Evening Teresa that is what I did also. I love them and still wanted them in my garden space just not in the beds. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Purple Hearts and taking this journey with me
GM Diane what’s your zone here in Georgia they die completely back but will pop up in the spring and last until frost. Thank you for sharing your experience with Purple Hearts and taking this journey with me
Nice clean look. Ive never used an auger before. Great idea. I like using a low chair or stool to save my back. Great to see your husband helping. Happy Gardening. ❤
The auger was a game changer for me. I planted 500 bulbs last year and my old way would have taken a week. I have a kneeler but I was trying to beat the heat lol 😂 oh Kevin is so helpful
@@prosperityprincess963 Afternoon I do love them just didn’t like what they were doing to my other plants. I did put some in pots so I could still enjoy them but also control them. Thanks for sharing your experience and taking this journey with me
Evening yes there have been some other reason we are changing to a more natural mulch. Thanks for sharing your experience with changing up mulch and taking this journey with me
Yes i had them in my garden. And i had the same results. So i pulled all of them out and gave them to my friend. I warned her about them. Now my flower bed and flowers looks so much happier. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day
Hi Carolyn I think because I had other plants in there was my issue. I did save some and placed in a pot cause I do love them. Thanks for sharing your experience with purple hearts and your support on my journey
I've considered getting Purple Hearts many times. Thank you for the warning. I think I'll pass. I LOVE your "Kiss Me Over The Garden Fence". I need to get some. I also love your partial fences and plant to get the same thing done in my front yard.
Welcome and thank you for your support and taking this journey with me. Thank you for your kind words about my garden. I so love being blessed with this gift.
Evening Marlene I did save some to plant in pot. Gave some to friend with full disclosure lol. Thanks for sharing your experience and taking this journey with me.
I have Purple Hearts in my beds and it doesn’t do that in my garden. I even planted some in pots along with petunias and canna’s and not experiencing that issue. I have the black mulch too. You just have to water alot more often because it’s hottt here. I live nearby you in Jonesboro, GA They actually can survive drought without any water.
Hi Shawn I was just trying to figure out what was causing my soil to dry out and my other plants seem to be dry. If you look at the roots I showed for Purple Hearts which were moist but my bachelor button roots were dry as can be. I water on regular bases my garden sometimes twice a week. It just seemed weird. With you not having issues I now want to see if now with cedar mulch vs the darker mulch if that removes the issue of drying out soil quicker. Plus removal of Purple Hearts. Thank for sharing your experience.
You’re welcome. I will keep watching to see if the mulch works out for you and I will take more notice of my garden if I notice it to be drier where the mulch is.
Hi neighbor, I’m in Alabama. I love my Purple Hearts. But I too use containers. Mine lives up to a hard freeze in winter. Sometimes it makes it through winter. It is a hearty dependable plant🪴💜
@heartofdixieprepping4797 I loved them to but to keep them nice and neat very time consuming. You saw how they were taking over my day lilies and irises lol. Thanks for sharing your experience with them and for your support
@@heartofdixieprepping4797 I agree they are very dependable. I don’t mind snapping them off sometimes if they become a bit too big for the space and when they bloom they are so cute. I water my plants everyday so maybe that’s why I’m not noticing any problems. I just think as hot as it is here in Georgia twice a week is just not enough.
Afternoon Connie I am learning the hard way for managing them. I do love them so putting in pot allows me to enjoy. Thanks for sharing you experience with them and taking this journey with me
I Keep some in a large container. I’ve had mine for many years. If a piece breaks off just toss it or better yet, give it away. I love mine especially when they bloom. I have a pot of Ivy in a large container with Purple Heart. The contrast in color is beautiful. So much easier to control. Ive never had any get away from me but my son had some in a border and had to fight to keep it controlled.
I’m right there with your son the out of control of them. I too love when they bloom so I too put some in a pot on my front porch. Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the Purple Hearts and taking this journey with me
Thanks so much, my dear friend for sharing your beautiful front yard. I love the day lilies. They are just beautiful. I just put new daylilies in my front yard and I love them. Thanks so much for sharing and giving us a great chitchat and how was working for you
Evening Sandy the day lilies are forever blooming for me what about yours? I can talk gardening 🧑🌾 all day and night. Continue to enjoy your garden my friend
I had purple hearts in my garden for about five years and I dug them up! They can take over in area very quickly! I still see a little Purple Heart coming up every now and then still years later. I feel the same way about creeping Jenny! Now I’m trying to yank up all my creeping Jenny. The roots on those are deep as well! The humidity early in the morning is horrible here in South Carolina too! I’m gonna try to get out at 6:30 AM tomorrow🙌🏼 your garden is looking fabulous!!🌸🌹🌺
Evening Joellen, I keep hearing that even digging them up some find their way back. Now I do like them and saved some and put in a pot. Now I love creeping Jenny!! The humidity is what makes it sometimes unbearable. That’s why I get up early to beat the heat. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Purple Heart
Evening Sonie so glad you enjoyed the garden video. I’m finding out that those pretty little flowers even if I dug them up there would still be some shoots every now and then come back. Thank you for your support and taking this journey with me
Evening Karen for your zone they will grow but I believe as an annual. The flesh of the Purple Heart is like a succulent. I know my one garden friend plants in pot and then bring it in. Here in Georgia mine die back when it get cold but are perennials here and come back
Thanks for the heads up. I had just put some cuttings in a flower bed. Wouldn't want all the water to go to them and I don't need it spreading much. 🌻🌿
Afternoon, another comment above said they don’t have any issues with Purple Hearts drying out their bed. I did put some in a pot and will see how the beds do without them in there. Much success for yours and keep me posted. Thanks for your support and taking this journey with me
Evening Keisha I never knew they could do that, oh my. Happy gardening and thanks for sharing your experience with the Purple Hearts and taking this journey with me
You did a lot of work! Looks great! Your bachelor's buttons look like what we know as scabiosa (aka pincushion flower) here in California. You've got lovely gardens and yards.
Hi Susan I grew pincushion from seed last season but they are annuals here. The bachelor buttons look similar but these are perennials and remain green and bloom all 4 season. Thanks for checking out video and your support.
I’ve never had for parts in my bed, but after hearing you talk, I probably would never put them in. I already have two or three plants. I wish I’d never planted in my garden.
Evening Sandy I don’t want to discourage you from planting them. One of the comments below is just about 30minutes from me and she said hers are doing well. With gardening there are so many variables that impact our gardens. Now I do like them but I’m choosing to contain them in a pot. Happy gardening 🧑🌾
Hi Susan I water first also and then add mulch to retain the moisture. It was just weird the Purple Heart roots were nice and moist but bachelor buttons dry as a bone.
Afternoon they are pretty but they taken over my irises and daylilies. Plus I would have to constantly snap them back. Thank you though for sharing your thoughts on the Purple Hearts and taking this journey with me

Black mulch has too much chemical dye in it. No good.
No those are bachelor buttons perennial, pin cushions are annuals I grew this last year from seed and they didn’t come back this year.
