crazy! same thing just happened today - was making a left hand turn and instrument cluster restarted and power steering went out. i’m glad no one was riding my ass because it could have caused an accident! Thank for this video. Going to order that cable and change it and hopefully it doesn’t happen again!
Thank you for your advice, my wife had the same problem, on the same car Malibu 2013 . We change the cable and so far no more problem. Thank you again.
steering sensor. (mine did it when i was on freeway using blinker, cut out radio) get to work and parking lot and the steering was jerking (steering sensor) no one sits in my passenger seat
I feel like alot of these issues were fixed in the 2015 malibus currently we have a 2015 malibu LTZ we are at 162k miles on it we drive it alot from state to state, pretty much just stay on top of the full maintenance and it's been a all around soild car....only thing we changed out was the front and rear battery everything else is stock
It happens when I am switching lanes as well. I just had the battery replaced but don't think they put new cables on because it is still happening. I will try replacing that cable. Thank you
Thanks Soo much I had exactly what your car was doing. I brought positive cable and haven't had a problem since. Dealership didn't know what was wrong. Really appreciate this knowledge!
Yea...I went through same problem on my wifes 13 malibu...intermit steering lock....got by for awhile keeping the postive side terminal/connecter VERY clean....but that little cable.....like he said breaksdown.
Is the connection under the seat attached to the seat or the floor? Only one I see is one that attaches toward the front on the floor under the passenger seat.
Thanks for this video mate. You're a legend. It appears to happen when the wife is in the car i.e. passenger seat. So will try that a zip tie fix, and I'll replace the cable(s).
Helped me! And you are so right if you can make it so it they cant fix it. My guy was on the right track he tried just putting in a new battery, helped for a time but it came back and escalated.
It started on random day driving. My car jerked and I got a notification saying “service power steering system”. Checked the codes only code was lost communication with TCM. Checked wires and connectors and found no issues. It makes it impossible to drive, it pops up that message randomly. It happened once I totally forgot about it because it ran fine after letting it sit. It got worse doing it more frequently.. To the point I needed to get towed several times. Also when the message pops up the locks go crazy.. they lock & unlock several times, if I press the gas it jerks me.
Me too. 2014 impala. Locks would go crazy while on highway and then engine would rpm well over 3000 and I wasn't even on the accelerator. Happened for the 1st time yesterday. Got home undid the negative battery, put back on. This morning no issues. Keep y'all posted.
Thanks for the tip, will check both items you mentioned. For me it's the dash and radio lights, thankfully no steering issues. Has the problem returned since doing the battery cable?
@@webese512 you can send it out to get rebuilt or replace. I bought a used one off eBay. after you get the cluster out, find the part #...should be a sticker on the cluster, and find a replacement with that number.
@@webese512 I'll be posting a "how to repair" the Malibu cluster on my channel within the next few days. Editing the video now. It's not to hard of a repair for the intermittent power issue they have.
@@jeffescortlx did you make the cluster video? Just replace the cable and all of the connectors the whole assembly and it beeped a couple times and drove home fine after that so I'm not sure if I trust it
I have also a Malibu 2013 but mine is making a nosie like it is the power steering pump. Do you know if it is a electric power steering or something else?
Also know that this 2013 and up have a recall for the cam positioning sensors. My old 2013 2.5L kept randomly shutting off at 20mph or slower while making a turn. I'm talking about everything off. Shit was scary. Bought one, a week later bought the other. Problem fixed. Few months later found out it became a recall took my receipts in got my money back. No issues other than that. Sold the car 200k plus and it is still going.
This is only confirmed by voltage drop. Key on, engine off, turned lights, blower fan, entertainment system and take a digital multi meter from the battery post to each fuse in the fuse-distribution center, switch to DC volts, place one meter lead on battery, the other on each of the 3 smaller fuses, take note of reading. That large "ANL" type fuse to starter has to have ignition system or injectors disconnected. Just so it can't start. Get a buddy to crank until you can get a steady reading, take note. High amperage circuits like the starter, snow plow, lift gate but the voltage drop is higher. 0.400 - 01.00 volt DC is close but lower it better. Small fuses read 0.030 - 0.090 volts DC. Clean with nylon scuff pad, all including fuse and mount pad. Add dielectric grease to both sides and torque. This eliminates oxidation or moisture. Disconnect negative if using wire brush as it can spark positive to surrounding parts. A discolored cable can be tested with a "T" pin from upholstery store. Puncture cable 3-4" away and test with voltage drop. Seal the pin hole with RTV. Dielectric grease is sold in home improvement stores in auto isle and cost $6. Other wise this is guessing. A dealer scanner can print up to 5 failure records, not one like aftermarket scanners. It also allows each effected electronic module that communicates on a class 2 serial data buss to jump one to one to check each serial data ability. Without it, it can do dead but loss of power would be dead. The 2013 - 2015 share to same modules and wiring architecture. DK, ASE Master Dealer Tech.
Hey guys. Any one having any issues after replacing the positive cable? Thanks for the video. I am going to change the positive cable over the weekend. Fingers crossed, see how we go.
I get everytime a reboot when i press a under menu button and so i watched this video and ordered it to Germany and from Amazon US. I replaced the cable but it didnt solve yet… Anyone there who have other ideas?
this worked for a while but the problem persisted after a few weeks. I noticed that it happened mostly when there was someone in the passenger seat. Turns out there's a module under the seat. when someone is sitting there, and they have the seat adjusted all the way down, the seat bottom can make contact with the bulkhead connector that plugs into the module. put a zip tie around the connector halves to keep them from separating. once I did that the problem never presented itself again. keep the seat raised up a bit as well.
@@dzlfreek thanks for the quick response. I‘ll try it. I think the fuse block at the positive battery cable would be fix it. I find the right part at gmpartsgiantcom, but international shipping costs is close to the item price ^^.
