Also, you can easily make the launched freefall and roto-drop indoor by placing a single scenery item on top of the tower (except for the beheaded roto-drop).
@edntz Yes. You have to place it before testing. You can remove it after the stats come out as long as you don't reset the stats by changing the launch speed or doing construction.
I've been on Twists/Scramblers IRL. There's nothing boring about riding them, which makes it all the more confusing as to why its stats are so low. As someone who charges for both park and ride fees in RCT1 flat rides in general end up charging 1 to 1.5 dollars until after after 6 months, in which case I just replace them and keep charging.
I do like how the stats increase depending on which movie is showing. I just wish the 3D cinema commanded a higher price. Same and even more so with the circus.
The worst thing about the 3D cinema is how quickly the default price becomes too expensive for guests. It's like the Circus and Crooked House (at least the Crooked House never breaks)
Actually that's bad for the Crooked House, it means that the Reliability never goes down. This means that in OpenRCT2 where you can refurbish rides when the Reliability drops below 100%, you can't do that with the Crooked House. Meaning that in order to get value from it you have to delete it and build a new one, the only other ride type that has this issue is the Maze.
I personally love the Go-karts! I tend to play more on "creative" mode, so I don't worry about money - just stats and looks. And you can get some pretty good stats, with low intensity and nausea but high excitement if you are creative on your design. The 3D cinema is also a nice ride to have for rainy days where guests want to avoid open rides.
I always loved the 3D cinema because RCT’s biggest weakness is lack of shows, which any proper theme park should have. It’s basically the only way to simulate a show for practical effect and not feel like you’re building an empty building for no reason.
Huh, all this made me realise is that food stalls don't make nearly enough money. Though admittedly I don't know their running cost in-game, in real life the profit margin on food especially in an amusement park is crazy high, those things basically print money to an extent.
"I walked in with $200. How can I be out of money?! I spent $100 on entry, and... oh, right - $25 for a hot dog, another $25 for a can of soda, and $50 for this stupid T-shirt."
Those stupid dole pineapple whips at Disneyland are fucking good but theyre hollow on the inside so they look bigger than they are to guests who see other guests walking by and enjoying them. Its like 1 ice cream cones worth of frozen treat and when i went in 2011 it cost 8 bucks
Running costs for food stalls basically consist of the cost of the food, and the percentage markup is pretty high. A slice of pizza costs $0.60 to make, and sells for $2.10 in most conditions, for a 250% markup. (In cold weather, the pizza sells for $2.50--a 333% markup--but I wouldn't recommend counting on this unless you're willing to micromanage to that degree, or you have the Price Manager plugin for OpenRCT2.)
@@roddydykes7053No, the original UK version was always called Twist. The US release had the Twist as Scrambled Eggs (aka Frasier: The Ride) and the Launched Freefall as WOAH Belly! for some reason.
@@roddydykes7053 It's actually called "Scrambled Eggs" in the US version and "Twist" in the UK version. Another difference I remember for the thrill rides specifically is Swinging Ship vs Pirate Ship.
Regarding the motion simulator, something you didn't mention is that the entrance location matters for throughput. The stairs to the cabin are at the back right, so if you place the entrance there, guests don't have to walk as far. It also helps to put the entrance on the middle tile at the front of the top spin and flat rides with the door on one side of the ride. Otherwise, guests need to walk around the seats/building to get to the front. I was able to get about 1100 guests/year with the top spin intense mode, an improvement on the 962 that you got. This may affect which mode is best because loading times matter more when the ride is shorter. For all other flat rides, it still helps to put the entrance on the middle tile of a side because it minimizes the average distance walked to guest's target seat, especially since can't walk diagonally and must zig-zag.
I really want to see you do a tier list of gentle rides. I know they're kinda purposely bad, but I would love to see what's the worst and the best of the most mediocre selection.
Mr Marcel. I can't beleive that you are still making these videos after all these years man. Please continue to do so. New people like me are still finding this game believe it or not. This is one of the best games to buy on Android and ios.
It's such a missed opportunity that Chris Sawyer never added a swing ride to RCT. (Yes I know there's one in RCT3 but that's not exactly Chris Sawyer's game now is it?)
The Go Karts are God-tier for me. The reason being that in my experience, guests ALWAYS want to ride the Go Karts. It's a money maker that keeps on making. Compare that to the Launched FF, guests in my parks eventually get bored of it with enough rides to choose from. [Also, here's a fun tip for the Go Karts. If you enable the cheat that allows you to build track pieces from different coaster types, you can make your guests zip and teleport to the end of the track, both looking ridiculous and shortening the ride time.]
But for real, some stats should be readjusted, swinging ships deserve medium intensity and even more naussea, twist should be in low medium intensity, some fairground variants are wild.
Freefalls and Roto-Drops are super useful in parks with extreme-loving guests from what I found since they're so cheap to make while still reaching their preferences.
Disagree about the Twist. While it isn't great stats wise, I find it actually fits in quite well in more industrial themed parks as it looks kinda like a piece of construction equipment.
Things i wish when roller coaster tycoon first came out as most of the flat rides were made before 1999! I wish the chairswings, intamin free fall tower like drop zone (Californias Great America) zipper, double inverter ship, and for rct2 the double deck carousel along with the double decker carousel as the double deck carousel was only in time twister!
Wow just came across this channel. I loved playing RCT1 as a kid, and played occasionally throughout the years. This man takes this game to a whole new level and to a science, I am amazed. Great work by the uploader!
I recently compared the stats among 3D Cinema films. I didn't guess they were different lengths! Although, re-watching that segment, the profit differences are so insignificant you might as well choose the E.I.N. stats you want. In that case, it's Storm Chasers for me (lowest nausea, closest to 3 intensity).
I've said it many times in the comments, but I absolutely hate the Twist. By the way it performs, it doesn't even deserve to be called a "Thrill Ride"; it's a Gentle Ride in all but name. And I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but for the over 20 years I've been playing RCT, not ONCE have I seen a Twist turn a profit; more often than not I never see guests ride it at all, even when I leave it at the default price. I've had 3D Cinemas that were vastly more popular and profitable than the Twist. The only reason I ever build it is when it's the only Thrill Ride available at the start of a scenario.
00:08 talking about vomit machines: I didn't play in a while but I used to put a bunch of benches near the exit of nauseating rides because I noticed that nauseous guests liked to sit down for a while. I don't really see you do that a lot in your parks, so I was wondering if it helps them at all. Surely if they were less likely to puke if they can sit on a bench you would place a few benches to help keep the park clean? Or (in case benches do help) ist it better to just let them puke and continue walking so they move around the park and get on the next ride quicker?
Nausea is programed to go down over time, or completely if they vomit. So having a bench dose not make it go down faster. However when they are sitting they can't throw up so it keeps the paths cleaner. Problem is while they can't throw up while sitting, they also can't buy anything. So its kind of a trade off, if you have enough staff to clean the vomit up. Guest won't be unhappy about it, and once they throw up, they are at zero nausea again. Which means they can buy/ride again. I found that in parks that are small or just starting, it was better to have benches due to low staff/park ratings. While massive parks with plenty of staff and high overhead costs meant I wanted them to vomit and get back to paying me quickly.
@@animestein Another problem is that sick guests (not very sick guests) won't sit down and are free to vomit. Fun fact: vomiting increases a guest's hunger, so letting them vomit is good for stall profits.
Behold the glory of corporate capitalism! Now with less random drownings! Personally I always tried to isolate my high nausea rides to a specific section of my parks. Then i just have all the rides exit onto a single path, with janitors permanently assigned there. They keep the path clean and tidy and since the guest on that path are too sick to care. I never get a complaint about it, plus the endless parade of green faced peeps was amusing!
I honestly would've thought several others were definitely worse than the 3D Cinema. Is there a video like this of the gentle rides, I'd love to know more about that.
2:11 Okay this has nothing to do with the topic....but look at the shadows being cast on the frame by the spokes of the wheel. I know it's prerendered but nobody would have noticed them being missing, yet the detail is there.
I like to surround thrill rides with scenery like a show-building or sometimes burying them in landforms. Especially when they don't have the right visual appeal for the theme park.
So this means its time for a gentle ride tier list, right? Also im pretty sure vintage cars and regular cars give different stat results, so despite being so similar theyre worth separating.
Irl for many years I didn't go on the "top spin" ride because it looked so intense, but when I finally dared it became my favorite and I regretted not trying it sooner.
The twist might be a terrible RCT ride, but the Scrambler(as I knew it growing up)was one of my favorite rides to go on when the carnival would come to town. Also RCT needs a TRUE Gravitron ride!
"Come on Barbie let's go party" Seems like it should have been on 3D cinema. At least anyone watching the video in the future will know when this was released.
For scenarios with pay per entry parks, what criteria would you use to determine the best? Soft guest cap and size? Capacity in more crowded parks? Anything I'm missing? Throughput only matters for pay per rode right since it increases profit? Is there something I'm missing?
I put one together using the profitability of the various stalls, as well as whether they provided something for the guests that was important to satisfying the needs of the guests, or for the profitability of the park. Low-profit food and drink stalls got penalties because they tend to cannibalize from higher-profit food and drink stalls. I use a price manager plugin to set ride and stall prices, so I take the average of the profitability of various items between cold, hot, and moderate weather, though with umbrellas I assume they are being sold at $20 or the equivalent. The results I came up with: *S Tier* consisted of high-utility stalls that provided unique services such as the Cash Machine, Information Kiosk, and Restroom. The Souvenir Stall also made it in because of its ability to sell umbrellas. *A Tier* consisted of the Hat, T-Shirt, and Soft Toy Stalls, as well as top-tier food (Pizza, Chicken, Burger) and drink (Coffee, Hot Chocolate) stalls. *B Tier* consisted of the Balloon and Sunglasses stalls, with high-tier food (Sub Sandwich, Hot Dog, Fries) and drink (Drinks, Iced Tea, Lemonade, Fruit Juice) stalls. *C Tier* consisted of the First Aid Room, as well as a number of mediocre food and drink stalls. Any food/drink type that I do not mention in other tiers should be assumed to go here. (While the Art Deco food stall sells B-tier lemonade, it also sells C-tier beef noodles, which drags it down to this tier. In most situations, your park will have room to place separate food and drink stalls, so the space savings isn't really worth it.) *D Tier* consisted of a number of poor-profitability (Meatball Soup, Wonton Soup, Tentacle, Funnel Cake, Popcorn, Ice Cream) food stalls. *F Tier* consisted of the Pretzel Stall, the Candy Apple (Toffee Apple) Stall, Cotton Candy (Candyfloss) Stall, the Donut Shop, and the Cookie Shop. The five worst food stalls in the game. I would ignore any stall below B tier unless you have no better choice for the situation, with the possible exception of the First Aid Room. First Aid Room should be used sparingly if at all, and only near high-nausea rides. (As for why the First Aid Room is so high on the list, the cannibalism caused by low-tier food and drink stalls resulted in _massive_ penalties; those stalls in D and F tiers actually have _negative_ scores.) If you want an idea of the order of the stalls within a tier and category, I list them in order from the best to the least good, so Drink stalls are better than Fruit Juice, for example, even though they're both in the same tier.
I'm surprised there was no mention of Go Karts' continuous circuit mode. I always build a fairly long continuous circuit track for that huge excitement rating, but I've never measured its throughput or explicitly compared profit.
I personally have a very low nausea tolerance. 3D movies can give me motion sickness. I can't play Roblox or watch my kids play Roblox. I'd like to get back into play RCT though. It was one of the few games I could enjoy. Went to Universal Studios with my family and I couldn't go on any rides. They were all too extreme for me. 😑🤣
They're all terrible except for the mini golf which is VERY terrible. The car ride/Cheshire cats, and the observation tower can be pretty decent though, imo.
I always thought the bumper cars was more of a thrill ride than the cinema. Seems like the water ride should've been included since they are considered a thrill ride in the planning process.
I'd put the Twist below the 3D Cinema for the sole reason that the latter counts as an indoor ride, giving it an advantage in the rain. It's why it as well as the Motion Simulator are my ideal thrill rides to use in a park. The Twist has none of these redeeming qualities.
I mainly play Parkitect these days, but I sometimes pick up RCT2 for the nostalgia. And I must say, the flat ride selection is one of the things I miss the most when playing RCT2. Limited animation gave RCT2 very few rides to work with, but Parkitect has a ton of different flats, and even more so with mods. I wonder if Marcel will ever make a video about that game, if only to show how it compares to RCT2. In the comparison, I'd say RCT2 has a few clear advantages too, particularly in the scaling of guests compared to other objects in the park, in sound design, and in UI. But if you like RCT2, Parkitect is definitely worth trying, as it runs laps around its predecessor in many respects too.
Probably has been asked before but do you ever plan on doing anything regarding RCT3? Main reason I ask is because that’s the one I grew up on, I’ve never actually played RCT1 or 2 but I love your content anyway

What a thrilling video :)
I thought that it was 'meh'
@three-quartersbadger2929 then just don't watch his videos. It's that simple. You really didn't need to comment that.
protip: if you call the "twist" the "scrambler", it goes up one tier automatically
I always call my first one twister, very innovative I know
That’s what it’s called in the British version right? I remember my original Xbox version having slightly different names for a few things
@@gtpliquid1290HEHSHAHEHDH I thought you were just being really funny but that's actually true wth
I used to spam the swinging inverter ship in my parks when I was young and thought it was the "swinging invader ship" lol
I love your channel. You take so much care and go into detail for such an old but great game.
It's beautiful to see people still love and play old gems like roller coaster tycoon , this game used to be my whole childhood.....
The 3D cinema might be bad, but it looks cool
Sometimes I build them just for looks and keep them closed lol
It's such a missed opportunity that Chris Sawyer never added a swing ride to RCT.
(Yes I know there's one in RCT3 but that's not exactly Chris Sawyer's game now is it?)
Probably it is harder to animate as it doesn't always look the same.
Shame about the twist, I love riding them in real life. Sandstorm in Florida's Busch Gardens, how I miss you.
I charge $5 to ride the go karts. The less that can ride at a single time the more I charge
I wish the chairswings, intamin free fall tower like drop zone (Californias Great America) zipper, double inverter ship, and for rct2 the double deck carousel along with the double decker carousel as the double deck carousel was only in time twister!
yay new video!! can’t wait
There's a custom flatride reskin for the Chairswing and the Double Inverter Ship (among many others) if you lookup "Amazing Earl RCT2" 👍😇
Wow just came across this channel. I loved playing RCT1 as a kid, and played occasionally throughout the years. This man takes this game to a whole new level and to a science, I am amazed. Great work by the uploader!
Marcel Vos the Boss!
1:07 as the cable car casually smashes clean through the roof of the 3D Cinema...
And it's hilarious because the twist is one of my favourite theme park rides to go on in real life... 😆
You can use the 3D cinema building as an Epcot on a budget
What about a gentle rides tier list? Bumper Cars are always my favorite.
Was not expecting to see a cock and balls made up of two 3D Cinemas and a Roto Drop today. 🤣
The cheeky ride names trying to sneak their way through the commentary
I honestly would've thought several others were definitely worse than the 3D Cinema. Is there a video like this of the gentle rides, I'd love to know more about that.
I always wondered where Marcel even got the name Scrambled Eggs for the Twist.
It's the default name for the Twist in the US version of RCT1.
@@Simbreon I know that, I meant in real life because I've never seen one called Scrambled Eggs
@@fastbreak333 Oh, my b. I've seen them called the "Scrambler", but yeah I haven't heard that either
I’ve been waiting 20 years for someone to upload this to RUclips
1:56 Is why I watch Marcel, because every video is complete with everything!! thanks for the vids!!
1:56 For RCE, that instantly makes it tier A
Also, thats a really strong ride you have there
So this means its time for a gentle ride tier list, right? Also im pretty sure vintage cars and regular cars give different stat results, so despite being so similar theyre worth separating.
I'm on board with that.
I will never stop wondering why the 3d cinema is a thrill ride. A cinema is not something I would call thrilling in the here used sense
You should do a tier list of all the Scrambler reskins...
Proper chuckled at "if you need a big *BALL* for whatever reason"...
I like the twist. It's not great as of actual stats or anything, but I like how it looks, and it's a decent mediocre ride that everyone will ride.
Launched freefall superiority 🗿
I appreciate the depth and breadth of the criteria.
I can't wait for the gentle ride version of this video!
i died when i saw cinema balls with brown paiting lol
I didn’t know I needed this until now
i dont know why i "waste" my time here but i love to watch this stuff ^^ nice videos
Irl for many years I didn't go on the "top spin" ride because it looked so intense, but when I finally dared it became my favorite and I regretted not trying it sooner.
>turns the launched freefall into the Strongest Shape via two 3d cinemas
>says the optimal launch speed is 111kph... or 69mph
😏
Thank God you exist! I always wanted to know this!
I know this is about efficiency, but looking at it also from the perspective of building a nice looking and cool park: Go-karts is the S tier.
Nostalgia said "Man, I wanna play RC2 again"
The New Yorker inside me: "Oh geez, how long are people waiting in line? I feel awful for them."
You're the best Marcel. Thanks for the vid!
The main benefit of the 3D Cinema is that it's indoors and people will ride it when it rains.
Now we need a tierlist of every possible RCT2 park
In my 20+ years of playing, I never knew the 3D Cinema actually played different movies!
The twist might be a terrible RCT ride, but the Scrambler(as I knew it growing up)was one of my favorite rides to go on when the carnival would come to town. Also RCT needs a TRUE Gravitron ride!
That "big ball" had me dead 💀
Dergon
"Come on Barbie let's go party"
Seems like it should have been on 3D cinema. At least anyone watching the video in the future will know when this was released.
They would already know - the upload date is in the description.
@@DitzyNizzy2009 I'm making a joke. I'm familiar with the works of RUclips and Pablo Neruda.
I like the 3D ball cinema. In Phantasialand in Germany is da similar version, but with a coaster in it. Its really iconic.
I wonder if my child self ever knew that 16 years later, I would stumble upon fucking RCT2 tierlists lmao
I'm getting back into the game this week and it's validating to see someone validate my hatred of the 3D Cinema
I recently got back into this game after 20 years. I cannot thank you enough for this content. ❤
For scenarios with pay per entry parks, what criteria would you use to determine the best? Soft guest cap and size? Capacity in more crowded parks? Anything I'm missing? Throughput only matters for pay per rode right since it increases profit? Is there something I'm missing?
Marcel: 3d cinema is the worse thrill ride. Me with 3 3d cinemas in my park: i just think they're neat
Would be interested in seeing how a shops and stalls tierlist might work
I put one together using the profitability of the various stalls, as well as whether they provided something for the guests that was important to satisfying the needs of the guests, or for the profitability of the park.
The results I came up with:
*S Tier* consisted of high-utility stalls that provided unique services such as the Cash Machine, Information Kiosk, and Restroom.
In most situations, your park will have room to place separate food and drink stalls, so the space savings isn't really worth it.)
*D Tier* consisted of a number of poor-profitability (Meatball Soup, Wonton Soup, Tentacle, Funnel Cake, Popcorn, Ice Cream) food stalls.
@@MarsJenkar Interesting! Thanks for the breakdown
I'm surprised there was no mention of Go Karts' continuous circuit mode. I always build a fairly long continuous circuit track for that huge excitement rating, but I've never measured its throughput or explicitly compared profit.
This makes me wanna go back and play stuff like the sims 1 and this and nothing else
1:55 I like what you did there XD
I’ve never understood why the 3D cinema is “thrill” and not “gentle”
I personally have a very low nausea tolerance. 3D movies can give me motion sickness. I can't play Roblox or watch my kids play Roblox. I'd like to get back into play RCT though. It was one of the few games I could enjoy. Went to Universal Studios with my family and I couldn't go on any rides. They were all too extreme for me. 😑🤣
What about the tier list of gentle rides in RCT2?
They're all terrible except for the mini golf which is VERY terrible. The car ride/Cheshire cats, and the observation tower can be pretty decent though, imo.
I always thought the bumper cars was more of a thrill ride than the cinema.
Seems like the water ride should've been included since they are considered a thrill ride in the planning process.
This was great! Is there a chance you'll do a similar video for rct3?
I'd put the Twist below the 3D Cinema for the sole reason that the latter counts as an indoor ride, giving it an advantage in the rain. It's why it as well as the Motion Simulator are my ideal thrill rides to use in a park. The Twist has none of these redeeming qualities.
you're my favourite RCT2 player
Now for a Gentle Ride, Water Ride, Stalls and Transport Rides tier list.
Motion simulator gang
Only Marcel could get away with making a peepee joke in an RCT2 analysis video
0:51 Look ma! I'm on TV!
Probably has been asked before but do you ever plan on doing anything regarding RCT3? Main reason I ask is because that’s the one I grew up on, I’ve never actually played RCT1 or 2 but I love your content anyway
I always liked naming the 3D Cinema to imply thats the movie theyre actually watching.
And it would always be shit like "Clockwork Orange 3D"
