About the park you are talking about at 17:55 you can try to make a lookalike & try to upload it.
don't think I didn't spot your car ride name :P
You should make a video on all the differences between rct 1 and 2
I wonder how effectively (and densely) you could incorporate all the icon recreations into one park, without just going to Megaworld Park!
Here we go again, We looking at the ride icons of RCT2 folks
oh damn, im early
I assumed the pictures were just taken as needed during production and things changed as the game developed.
5 pixels of a lilly pad
you mad man
How do you get Megaworldpark? In open RTC2 I only have the 'empty' park, without all the rides
Do stalls next!
A lot more pre-release elements than last one.
I have a question, the picture for the pirate ship was from southern sand, the pirate ship was released with RCT1 the szenario southern sand is from loopy landscapes the second addon. I can imagine, that Chis Sawyer had his private collection of his favourite Parks, as Blackpool, Alton Towers, or Mega Park which existet, but wouldn`t released with RCT. But why should he keep southern sands private, there is nothig special about it. Some of the rollercoasters are from loopy landscapes as well, so the szenario couldn´t have existed to the release of RCT1. If you have any idea please tell me.
16:46 i think your ride goes in the wrong direction it need to go backwarts
